[SPOILER GALORE] Skipping Wake of the Watcher + Homebrew Plot Changes Feedback

Carrion Crown

So my party, right now in the middle of Broken Moon, has grew to 7 PC total.

I've taken efforts to maintain difficulty - each Werewolf clan has an Oathkeeper Pack which is a group of elite fighters who made for higher CR fights; Mathus Mordrinacht demanded 1-on-1 combat against one of the PCs; werewolves in general now use Chain Shirts; etc.

But I recently thought to myself -- "hey, what if I just skipped Wake of the Watcher? That would keep CR way up."

I'm doing a little transition sidequest between the Shudderwood and Caliphas as the party moves through the mountains, I can help establish most of the missing things from Wake of the Watcher there.

What do you think I should add to this little sidequest to make it a good replacement for Wake of the Watcher, in terms of plot or interesting mechanics?
How much should I compensate in terms of items?
Any plot things I shouldn't miss adding?

Homebrew Campaign Elements for those interested

Adivion Adrissant is Kendra Lorrimor's bumbling fiancee and hasn't shown his true colors yet - he is in the middle of a power struggle with Auren Vrood for control of the Whispering Way.

Lucean Galdana's father was the previous leader of the Whispering Way and has recently passed away. Auren Vrood was his protege and commands respect from a large contigent of cultists. Adivion wants to eliminate Auren and his inner circle while also maintaining control of his assets, so he has been playing the PCs very subtly in eliminating Vrood without messing up the plans to gather the Carrion Crown.

Marrowgarth controls Gallowspire and hasn't made those resources available to Auren nor Adivion until either can complete the Carrion Crown.

The Carrion Crown is made with different materials. It needs to have some part of the essence of those who struck down the Whispering Tyrant. Warden Hawke was the last descendant of the Paladin who blessed the weaponry of those who defeated him. The then Packlord was the one who ripped the Whispering Tyrant's phylactery - and her essence lives on in the packlord's heart. Luvick Sieverage's ashes are also a prime component.

Instead of the Raven's Head, since several of my party members decided to be Orcs, I was thinking I would place some mythical Orc weapon in the Hungering Mountains, deep inside a temple, as a short dungeon delve sidequest.
