Silver Crusade 1/5

I have discovered the above item in the Jade Regent AP. It has two powerful effects. My question pertains to the restrictive clause on the second effect.

If the character drinking the elixir is a scion of one of Minkai’s five imperial families (including anyone invested as such by an Imperial Seal) and is reduced to fewer than 0 hit points during the duration of the elixir’s effects, the elixir also immediately cures the drinker of 5d8+10 points of damage, which can bring a recently slain character back to life. This healing immediately ends any of the elixir’s other effects.

How does a PFS character meet the requirement for being a scion of one of Minkai's five imperial families? Is it hand waved, the same as RP requirements for prestige classes?

That's pretty iffy. I'd probably say you wouldn't be eligible for the breath of life effect, but you should probably expect table variation on this issue. I would talk to GM's in your area to get their take on it.

If you play through The Brinewall Legacy (the first volume of Jade Regent) you get a choice on the chronicle of two boons. One of those is to become a Scion of one of Minkai's five imperial families.

I would expect that that is the *only* PFS legal way to qualify as such.

I wonder if the feat 'Noble Scion' might do it: Noble Scion

The problem is that storywise, other than specific named NPCs, all other members of the families are dead. That is why the country is being ruled by the Jade Regent.

There is a reason why the PCs can come to be considered Scions (which the boon on that chronicle mirrors) but I'm trying to be as nonspecific as possible to avoid spoilers.

I concur, if they had that boon on their chronicle then I would have no issue with a PC getting the breath of life effect.

So it seems that this particular magic item is intended to reward PCs who take a particular course in Jade Regent. That's cool. I like unique items with history.

I haven't played Jade Regent, I was researching elixirs, so I am grateful for your keeping your advice spoiler free pH.
