'You have made too many requests for the same page too quickly'

Website Feedback

I keep getting this error: 'You have made too many requests for the same page too quickly'
I only get it from Chrome. Only on one computer. On every page.
If I try it from Chrome on a different computer is all okay.
If I try it from Firefox on the same computer is all okay.
Interestingly if I try and Ping www.paizo.com I get a Request Timed Out.
I tried rebooting - same problem.
I tried different networks (same computer, chrome) and got the same problem.

I'm guessing this is not the website so much as the way I am interacting with it, but any advice would be very welcome.

I was getting that earlier as well. Only on my desktop, and only through Chrome. Phone was fine with the mobile version of Chrome.

I'm having the same issue... I've cleared my cache, I've cleared my offline storage, but still can only access Paizo through a different browser than I normally use... normally use firefox, currently on IE.

What version of chrome? Also, what was the url that it got stuck on? Do you have any extensions? We shored up some security on the site yesterday and will be doing more later in the week. We removed some older cyphers, switched to an SHA-2 certificate, enabled HSTS for secure.paizo.com and a few other small things, that mostly help the client keep their communications more secure.

As to advice, make sure your web browser is up to date with it's most recent version, check to make sure any extensions you have are extensions that you trust and maybe try without any extensions or add-ons. The way the extensions might work on secure sites might be interfering with one of the above changes or may not be supported by one of the above changes. Logout from paizo.com and then clear the cache and restart the browser. Then login normally and check out what you were looking at. Make sure you get me the URL you were having that problem with, as it might be unrelated to the above and might just be an error for the cookie and the site that can be fixed.

HSTS is the most likely culprit for this as it tells the browser to only use https when communicating with the domain, in this case secure.paizo.com, but what I'm seeing(as this happened to my wife just now) is that it's trying to redirect to https://paizo.com which won't work. I will probably turn HSTS off when I get to work this morning. We'll need to see what we want to do to address that.

My bookmark is for http://paizo.com/

When I look at the url above the error message when I try to go to it, or click on any of the links via google to the forums, I see the url my browser is at is:

https://paizo.com/

I CAN access Paizo through a different browser, but would prefer to stick with mozilla firefox rather than having to change browsers any time I want to see anything at Paizo.

Yeah, I use firefox as well. It's my go-to browser. I'll see what I can find and get back to the thread. Something is obviously misconfigured somewhere.

I was having the same problem - on 2 different computers - at 2 different IP Address locations (a laptop and a desktop miles from each other). On both Chrome and Firefox browsers.

Also I texted a friend of mine (who I game with) and she's out on the west coast. She received the same "Too Many Requests ..." banner using her Chrome browser.

As for me, I couldn't access *any* of Paizo's URL pages for a few hours. For some unknown reason, I'm back on (via Firefox).

Yeah, we're just going to keep hsts off for the time being. I'm going to approach our devs about going full https on the site sometime in the near future, but for now we're going to keep it off. It likely had a very liberal view of what subdomain meant.

Thank you, SunshineGrrrl. If I run into any more problems of this sort, I'll post back here as soon as I can get access.

You can also email me at webmaster and we'll take a look. ^_^

This stuff happens to me occasionally. Dotting for future reference. ^_^

Working again on Firefox, thank you!

Working again for me - thanks :)

Out of curiosity, did anyone try typing 8th any of the problem URLs manually? When I have gotten this error (which I have to say doesn't properly describe the problem) in the past, it has at least most of the time been due to a malformed URL, and I could work around the error by manually editing the URL. Not sure whether HSTS would interact with certain browser conditions to make a malformed URL.

Basically it does, if it's not working right which in this case it wasn't.
