Question about Prestige, Fame, and the Pathfinder Society Field Guide

The Exchange

Okay, I'm going to make this question as clear as I can.

Can a character created in season 6, who has earned 20 fame and belongs to the Liberty's Edge faction, purchase the Eagle Knight prestige award from the Andoran faction in the Pathfinder Society Field Guide? Then later take the Grey Corsair prestige award despite the award's text?

Pathfinder Society Field Guide wrote:

Gray Corsair (Fame 40, 2 PP, Eagle Knight): You serve aboard an Andoren naval vessel, and gain a +3 bonus on Profession (sailor) checks made while you serve on any Andoren vessels.

The reason I ask is because season 6 factions are vastly different from the ones in the Pathfinder Society Field Guide, and the Pathfinder Society Guide to Organized Play had this to say on the matter.

So does that mean season 6 characters cannot benefit from faction prestige awards in the Pathfinder society field guide NOW? Note: I am not talking about a character who has already earned said awards in the past, but rather, a new character coming into the campaign now.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You're all clear to sail.

Liberty’s Edge faction PCs qualify for Andoran faction
vanities and mission boons available in past seasons.
Likewise, Dark Archive faction PCs qualify for Cheliax
rewards, Scarab Sages as Osirion, The Exchange as
Qadira, and Sovereign Court as Taldor. Without a boon
that states otherwise, a PC cannot earn Sczarni vanities
or boons.

Thanks, some of the language confused me. What with "future purchase" and "past seasons" its alot of legalese that sort of went over my head and could have been a bit more explicitly stated for a dumb-bum. :)

Its not you. The guide is a little dense and legalistic (they're working on that for next season though.) Partially because its grown organically over the years, and partially because you have to keep the gamers from misreading things...

With the Core campaign it would be helpful if the vanities were moved into the guide to organized play so they were available to core characters and could be updated as factions come and go in the future.

You also made one common mistake there.

The factions haven't been retired, they have been changed. Faction retirement only happens when a faction completely vanishes, forcing characters to immeidately choose a new faction. This happened to the Lantern Lodge and the Shadow Lodge, and faction retirement is usually featured in a scenario explicitly built around that event (and including a special boon for characters of the retiring faction).
