Add to that in this universe, most of Clark's rogues gallery doesn't exist. So he's famous for stopping Toyman, Lex Luthor, Red-K Metallo (but not the Green-K Metallo) and rescuing kittens from trees.

Well, he's been to War World also. And faced Zod.

He's also worked with Batman at least once.

Yep! This is one of my favorite parts of the show... it is not a Superman origin, he's had a TON of adventures we haven't heard about.

As for Kara being Superman, eh...it's not inconceivable. Just unlikely.

In the comics, Supergirl was supposed to be stronger than Superman because she was older, originally.

Then he was stronger because he'd had 20-something years worth of yellow sunlight absorbtion, and she'd only had a few years.

Even in this episode, Mon-El 'might be able to stay longer because he's absorbed more yellow sunlight,' but then Rhea is arbitrarily as strong as Supergirl despite having only been on Earth for a week or so. So, whatever!

Same with the Man of Steel movie. Clark has thirty-something years to acclimate to Earth and his super-powers, and Zod takes less than 24 hours to get all caught up.

It seems like whenever some writer attempts to create some sort of narrative rules for this sort of thing, it gets contradicted, sometimes in the same storyline.

Honestly that is the EXACT reason that I hate the 'solar battery' concept. It too limiting for storytelling.

Under a Yellow sun = push planets around.

Under a Red Sun = normal man.

Trying to scientifically explain things just makes it dumber. Superman had 30+ years of yellow sun building up... Zod has nothing... How is this a fight? Supergirl will always be about 20 years behind him in power level. Then of course there are the new Flares and fighting Doomsday that drains him down.. where does that set the bar??

Sometimes Fantasy just needs to be Fantasy. Kryptonian on Earth = Superpowers.

In any case, I agree with Mark that it might be a VERSION of the Eradicator that's come to Krypton...but then again that would make it the THIRD Alien invader storyline we've had. So...I dunno.

But regardless of the writing, I do agree the storytelling for this episode was kind up/down in places.

But compared to Flash? Yeah I'll take it.

I hope it's Krypto.

Kara, not Clark: Streaky. Noone's gonna touch Comet though.

Touch Comet! You know you want to! (Or, he wants you to, anyway.)

You are an evil person. I just want you to know that. ;)

The Silver Age was in to some freaky stuff, man.

Eh. They just like having animals with super powers.

I don't think it's either Streaky or Comet. Mostly because the latter is too big for a pod that size, and the former could have come with Kara in her own pod.

I think.

I'm still kind of in favor of Eradicator but not by a wide margin.

Floriana Lima is 'pursuing other projects' and will not be a regular next season.

My thing is she comes across as if Kara has a delicate ego and everyone is always trying to boost her ego. I have the Justice league cartoon super girl in my mind and she had more of a much more self-confident attitude. Kind of like Ronda Rousey before she got on the loseing streak.

That sucks. Poor Alex

Mark,

Well it's not great but not being a regular doesn't mean she won't be around. I do agree though, she and Alex were the reason I could stomach the other romances.

Vid,

Yeah I get that. Mostly I guess I didn't mind it in the sense Cat Grant get her pumped. I still think Superman versus Supergirl isn't what should have sold people. But eh.

Might be semi LDR if she gets re-assigned to Metropolis.

Plus I feel any fight that would make superman lose would require the destruction of a city, or close to it anyways. Even with both of them working not to bring down the town Impacts required to hurt them would be pretty destructive.

Vid,

Yeah it wasn't like that knock down fight you saw with Darkseid and Superman at the series end of Superman.

Mark,

I don't see that happening.

Or the end of JLU.

Certainly better than their 'fight' at the end of Smallville.

Greenie and Hama,

I meant JLU. *swears to himself*

ANYWAYS! News that matters, it's been confirmed that our newest villain is...REIGN played by Odette Annabelle! So...yeah.

I guess alien invader it is!

Not gonna lie...

Spoiler:
But constantly repeating the same storyline is why I dropped the Burnside era of Batgirl off my comic-shop subscription list. Since they changed off of Gail Simone, the entire storyline has been one, two, three strikes worth of "let's continue to mess with Barbara's mind, give her a villain that essentially mentally rapes her and forces her to relive her Joker trauma over and over, and constantly make her second-guess and doubt her own intelligence and ability."

That's not a storyline that needs to happen more than once. Barbara's the literal definition of "been there, done that, never going to succumb to it" when it comes to such traumas.

I stopped watching Smallville because of the Kryptonite-Induced-Villain-Of-The-Week symptom, and I'd hate to have to lose my love for Supergirl because of a similar wash of plot rehashing. :(

Jem,

Yeah it's a little annoying...but maybe we'll get more Superman showing up whenever possible. That and more Cat Grant. But I doubt the latter.

So, the next season of Supergirl just showed up on Netflix. Is it worth going through?

If nothing else the first two episodes were amazing. The rest you have to decide for yourself.

Supes and Darkseid had a big brawl in the last ep of S:TAS as well, I thought that was what you were referring to.

I kind of assume though that this version of Reign will have grown up on Earth, so the dynamics will be a bit different. Probably no invading alien army to back her, for instance.

MMC,

Hard to know since we dunno if Reign got her pod knocked off course and ended up in DC version of Planet Hulk.

Mark,

Yes. That.

Greenie,

No I didn't much like that one as I did the end for JLU.

NPC,

I'm with Phantom, watch the first two episodes and then decide if you want to invest in it.

Sovereign Court

It's kind of annoying. Same old same old. And there is a plethora of good Supergirl villains to pick from.

Hama,

You mean like Silver Banshee? Or Brainaic? Or even a revised Cyborg Superman? Mongol?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'd love to have Mongul show up and challenge Supergirl once he got word that she beat Superman. It's kind of his thing, having to beat the strongest.

Season 4 maybe?

Sovereign Court

Lobo could appear. Plus all of the superman villains since they aren't gonna make a superman show.

They would be more likely to use Mongal than Mongul.

Why? Because Mongul is a guy? Nah. I think they could get away with it just because he's an Alien Warlord and has War World.

Yeah but outside of the ones they've already used and aliens, some of Supergirl's villains are pretty.....weird. Especially from the Earth Angel run

Id be down for Lobo. Just makes a nusance of himself for like 6 episodes saves the day once while also trashing half the city. Everyone trying to figure out what to do with him. Yes good times.

Lobo would be great. His over the top D-bag chauvinism would make her absolutely nuts. You'd literally be cheering for her to kick his ass.

Exactly. and there is nothing more entertaining then watching Lobo get beat up.

I felt we got some of that in the crossover with Heat Wave. "Hey Skirt... Call me." It was awesome :)

It's probably not popular opinion, but I miss Max Lord. He may have been a 'luthor clone'... but at least he wasn't an actual LUTHOR. Or Luthor's MOM... He felt a bit more like HERS than just a copy/paste from superman's rogue gallery.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

Except they left out the fact that he has the single most insidious power of any Superman villian.

Mark Thomas 66 wrote:

I have a feeling it was building up for a 'next season reveal'. He always seemed to have more going on then what he was showing.

Also, despite that one story where he was killed... I never really think of Max as a 'Superman Villain'. I think of him as more JLA or more accurately 'DCU' enemy. He didn't have ONE particular enemy. But either way, I hadn't read enough of him to really mind the tweaks they did to the character.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

And I like to think of him as this guy who funded the "I can't believe its not the Justice League" Justice League, offered them advice, and genuinely cared about them.

Still, I miss him on the show. Given how he, DEO co-director Lane, and the Guardian's clone James Harper all disappeared and were never mentioned again, I blame Flashpoint. [censored] it Barry!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Barry screwing things up even for other universes. Now we need the flash episode where The doctor appears with a rolled up news paper hitting Barry on the head BAD SPEEDSTER BAD!

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

Yeah true. I think I consider him a Superman villain because it's using his power on Superman that revealed him.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

Powergirl!!! That's who we need next season. Or maybe at the end of the season to shake things up.

Mark Thomas 66 wrote:

Would she have larger uhmm and have the window.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

I'd think they'd give the window a nod by having her take a grenade to the chest or something. It'll be there for one scene, sort of a "there you go fanboys, happy now?"

Then she'll be in something else for the rest of the time.

As long as they never ever use the stupid "I never felt worthy of the S so I left it empty" nonsense explanation/copout.

The real reason is it distracts the enemy to giver her the edge.
