(Unchained) Variant multiclassing and AC

Rules Questions

Hi,
Can animal companions sacrifice feats to get variant multiclassing? I find this idea really cool and flavorful to grab sorcerer, barbarian or other class as specialization for AC, but I'm not sure if it is legal.
Obviously INT score of AC is going to be increased.
If not is there any work around to it?

Grand Lodge

No.

Since ACs do not have a class they cannot muticlass.

Probably not.

As long as your GM is ok with it, I don't see any reason why the feats an Animal Companion gives up are lesser than a PC's are, so the exchange should still be balanced. I'd certainly limit which ones, so they made sense for an animal.

I'd be pretty cool having an oracle animal companion if your the type of druid who worship's a god, and animal companion is that gods favoured animal.

Honestly, this question seems like part of a deeper issue that your GM will need to decide - can a creature with "monster" HD use their feats to gain VMC? If he decides the general issue it will answer itself for animal companions.

It's an interesting question and would certainly open up a lot of possibilities for customizing monsters without adding HD/class levels.
