In Pathfinder, do creatures with DR bypass that same DR?

Rules Questions

My character was trying to escape from a monster, & provoked an AoO while moving towards the exit, so he cast Windy Escape to reduce the damage, thanks to gaining its DR 10/magic effect.

However the GM thought that since the attacking creature had Damage Reduction magic itself, it would be able to bypass the DR/magic from Windy Escape. We couldn't find it in the books or PRD, although he said he may have been remembering it from 3.0 days.

I did find a thread that seemed to say 'no' http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2nth7?Overcoming-DR-with-natural-weapons#1 but wanted to be sure.

Only creatures with DR's based on alignment.

Quote:
A creature with an alignment subtype (chaotic, evil, good, or lawful) can overcome this type of damage reduction with its natural weapons and weapons it wields as if the weapons or natural weapons had an alignment (or alignments) that matched the subtype(s) of the creature.

That means demons, as an example, can overcome the alignment of another demon in most cases, but could not overcome the alignment of an angel in most cases.

Have I mentioned lately how absolutely useless the PRD search functions are? Just so you appreciate the extra effort I went to to find the "official" version.

Some monsters are vulnerable to magic weapons. Any weapon with at least a +1 magical enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls overcomes the damage reduction of these monsters. Such creatures' natural weapons (but not their attacks with weapons) are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

Bolding mine. How wraithstrike pulled out the alignment part and missed the magic part I don't know though.

I read it, but I also misread it. <facepalm>

edit: Sometimes I have had better luck using google than using the site's search function on the site.

Doesn't that mean the opposite? I.e. An angel with the good subtype can bypass the DR X/good that many demons and devils have?

You are right.

Just to verify, this just applies to DR/Magic (and Alignment), right? I don't think the natural weapons of a creature with DR/Silver overcomes DR/Silver, for instance, unless I've missed something.

Scarab Sages

Actually it only applies to magic : you get the bypass if you have DR Magic.

You get alignment bypass if you have the alignment subtype, not because you have that alignment DR. (So if you have DR alignment for your eidolon, it doesn't get that alignment bypass since it doesn't have an alignment subtype, at least I don't think they do)

Sorry if that's what you meant, just wanted to be clear.

Note that many creatures can also take the Eldritch Claws feat, which lets them count their natural weapons as magic and silver for overcoming damage reduction.
