build for quarterstaff user?

Advice

so I thought of the novel/failure of an idea of magus/warpriest/mystic theurge who worshiped Nethys so now I was wondering how to build a warpriest of nethys who focuses on combat with a quarterstaff.

Dark Archive

Pretty straightforward. It depends if you want to use the Quarterstaff 2H or for TWF, though.

Yeah TWF is kinda mandatory, but Sacred Weapon does sweeten the deal. Also, Quarterstaff Master allows you to wield it one-handed. Shielded Staff Style and Shielded Staff Master allow you to attach a buckler and benefit from it. Finally, a few ranks in Use Magic Device in order to use magic staves that might not be usable by divine spellcasters.

Wait, are you asking for a straight Warpriest or the Magus/Warpriest/MT (since Staff Magus lets you wield a quarterstaff one-handed)? Because the disadvantages of the latter are that you lose out on Arcana, extra Fervor, bonus feats, armor heavier than light, Arcane Pool points, enhancements to a Black Blade if you go Bladebound or Weapon Training if you go Arsenal Chaplain...but go for it if you want! If you build smart you probably can pull it off.

If it's just straight Warpriest, then honestly going 2H isn't the horror it might seem at first. You'll give up 3.5 average damage and some crit range compared to a greatsword, for instance, but honestly 2H builds derive most of their damage from static bonuses anyway so it's not the end of the world to go with a 2H build. Furthermore, you will have to spend money to enhance each side of a double weapon which can get expensive.

I think Shillelagh would work with sacred weapon dice if you can figure out a way to cast it.

Nope, Sacred Weapon damage is based on the Warpriest's size, the weapon's size (which Shillagh virtually modifies) is irrelevant.

I have the feeling JiCi responsted to a post that was deleted afterwards...

I would actually probably do it the other way around - a Magus focusing on the Quarterstaff (obviously Staff Magus archetype), who is religiously associated with Nethys. I recall reading somewhere that many of Nethys's priests are actually wizards, which by analogy suggests many of his warpriests might actually be magi...

That's a good point! Derklord, I think he was replying to the second post which poised the issue as a 2H vs TWF one. But either way many of the old carryover prestige classes do not play nicely with the base and hybrid classes. Although I'd be interested for someone to compare the PF warpriest with the cleric+warpriest prestige class from 3E...

Edit: yeah, not worth it. I feel like I remember the Archmage being one of the only "core" prestige classes that was actually worth it (I think there were one or two psionic ones that were also good).

In that case this thread is a ridiculous necro, with only two posts from 2015, and an OP that never responded.

Seriously, am I the only one on these boards who looks at post dates?

I check them, and there are people who have aliases purely for pointing out thread necromancy, but apparently there are people who do a search for something and then post replies (helpful or otherwise) without giving dates a thought.

Hahahahaha you know I often notice these things, but clearly today I was off my game.
