When Skull & Shackles first came out, we were able to skip the base set on our subscription and get the promos from the add-on decks. However, it involved a manual process with customer service, and there was some discussion of having a cleaner, possibly automated process for doing the same with Wrath of the Righteous.
Has anyone seen this option yet? Any news from Paizo about being able to do this again? This saved me quite a bit on shipping the last time, which quickly went to class decks. I would hope to be able to avoid those burdensome costs again if possible.

They've said you'll be able to do at least the same thing again (cancel your sub and start again with the Character Add-on Deck).
Nothing has been said about an improved process. People have been canceling in the customer service thread with the intention of resubscribing like last time.

Out of curiosity, why would anyone want to cancel out of the base set and then resub for the character deck onwards? Is it because of shipping?
Yup, shipping. A 110 card deck is much cheaper, especially for international customers. Then you can pick the base set up locally or from an online store that lowers prices more aggressively and still get all the promos for subscribing.

Also, I like to buy as much of my gaming stuff as I can from my local game store to support it. However, I also really want to make sure I get all (or at least most) of the promo cards and my local store hasn't been able to get a single one of the retail promos from his distributor during the entire run of the Skull & Shackles set. So I subscribe with just the Character Add-On and Adventure decks to make sure I get the promos, then buy my Base Sets, Class Decks, and figures from my local store to help support the owner.

As others have mentioned the biggest reason is shipping costs, plus the pre-order discount offered from our game shop (or your online retailer) add up to a significant amount.
From Paizo's perspective it also make sense to allow this, as the alternative is that people drop their sub altogether. They may intend to re-sub, but sometimes that does not happen. It's a lot easier to let a sub continue than it is to restart it, psychologically speaking. Ask any MMO subscriber that has let their sub linger for months without ever even playing. :)

Has Paizo ever thought of making two separate subscription for PACG ? One for the Base set and one for the Decks, that way many people won't have to cancel for the base set and then resubscribe. Not sure what kind of volume there is for these cancellations.
Yes, it has come up as an idea, but there are some things that prevent it from being a viable option.

Enough that we devote a fair amount of time to trying to map out a longterm working solution for customers, but not enough that handling these cancellation requests in a timely manner is out of the question for CS.

Hmmmmm. I guess because I look at the break I get on the subscription prices and the promo cards, plus all the other stuff that Paizo does right, and I'm like "$20 bucks to ship a big-assed box of fun to my house?"
Sure. I'll pay for that.
For international customers it can be quite expensive for shipping. For Skull and Shackles it looks like for a lot of the international customers that did have it shipped from us, shipping was between $30 - $60 USD. Some choose to ship anyway due to lack of local availability, or because local prices are even higher than shipping, but for many of our international customers, shipping on the base set is a deal breaker.

Out of curiosity, couldn't the base sets just be pegged as a PACG product without being part of the sub? That way the discount applies like it does on other non-sub PACG products? I suppose that would screw up people wanting to start a sub for the first time on a new core set though.

How about open up a PAIZO warehouse in Europe, eg. Germany???
In this way, you could grow your company to a great extent.
European customers will save on shipping costs and more new customers will be acquired hereby. Just a warehouse with shipping service. Debelopment & Customer service will be still handled thru Redmond HQ.
What do you think?

Okay, I get that, but to be honest, It's the nature of international trade. Mcfly gets relatively cheap awesome beer and sausages, but has to pay a bit more for an awesome U.S. game. I get charged quite a bit extra here in the U.S. when I buy delicious imported German beer and sausages, but PACG is a bit cheaper for me.
And the replay value of imported German beer and sausages is decidedly low compared to PACG.
Trust me.

Well, here is a picture of the local market in Nuremberg/Germany:
Tell me what you want, I will pack it in a parcel and you will ship me 4 promo cards of each released PACG promo card from WotR.
Deal?

4 items. Expected to ship early May 2015.
2 packages. Standard Postal Delivery and USPS Priority Mail. Estimated Shipping & Handling: $61.71Pathfinder Adventure Card Game—Wrath of the Righteous Base Set
Pathfinder Adventure Card Game—Wrath of the Righteous Character Add-On Deck
This shipping cost roughly doubles the bucks I have to spend on base game + char add-on. This doen't include Import Taxes / VAT. Not to mention that the exchange rate EUR - USD developed quite negativ for europeans making this whole stuff even more expensive.

It's not just the taxes. Say you order €25 worth of books. You'll have to pay 6% import tax or €1.50 and an extra €13 for handling and administration. So yeah, sometimes it is better to buy stuff in large quantities.

Ok—testing complete. If you would like to avoid having the Base Set as part of your subscription, but want the Character Add-On Deck and all of the promos, here's what you need to do:
• Contact customer.service@paizo.com (or post in the Customer Service forum and ask to have your sub canceled.
• Once you have confirmation that your sub has been canceled, go to the PACG subscription page and start a new subscription, choosing the Wrath of the Righteous Character Add-On Deck as your starting volume.
(I'm hopeful that by the time we release the next set, we will have an easy way to just remove the Base Set from your subscription.)
