The Night before Optionsmas

by Ambrus Valsin

'Twas the night before Optionsmas, when all through the lodge,
Not a gamer was stirring, not even to dodge.
The game books were stacked by the dice bag with care,
In hopes that St. Compton soon would be there;
The characters were nestled with chronicles aligned,
While visions of new options danced in their minds.

And Zarta in her leather, and I in my cap,
Had just removed the chains for a long winter's nap---
When out where we muster there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my rack to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew with a spell,
Using a cantrip to detect just what had befell.
A light spell illumined the region outside,
So developers and designers could no longer hide.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
A blue-shirted man, with writers quite near.
With a sardonic grin 'neath glasses and long hair,
I knew that St. Compton had surely appeared!

More rapid than quicklings his writers they came,
and he whistled, and shouted, and call'd them by name:
"Now! Thursty, now! Hoskins, now! Mona and Frasier,
"On Wilhem, on! Hitchcock, on! Baird and Zayas-Palmer!
"To the top of the page, to the top of the wall!
"Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As optons from Core, all forgotten and panned,
Will fly to the top when the new things are banned,
So up to the lodge-top the writers they flew,
With their pens full of powers -- and St. Compton too:
And then with the ringing of the spell of Alarm,
I hear also scribbling of long writer arms.

As I drew in my head, and was turning to see,
St. Compton dimension-doored right in front of me!
A bundle he held of new options (rules-compliant),
And he look'd like a pesh dealer hooking a client.

His eyes-- how they twinkled! His brows arched like Shaine's.
The curve of his mouth spoke of mischeif made plain.
The stump of a pencil he held tight in his teeth,
And the shavings they encircled his head like a wreath.

He was thin and severe, his mind like an elf's,
And I paused as I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but many he developed,
As in feats and in magic were characters enveloped.
And finally flashing me a sardonic grin,
He teleported out just as he recently came in.

He gathered his writers, giving them a sign,
And away they all flew, like a dragon or nine.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight--
"Happy Optionmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Rudolph the red nosed psyco
Had a very shiny axe
and if it ever critted
You could even say it hacks

All of the other finders
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor rudolph
do investigation mini games

Then one season ill conceived
skills made no headway
Rudolph with your axe so bright,
Won't you hack tech doors tonight?

Then how the finders loved him
As they looted with a squee
Rudolph the red nose psyco
You'll go down in history.

Gods rest ye merry Pathfinders
Let nothing you dismay
Remember good lord Aroden
Ascended on this Day
To save us all from Rovagug
By locking him away
Bringing Tidings of Comfort and Joy

Tidings of Comfort and Joy

Inspired by Lord Aroden
Ascended Iomedae
Norgorber snuck into godhood
To Aroden's dismay
While taking on a drunken dare
Cayden Cailean found a way
Bringing tidings of bravery and ale
Bravery and ale

I saw Zarta kissing Drandle Dreng
In the lee of Skyreach just last night.
She didn't see me creep
'Round the lodge to have a peep;
She thought that I was tucked
Away in chains for her to keep.

Then, I saw Zarta tickle Drandle Dreng
Underneath his beard so damp with wine;
Oh, what a laugh it would have been
If Ambrus had only seen
Zarta kissing Drandle Dreng that time.

I'm imagining John Compton sitting in a big chair at PaizoCon and having all the players sitting on the floor as the story is being read.

How about we change our Christmas wish here?

I think it might be appropriate to wish John, Tonya and Linda a well-earned holiday, with the hope that the new year finds them well-rested enough to tackle Additional Resources.

I too want the new goodies, but I'm willing to wait. Everything slows down gaming wise over the holiday season.

Hmm

I agree an wish that the entire PFS team, takes a real holiday and does nothing PFS related at all^^

♫ Longshanks sing
Are you listening?
Here gobs hide
Where snow’s glistening
A beautiful site
For an ambush tonight
Stalking in our goblin plunderland

Gone away is the blue bird
‘Cause we cooked him as a stew bird
We sings our rude songs
As we go along
Stalking in our goblin plunderland

In the meadow we can gut the postman
Or take him to the river and help him drown
He’ll say: Are you crazy?
We’ll say: Ya, man
Just wait to see the job
We’ll do on your town

Later on, we’ll conspire
As we set Sandpoint on fire
And face unafraid
The carnage we made
Stalking in our goblin plunderland ♫

It was Christmas time at the Brockleys,
And the gaming table was busy
Goblins were raiding the village
And the players were all in a tizzy
The ZonZon doll had gone missing
The prisms and crystals were smashed
With goblins filling the temple
Even Shelyn would say it was trashed
Ian Hamly was channelling Kyra
And begging them all to be still
But Jack was down to be Valros
His warcry was “Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill!”
Macca rolled a d20
Saying, “Sonny, you just had to ask”
But the gods of dice were not with him
They seldom are for poor Harsk
The axes and swords went a whirling
The goblin songs rang out clear
Forget your tinsel and turkey
This is OUR kind of good cheer
By the time the first round had ended
Brock was needing a drink
The players were badly out numbered
And beer always helped him to think
Alan had Ezren run over
With hands burning bright as a flame
The goblins thought this was pretty
And added some flare to the game
Russ told him to keep them distracted
While Merisel sneaked round the back
And while they stood ‘thralled by the light show
She got in a quick sneak attack
“I’ve got it ” yelled Brock, glass now empty
“We hit them, then hit them some more,
Kyra can keep us from falling,
just stand back there and keep score”
Our heroes went in weapons blazing
And the goblins fell thick and fast
The total were soon in the hundreds
With Harsk inevitably last
The Crystalhue party was rescued
The Shelynites shared their good cheer
Happy Holidays to all Pathfinders
And good wishes for the new year.
