ways to gain a 1st level spell

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Are there some ways to gain a first level spell without being a caster?

Sovereign Court

With the recent FAQ, no.

There's plenty of ways, but you'll have to be much more specific if you want better advice.

Some of the ways:

-Rogue talent: major magic

-Some racial spell-like abilities

-Being a 'semi-caster' like an alchemist or an investigator

-Having use magic device as a skill and buying a wand or scroll

-Buying an item that allows the use of a first level spell.

What do you need the spell for? If it's to fulfill a pre-req, you can't do that anymore.

So I'm wanting to gain a "flexible" lv1 spell. Meaning I want options, like the Rogue talent. I am aware that it wont make me a caster for stuff, but that's not what I'm after. But like a way to pick up magic missle, or grease or whatever. And extracts are out, but if I can get an extract on another class then it's an option too.

i dont know of any way to get magic missile but i dont know most of pathfinders character options i know there was a feat in 3.5 though

but as far as abilitys go magic missile is always a good choice

This is very, VERY expensive, but...

A Counterfeit Mage Rogue uses Wands to cast spells. At 4th level, he gains Signature Wand (which can be changed daily), that lets him draw his Signature Wand as a Free Action & use it without making a check.

On top of that, all characters are capable of wearing:

2 Gloves of Storing
2 Vanishing Sheaths

The total cost for the Gloves and Sheaths are 30,000gp, but combined with Counterfeit Mage, the Rogue can bring forth Wands at either Free or Swift Actions, and apply his Dexterity to activate them.

Rogue talent major magic and the feat Bookish Rogue.

Scarab Sages

There's also the option of "be a Gnome," of course - keep in mind that they have some of the best alternate racial traits of any race, including substitutes for the Gnomish Magic ability like Pyromaniac (giving you produce flame), Fell Magic (giving you chill touch), and Magical Linguist (giving you comprehend languages). Admittedly, it is only so "flexible."
