I'm not going to presume to suggest rules for PFU, but might I suggest a course?

Role Playing in PFO:

101: Introduction to the River Kingdoms.

102: Introduction to RP in PFO: Knowing the Settlements and Companies that are actively RPing.

103: Creating a Character Concept that fits in

103B: Creating a Character that sets a trend (does not fit, but without breaking)

104: Introduction to the Escalations

105: NPC Factions in PFO

Advanced RP in PFO:

201: How to create RP Events

There is of course a lot of room for adding to this, tweaking it or removing elements.

If I could favorite this multiple times, I would!

This thread was created for discussion and crowd forging so I appreciate it all. From the beginning I have tried to take as many perspectives into consideration for PFU. We do not currently have a 'board' but what most can attest to is that I regularly seek and use the feedback of the community to shape PFU. I need to think a bit more about formal structures and this discussion has helped me move in that direction. (I have also spent quite a bit of time irl working with volunteer organizations and have actually written multiple books about volunteer management so I get what you are talking about.)

My current management design is to be transparent, take feedback from as many as possible but ultimately I am trying to make the best decisions for PFU. PFU is not a democracy but people are welcome to vote with their feet (by walking away) or swords (then again it seems that a few students want to make hunting Hoffman an exercise for 'graduation' from PFU which my armor does not appreciate :)).

Our structure is very lean right now and is as follows:

Hoffman - Dean (handles all major decisions, politics, and outside relations)
Foxglove - Chair of the Curriculum (all of the classes, schedules, etc)
Vorsk - Chair of Students (recruitment, keeping students in line, etc)

Our full time faculty (people who dedicate their playtime to PFU) include: Nactillius, Auriga, Aurora, SSpitfire

Our regular teachers include Duffy, Thannon Foresworn, SSpitfire, Cheatle, GW Staff and hopefully Guurzak, Midnight/Savage Grace and Pino.

We hope to grow our regular teachers. I wonder if our 'board' should essentially be a faculty senate or the like. Hmmm.

I would be interested in participating in/contributing to this as well (although the meta-complications of doing a course instructing a character on how a player should behave is making me twitch...). Maybe we can pull together some of the great advise that has already been submitted to these forums in the last 3+ years and create yet another Guide...and give credit to the original contributers.

Let me know if someone takes the lead.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I wasn't suggesting telling people how to role play / play, but more so pointing to information and resources that might help facilitate more role playing.

I could start off with "This is how I see playing a CN Bandit in PFO". I first started by reading the River Kingdoms Guide, and focused on everything it had to say about bandits, the River Freedoms, the Outlaw Council and any if the notable Bandit Lords in the River Kingdoms.

I then took a look at what aspects of PFO lend themselves to Role Playing a bandit. What are the Roles, and Skills a bandit would rely on? What kind of gear and maneuvers would he likely use? How would race play a difference in RPing a bandit?

Then I'd look at the geo-political make up of the River Kingdoms of PFO. What company and settlement should I join? Or should I remain independent of them all and remain low level content. (hmm, that might be a very fun niche for RP purposes and game play purposes).

What escalations are tied in some way to banditry or at least increase Subterfuge while doing them? How can I work that I to my character's story and more importantly, how can I have that impact his future actions?

What role will NPC factions play in my role playing?

Most if not all of these questions will have very individualized answers.

No, sorry...I did not mean to say you were. I was more imagining me (the player), playing my character, instructing another character in the best-practices of how to use out of game concepts - to actually educate the player playing that character...and considering how to do so, in character.

Amazingly, I understood this.

Actually, I have no interest in RP, I am just f$cking with you all! It is Green Hat Tuesday, and I'm just being a Chaotic A-hole..... Lol!! ;-)

At least your RP isn't a stretch. :) (joking, really, don't kill me)

Did I hear "Green Hat Tuesday" being mentioned?

Well it has indeed been some time since I have spread a bit of chaos onto these boards. But, Oh how I will miss the good-natured banter of Andius. His ranting oratory and attempts to organize around the concept that Rovagug was coming, had spawned my very existence.

I shall enjoy guiding Bluddwolf in his preparation in teaching a class on being deliciously, chaotic.
