Our group is again in need of a GM.
We have been together for quite some time having finished book 1 and 2 of Carrion Crown together.
Our first GM became a parent and could no longer continue,
Our second GM just started with us and had to drop due to RL.
We seek a new GM once more we have just started book 3

Reviewing your thread for possible GM submission.
You can chase my avatars down to stalk me, if you choose.
I have run this path to its conclusion at my table top game and am running it as my 1st GM PbP .
I will not lie, as a PbP GM, I am a green horn.
As a GM, well, I have a lot of time under my belt and Gm for a Contributor.

well first off, you seem willing, and at this point that's the number one requirement.
as far as green goes, we all learn as we go, the best way is to do...

I pm'd everyone hope to get more responses back.
Well, this group has had its share of RL tragedies lately. So it's understandable if people are slow to return, if at all.
As I've said back in the discussion thread, I'm not planning on leaving these boards anytime soon, so I'm game for trying to rekindle the magic. But really, we've already lost Andjela when Mug left us, so I don't know how I'll feel if we lose Tolvan or Danica as well. Hopefully they'll be willing to keep it going along with Kimberly, Oathar and me.

If you need another player, I'd be happy to join in. I'm playing RPGs for 30 years, but never tried PbP, so I may have a question now and then. If you want me, I'd like to play a bomber alchemist, but if another class is needed I can build something else.
Tankred looks up from the potion he brews. The weaverworm is especially noisy - again, he grumbled under his breath. Maybe I should go fetch some rot grubs to feed it....
The big worm had a taste for the little creepers, odd as that sounds.
Maybe some sort of immunity, Tankred wondered.
But should I really leave my potion alone? It's almost ready... The spider Tankred needs to finish it crawls on the back of his hand, struggling to escape.
You'll grant me Dexterity soon, little one..., Tankred smiles, almost missing the screams outside of his chamber.

I wouldn't mind throwing my name in for a player submission as well if you'll have me. As a forewarning I am well ahead in this AP in meatspace, but I am very good at keeping a character separate from Meta knowledge. I vastly prefer Martial classes and have played six different Swashbucklers, so there's that.
The man in the long coat draws a magnificent Bastard Sword and levels it at his foe, "My name is Silas Lowe. I've been a Captain of the Chelexian Navy, and a Pirate feared even in the Shackles. I've sailed the Eye of Abednego and I've loved and lost a woman who would put it to shame. I've slaughtered ghosts and soldiers and beasts of other worlds and you think that sprouting a little fur is going to scare me, mate?"
The werewolf seemed about to reply when he was quite literally cut short.

Lets see if they wish me as a GM before we become concerned about recruiting.
Frankly, as a GM, I love the groups I play/run with on the boards and in my meat space.
I am moderately shocked no one else is biting on this group.
It looks quite good.
If chosen, I look forward to adding them to my circle.

My other game has experienced a number of severe issues.
I had a number of very, very bad things occur last year, one after another.
Two of the players are from my original recruitment, the rest I took from my reign of winter game.
That game is paced some what more slowly, some of the players have a number of ongoing issues, so we play as we go.
My pace as GM tends to be reactive to the players.
I do like a more aggressive pace when possible.
I like to post about once a day, more if needed/able, traditionally in the morning or the evening.
Most Sundays I don't post, Yard work or Meat space game.
Again, greenhorn PbP GM, that is my first PbP as a GM.

Been there, done that on the last year as with most of us in this game. It got so bad I had to have my wife do a blessing on the game. I am disabled so I can post most of the day and night unlike most of y'all that can work for a living. Sounds good enough for me. I am itching to get back to it whenever we can get started. I am a fairly new to pbp myself. In one Roll20 game that has too many stops and fits. We don't play more than we play. In three plus months we have had a couple of encounters.

I suspect its because you jumped on pretty quickly and showed every sign of taking it. I saw this one, but didn't go at it because you had your name in the ring. Bad form to jump in and say "ooh pick me before him as your GM!"
Much luck to you all!

@ Old Guy GM: My hat was in the ring first, true; however, the decision of the players on their new GM has not been made yet.
My commentary was also meant to drum up additional interest, competition is good and this group deserves the chance to review more than the first person to express interest.
It is entirely possible they will find a more experienced, better fitting GM.
I get beat out by my betters, I get beat out.
My apologies if you believe my enthusiasm for this group is bad form.
If you believe you are a good fit for this group, please, place your hat in the competition for their review.
Or inform other available GMs about this thread.
Old Guy GM |
LOL, Scotty that wasn't directed at you at all! You mentioned you were surprised no one bit on this group, and I simply mentioned that the reason I didn't check into it was because you already had. The bad form would have come from me if anything.
I don't get in the way of GM's who want to take a game. These boards are full of abandoned games, hell, I had to do it when I was laid off back in 2008.
Take no offence, I was happy someone checked in right away.

Just some new information on recruiting.
As a heads up, I learned today my job and company are going to be undergoing a massive overhaul in about two months.
Based on previous experience with such things, I not be able to post as often for about 4-6 months.
It will massively impact my time, energy and resources for that time.
I am not withdrawing by submission for the GM spot, but I do recommend additional recruitment options as I most likely will not be capable of keeping up the desired pace.
I hate making commitments I can not fulfill, but I think you guys need to know well in advance.
It's only fair to you to have that information for your decisions.
Oathar The Vigilant |
Been doing some reading of your threads including recruitment and other postings. So far I get that you are an old grognard. Being one myself, I can relate to that. We all have our idiosyncrasies. This is the first time I am playing a paladin that is actually a nice guy. Most of mine are mean SOBs. But I like playing rogues, wizards and clerics also. I am pretty old school. I like things well rounded where it comes to characters. Min/Maxing is not for me. I would rather forego that 18 and be more than a one trick pony. So what idiosyncrasies would you care to share? I am usually the old grumpy dwarf as a GM at my tables. I try not to be as a player.
Old Guy GM |
Its not so much that I am an old grognard, its the way I run pbp. I'm pretty flexible in my games: my goal is for the players to have fun - and by so doing, I will myself. Some things:
1) I don't use the dice roller, except for certain situations determined by me. I roll everything, you can be sure, but with actual dice. Why? It's faster for me. Less typing and formatting and previewing to see the roll so I can write the exposition.
2) My combats run via map, and I have you post your actions with rolls, then ooc the gritty parts like grid coords and such.
3) I require my players to post their basic stats in their avatar profile, things like AC, saves, init, perception. Makes my job easier.
4) I usually roll saves and init for the players. I will have you roll saves when its really critical, again this is on a case-by-case basis.
5) I like a 'fast' game, and by that I mean one that keeps moving. It doesn't have to be 2 posts per day, but an average of one is expected. I can dmnpc anyone as necessary, just let me know. Once I get a feel for my group, I will move things forward without the post-a-day from each person.
The best way to get a grasp of how I do things is to read my games.
Hope this helps.
brvheart |
1)Sounds interesting. I would have to see the mechanics.
2) Most of us use a map. A lot of us use Roll20 for such.
3) If you look in our gameplay thread all of us have all our basic stats listed for our characters. Easier on all of us.
4) I sometimes roll init for players if they have not responded by the time it is time to start combat. Sometimes for saves and we sometimes have to DMNPC players. Helaman had us do it for the other players, but I usually do it for my games.
5) Most of my games are at least 200 posts a month. My new game is about 200 a week, but we just started so I expect it to taper off.
I can read selective parts of games, but can't do extended reading at present due to my Sjogrens, sorry. I am ok on the computer for about an hr or two at a time. Then I need long breaks.

I'm still here. I appreciate your honesty, Scotty, and in bowing out before your real-life stuff got in the way. Real life always takes priority, but I'm glad for your courtesy.
As I've said in earlier posts, I don't plan on leaving these boards anytime soon. I've been with this game for a long time, and for the longest time it's been my favorite. We've been allowed to explore our characters, and watching/experiencing our growth and friendship (and perhaps more) has been a real treat.
1-2 posts a day is usually no trouble, though sometimes things move faster/slower and I post in response whenever able.
Old Guy, I appreciate you stepping up. Again, if you'll have us, I'm up to trying to recapture the magic we've shared in this game.
How much of our adventures have you read? We had a few recaps when Helaman picked us up, but I know the thousands of posts can be daunting. If you want, I might be able to find the time for a "sizzle reel" so to speak of a few of my favorite moments -- like the seance!
Old Guy GM |
I read a good portion of the Haunting of Harrowstone, and a small bit of Trial. As you said, its quite a bit to read. I was more trying to find your play style and such. I played both of those via tabletop, so I knew the story.
Obviously, one of the hardest things to do is pick up a group late in game, so to speak. And...you're in the middle of a combat as well. Both of those things I can handle, but what I won't have a good grasp of is the PC to PC interactions. More than anything, that would be beneficial as a 'previously on Carrion Crown'. The alternative is to make sure it becomes clear to me through your posts as we ramp back up. I can pick up pretty quickly, and am always open to correction.
If everyone wants to get it moving, I will pick this one up.
