Stat block under your Name / Alias

Pardon the newbie question but how does one go about getting the stat block to display under their name/Alias? I have created a profile but it doesn't automatically display.

Any help on how to do this would be greatly appreciated, even if it is to direct me to another thread where this is explained.

You put the information you want to show in the Race and/or Class boxes on the profile page. They only show up once you're in a campaign thread though.

Is there any way to make your text a different color like red or purple to stand out better?


When you use the [ ooc] tag it changes the color to a light blue but I'm not aware of any way to change it to something other than that.


Using the Url function will make your text dark blue

The problem being that even without any actualy url adress, your can still click on the text. Its best used for highlighting things like numbers in your stat block like so:

Strength: 18

Though to be honest, the ooc tag is better for this.

What would be some common information you'd like to see in a mini-statblock? What format do the PbPers and GMs like to see that information displayed in?


I use this format, in the "Class/level" line.

Necromancer 1 [s poiler=Stats]hp 7/7 | AC 11 (touch 11; FF 10) | Init +1 | Per +2 | Fort +1; Ref +1; Will +3[/s poiler]

If anything there changes temporarily in-game, I'll edit the line with the modified value in an 'ooc' tag. (e.g. A shield spell.)


Please make sure that it is chooseable or not.

For my DM alias, I use:

Race [ b]Narrator[/b ] [Moru-Tactical]
Classes/Levels [Jade-Tactical] [WotR-Tactical]

The [xxxx-Tactical] are url links to the tactical maps for each of the three campaigns.

For my Player alias I use:

Race TN Male Elf rogue 4 Archetypes Scout
Classes/Levels [ b](HP 27 AC:17 T:14 F:13 Saves F:+2 R:+8 W:+1 CMB:+4 CMD:18 Init:+6 Perc: +9 Stealth +11 [/b ]

or some combination. Since this player alias is a rogue, I included his stealth.

Roughly what I use as both a player and request as a GM is the following:

(AC: 19 [T: 11 /FF: 18]; HP: 4/12; F+4, R+1, W+2; Init: +1; Perc: +0 [Darkvision 60'])

-or-

(AC: 21 [T: 14 /FF: 18] +1 dodge w/ crowd control; HP: 55/55 [Rage 48/65] 0 NL; F+5, R+5, W+8 (+10 vs Enchantment); Init: +3 x2; Perc: +10)

It varies really, depending on conditional abilities, or the like. I prefer to not have the spoiler myself, and I know some GM's include CMD as a requested entry, and I include Non-lethal damage usually after I've encountered some.

As a GM, the big thing I like to see is AC (I tend to have my players roll their saves).

As a player, I find I look there primarily for hp.

That said, like others, my aliases tend to have hp, AC, saves and maybe initiative and Perception.


I have started using the dice code to roll the 1d20, the ooc tag to list all three saves modifiers and then editing to add the word saved or failed, to describe the result.....

Example:

DM: will save DC 18.........

PC:

1d20 ⇒ 20 fort+6, reflex+8, Will+10

Edit.....save made!


GM's typically want certain information at their fingertips, primarily stuff that the GM will roll or roll against. So probably: AC, CMD, Saves, Initiative, Perception/Sense Motive, possibly social skills too.

I also like to put something that shows what character resources I have used in a spoiler tag. I typically run out of space so I have to use multiple entries.

I use a format like this:

Male Lava Gnome Sorcerer 1 | AC: 14, TAC: 13, FAC: 12, CMD: 9 | HP 7/7 | Fort +1, Ref +2, Will +4 | Init +5 | Perception +2, Sense Motive +2, Darkvision 60'

Resources:
Spell Slots available: 1st: 1/5 Claws: 6/8 rounds left SLAs: Dancing Lights, Prestidigitation, Flare, Produce Flame


I like peets as a starting place, but a modular/expandable approach is probably better long term.

Off the cuff, having some simple design elements instead of the current form might work out.
Add subheading <name?> <color> <displayed text> <position>
Add spoiler <label> <color/style> <text> <position>

Having an import xml spec you could offer to the char builders is another benefit of this approach.

Mains are:

HP, AC/TAC/FAC, CMD, For, Ref, Will, (conditional save bonuses), Ini, Senses (perception, darkvision, scent, sense motives, etc...)
I have found that is also the most common order of appearance.

Most people also adds information to have an idea of what kind of character you are:
gender race class (archetype) level

Yet, other useful stuff people add in a more free-form text are:
effects affecting the character
remaining daily uses (spells, spell-likes, special abilities, etc...)
skills within a spoiler
links to relevant campaign information (maps, treasure sheets, briefing documents, animal companions, etc...)

You can get a good glimpse by looking at the PCs aliases of the most prevailing campaigns in the forums.
