Pathfinder University is proud to announce our first class will be a public Fireside Chat with Goblinworks COO and Paizo CEO Lisa Stevens, Wednesday 2/18 at 8PM Eastern in Thornkeep (within the keep palisade) and on the Golarion Mumble.

Lisa has agreed to answer our questions (as best as she can) and Hoffman will be the moderator. What that means is you can post your questions here, PM them to Hoffman and/or ask them in Hex or PM via Mumble during the event. I am going to try to ask Lisa questions that impact the largest player groups first, and during the event will be watching Hex chat for follow up questions.

We encourage everyone to join us in keep in Thornkeep as we would love to see a large group of players together. Dress to impress and wear your best for the pictures. We will also try to record the session to share for those who can't make it.

Bottom line details:

Event: Public Fireside Chat with Lisa Stevens
Date/Time: Wednesday 2/18, 8-9PM EST
In-Game Location: Thornkeep within the keep palisade
Mumble location: Golarion/University mumble - golarion.mumble.com port 3093 in the Pathfinder University Channel. Download the mumble client here *Mumble is limited to the first 100 participants.

This is the first class of the Pathfinder University curriculum. We will launch a daily class series after this. Pathfinder University will be holding its classes in Thornkeep and on the Golarion Mumble and all are welcome to come.

Pathfinder University is a company for new players in their first 90 days. More information is available here.

Great job! A Q&A session with any dev is a rare treat - when she is also the head of Paizo (and in my mind pretty much the Empress of Golarion), it's double goodness.

Knowing you, I expect that means "the largest numbers of players" and has nothing to do with guilds/companies/settlements.

I'll be there if i can, but 2-3 AM on a worknight isn't optimal.

Goblin Squad Member

Why not in the Thornkeep Inn? Much cosier, there's a nice hearth there and it can hold a lot of people also on the balustrade.

Let's get those Inns populated!

Goblin Squad Member

That hearth would make it truly "fireside".

Yes, when I read the thread title I was sure it would be in the Inn. Then I noticed we all get rounded up in the exercise grounds of some chilly fortress! I don't trust it...

I want beers, a fire, someone with an apron behind the counter! Jollyness!

Goblin Squad Member

moving it inside just before starting, propping down a campfire outside - anything's possible.

But the keep is certainly easy to find for newcomers and can fit the whole server population if needed.

Yes Randomwalker. I am planning on getting to the questions that impact more players not that are neccisarily part of larger groups.

And for those who recommend a real fire I'm sure we can make something happen. Just figured the keep is the easiest thing to find. ;)

Does the GW Twitch plan to cover the event as well?

Just checked with Lisa and we are ok to record and it will be posted a day or two afterwards. Hope to see you all there tomorrow night for the live session. If you attend live we are going to do a 'photo shoot' and you will have your opportunity to ask questions.

Goblinworks Executive Founder

If nobody else is doing so and I get no objection, I plan to broadcast on my own Twitch and maybe expand the audience by a couple of people.

Goblin Squad Member

I am perfectly fine by that. The only reason I didn't broadcast it on twitch is due to my own lack of technical ability. You can feel free to post the twitch link here for all to see.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight to kick off the Pathfinder University in Thornkeep! Hopefully the Thorn Guards don't kill me on sight! :)

Lisa, I am unable to attend, but I would like to bring to your attention that we (settlement leadership) have no way to connect with people who voted for settlements during the land rush. If they can be reached by GW directly, it will help all settlements recruit people who showed interest back then, but who haven't been seen since.

If anyone attending can pass the above message to Lisa, I would appreciate it. :)

I want to say thank you to Lisa for joining us, Pino and Decius for recording/broadcasting the session and to all of you who attended. It was a great session.

We got to hear about the past, present and future of the game in addition to learning a bit about Lisa.

Spoiler:

We learned about the origin story of Lisa and Ryan, and how Lisa hated Ryan at first but grew to be great friends.
We learned about holdings including manor houses and how they can be enlarged over time
Lisa shared that she has one of the 5 largest Star Wars collections in the world, and her coolest item. Since this is in a spoiler window, her coolest item is Yoda. You heard that right, Lisa has the molds and multiple heads of Yoda in her possession which were bequeathed to her by the original creator of Yoda!

Our next class is tonight, Thursday 2/19 at 9pm. Our guest speaker is SSpitfire who will be talking about feat trees, followed by a discussion about PFO math underlying the combat system.

Friday 2/20 at 10pm central EU time (UCT+1) we will have Foxglove presenting Gearing Up; how to get beter gear and use it too. This class will provide an intro on crafting Tier 1 +2 gear, and Foxglove will help you make your own! We are going to provide some supplies but are always interested in donations to the university of gear and raw/salvage/refined goods.

Sunday 2/22 Will be new player day from 1-9 Eastern, but will have a special session hosted by Vorsk from 1:30-4. Expanding Problems: An Introduction to Escalations. A brief introduction to how escalations work, how to approach them, and their importance to the game. Followed by in the field experience taking on an escalation with the class.

Monday 2/23 at 9PM EST Duffy will be presenting How to Solo Red Mobs and Small Group PvE. He will include some simple feat setups including armor/feature/implement choices, combat states, combat debuffs, and how to capitalize on these effects both solo and with groups.

Tuesday 2/24 at 8PM EST Thannon Forsworn will be doing Crafting 101 overview course on how gathering, refining, and crafting are all interwoven and some general advice about leveling crafting.

This is pretty awesome. Thanks for doing this, Axi.

Seriously though, do it in the Inn next time. Inns need love, I will keep saying this untill I am blue in the face. :)

I propose to add a few chairs and tables to the Inn (I have actually seen screens where they had those already in the Inn) and maybe the /sit animation could be the first one to be implemented! Just a sit pose, no fancy "click on a chair and sit on it" hoopla.

Way to go guys! Maybe once do a Fireside at 4pm Eastern on a weekend day, that way Euro's could attend too.

Goblin Squad Member

Tyncale, I hear you on the Inns. You will love camps/small holdings if you want to sit around the fire. I was fortunately to get to play with base camps and small holdings in the test server and you actually do sit on the ground and 'warm up'. So if it exists for camps, there may be a way for the tech to work for inns also.

Here we go again! This was a big discussion a while back.

Hooray! I bought a base camp, so this is excellent news. Mind you, Deianira's idea of camping is an inn without room service, but still, good to know!

Lol, I've seen both, and while the 'click and sit' fits better and looks proper, it drives me crazy when a group is sitting around together and staring off into space because they can't turn to face each other. So I prefer being able to sit cross-legged on a chair if it means I can turn my position to face whatever direction I like.

Also, any basic sit /emote would be very welcome since it is often used as a way to distinguish if a party member is afk and when they've returned.

Goblin Squad Member

Lifedragn thinks I want to ban roleplaying features.:(

I don't! I like the Lotro-type click and sit, but I'd just see a more simple iteration of sitting sooner rather then later. This game is starved for developer time, so when I say something like the above, I just try to stand in the shoes of the devs, and that way hope to convince them to implement a simpler iteration.

If I'd be clamoring for click and sit they'd just wave it away to the far future. But a simple /sit animation does not have to be that far away.

Alos, /agree Ravenlute on the AFK thing. Looks a lot better then the idling zombies we see now. I think sitting folks liven up the place big time: give it a more relaxed feel.

Btw, I am still vehemently against any instancing, so maybe we could cross swords about that again, Lifedragn. :D

But just so you know, I am a HUGE fan of fluff and roleplaying features.

I enjoyed the chat very much. Thanks again to Hoffman and PFO Uni for organizing the event, and to Lisa for sharing insights and stories.

This is "Glamping", and I approve! I will go rustic when needed, but prefer a nice place to relax when I can afford it! The Elves of Kyonin know how to be hospitable, but the Halflings are the ones that have Innkeeping and hospitality down to an art!
