Liberty's Edge

Venture Captain Lemtwist Brathham Mallentwine Flannelfoot Smith Olgen Jeebs Nathers Bingham the Third sighed as he, again, scooted the chair up to the desk in his new office. It was rather large, made for the man that he and his group thwarted in his bid to... looking down, the little gnome glanced at his letter before the chair shifted and he saw only the front drawer of the desk.

This is ridiculous. He stood up on the chair and perused the document he was preparing before writing the final sentences. He would see this chair burn before the end of the day. He looked as the door opened, and his protege, Hiero, stepped through. He nodded and smiled.
“Ah, just finished, Hero.”
“Most fortunate, honored one with long name. I have questions that you had to delay until after your mission for the Ten.”
“About my Grandfather?”
“Is he? Or is he Son?” Lemtwist Bratham Mallentwine Flannelfoot Smith Oglen Jeebs Nathers Bingham the Third sighed as Hiero asked this.
“The only thing I know for sure is that he is my father's father. My father already had to deal with the time hopping before I was born, but back then my parents thought the had the feel of a thread. Now, we are all totally lost, including Grandfather.” Hiero nods, having paid particular attention and not turning away.
“So you know not when he was or is?”
“I wouldn't even know where to look to get a feel of what has or has not happened. I am surprised I still see him after all this time, the incident was over thirty years ago.”
“When he died?”
“We think. We only buried a finger.” He jumped down from the chair, going to a chalkboard in the corner of the huge office. Flipping it over, there was a bunch of note pasted pretty much stuck in random locations and different colored strings going to and from the notes in a pattern that looked somewhat but not quite like a disorganized way. “I have been trying to figure some things out, but I think some things are lost in time.”
“Please, turn to me, I can not read your lips.” The gnome turned to him and started to repeat what he had said, when a figure came through the wall.
“GRANDSON... MY LITTLE LIGHTNING... I NEED YOUR HELP!!” He was a gnome, much like Lemtwist Bratham Mallentwine Flannelfoot Smith Olgen Jeebs Nathers Bingham the Third, but with devices on his shoulders, belt, hips, wrists, ankles and bellybutton. He was also transparent.
“Grandfather?”
“No time.... no time. I have made a terrible mistake. A terrible, terrible mistake. I will need all the help I can get to put things... to save the world.”
“Not set things right?” Hiero, seeing the senior gnome for the first time, guessed right away that the little git was still holding something back.
“I... can't. The Starfall has already... it is to late... but I can...” He looks at the room. “Oh, new office? A little big, isn't it?”

Venture Captain Lemtwist Bratham Mallentwine Flannelfoot Smith Olgen Jeebs Nathers Bingham the Third went to Lemtwist Bratham Mallentwine Flannelfoot Smith Olgen Jeebs Nathers Bingham Senior and shook him, almost, but not quite, surprised that he could physically touch him.
“The Starfall? You had something to do with the Starfall?”
“It's all my fault. I need your help to stabilize it, or it will go straight through and tear this world asunder.” He flips the chalkboard, and begins quickly drawing. “Portals will start appearing, going to different times and threads. I can't control them, that Augistina prat put his inexpert use of a scroll right over one and all the others warped because of it.” He finished on the chalkboard and turned around. “I think there are several things we need to fix, prevent the dino from coming through, have the drunk touch the Starstone, change the angle of the fall, catch the paperclip before it hits....” He looks to the ceiling, his eyes becoming unfocused. “Oh, fiddlesticks, one has opened already. Gather your people, I will come back to explain.” He took a step and disappeared.

Venture Captain Lemtwist Bratham Mallentwine Flannelfoot Smith Olgen Jeebs Nathers Bingham the Third looked at the chart/drawings on the chalkboard, then flipped back over, then back again.
“It is almost the same, as a pattern in the sand.” Hiero rubbed his blue skin and blinked as the gnome turned to him.
“Go get Drendle Drange.” Hiero was almost out the door, when the Venture Captain threw a pen past him to get his deaf friend's attention. “Tell him to gather every Pathfinder we can muster, we are gonna need them.”

As Hiero left, Venture Captain Lemtwist Bratham Mallentwine Flannelfoot Smith Olgen Jeebs Nathers Bingham the Third brought out a sheet of paper, and wrote a few notes. He knew, for the first time since he has had these meetings, when his grandfather was. He was missing a finger...
