In the run up to 4E's release, I vaguely recall a poster saying the "big" 3PP guys for 3E weren't nesecairily (omg, I can't spell!) going to be big players in 4E.
His theory was that while one or two of the big boys might continue on, most of 4E's big 3PPs will be newcomers to the field, better suited to utilizing the new ruleset.
I'm pretty sure most people thought he was crazy (I sure hope I didn't say anything too derisive of the idea!)

while it looks like the bigger 3PP are balking, new, smaller companies are jumping in to fill the void.
I'm quite happy about this. I love a lot of the products, True20 foe example, the big 3pp put out and would like to see them concentrate on those lines.
However being addicted to spending I like having options to buy alternate product lines that wotc don't produce.
