The great auction - Emerald Lodge auctions of Dwarven Steel Banded +1

Theodum looked up from the paperwork. This had to stop. This had to stop NOW. All these expenses for coal, iron, weapons, armour. This was just wrong. He had founded this place for research - but Thod was perverting it into an army camp.
Yes - there were monsters around - and maybe not everyone close by was actually friendly - but this didn't mean that 99% of efforts had to go into building a local military.
The Emerald Lodge was peaceful - the Emerald Lodge was here to explore the Emerald Spire - not to compete with Golgotha or Brighthaven to compete for militaristic might.
Time to make an example. With this in mind he marched off to the Armour Smith.
Jazz - show me what you are working on. I'm very concerned in the costs you currently produce. Hm - one Dwarven Steel Banded - delivered to Baron already. A second one - already nearly finished - sized for Smendor. But I see you got from Thod the refined materials for a third one - and even refined materials for a fourth one are ordered. Are you aware what all of this costs us ???
I hereby conficate the third Dwarven Banded Steel Plate +1 in the name of the Lodge. You will carry on producing it as normal - but it won't be used any military purpose of the Emerald Lodge but rather sold off to the highest bidder to enable some spend on non militaristic uses here in town. And if Thod complains - send him to me. I can deal with him.

Theodum left the Smithy a lot happier as he had arrived. This deed was done. Now it was time to send a few letters out to other settlements to advertise that some armor of the highest quality was up for auction to the highest bidder.

Who says you need an auction house. This is a sandbox game - with player generated content. So lets create some content.

How does the auction work:

Bits can be submitted either here on this board, the GW board with a similar thread - or via PM to me if you want to stay anonymous. I try to update the highest bid on both boards. Please keep in mind I have to sleep occasionally and can't be online 24/7.
The last bit is accepted Saturday 7th Ferbruary 17:00 GMT (the beginning of the downtime). The winner will be announced during the downtime.

Starting bit is 1 copper. You have to outbit the highest bid to become the new bid leader. The highest bid when the auction closes will get the armour.

Bids are in copper pieces or copper piece equivalents. I will list copper piece equivalents that I accept.

Raw materials:

Tier 1:
1 cp for any tier 1 raw material not listed below up to 500 max of a single material
3 cp Ordered Essence, weak acidic
5 cp Antithesis Essence, wool, yew
10 cp hemp, pine, any gem, copper
15 cp coal, yellow, weak adhesive, pelts
30 cp green

Tier 2
5 cp for any tier 2 raw material not listed below up to 200 max of a single material
10 cp Maple, Oak
25 copper Moderate Varnish, Blue, Pelts
50 copper Lodestone

The highest price is paid for salvage that falls into 2 categories

Some not listed raw materials might get added to a higher price band - ask me if you think tansy leaves should be 30cp or whatever you have is worth more as the unlisted price

Refined goods:

150% of cost of raw materials - see raw materials table

Possibly a much higher markup for tier 2 - ask

Recipes:

Tier 1:
100 cp for any tier 1 recipe not listed below up to 3 max of the same recipe
200 cp for refiner +1 recipe,
300 cp for any armour or weapon recipe
400 cp for refiner +2 recipe
600 cp for refiner +3 recipe
1000 cp cold iron ingot +2, cold iron ingot +3

Tier 2
500 cp for any tier 2 recipe not listed below
2000 cp for refiner +1 recipe,
3000 cp for any armour or weapon recipe
4000 cp for refiner +2 recipe
6000 cp for refiner +3 recipe

Ask for individual prices as some recipes might be valued higher. A maximum of 3 of the same tier 1 and 2 of the same tier 2 recipes unless I wave the max

Monster drops:

5 cp for any token
10 cp for any implement drop
20 cp for cure tokens
50 cp for any +0 weapon drop or tier 2 token
150 cp for any +0 armor drop
500 cp for any spell or maneuver

20 cp for any book page
40 cp for unopened book pages

Ask for individual prices if you think yours is more valuable. A maximum of 3 of the same is enforced

Transportation costs:

The bid assumes that you deliver copper or raw materials to the Emerald Lodge and pick up the armour.

Delivery is 50 cp per hex distance from Emerald Lodge. This includes bandit insurance. A new set will be delivered if the amor is lost or a 10% rebate is given for each 1/20th of damage taken.

Pickup is 20 cp per hex for each 40 encumbrance.

Example: 80 coal = 1200 cp = 40 encumbrance
EL = 1200 cp
Marchmont 1200 cp minus 160 cp pickup = 1040 cp
Ozem Vigil 1200 cp minus 340 cp pickup = 860 cp
This assumes true coal.

1 copper bid. Yeah, I'll be that guy.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

Bidding starts at 1 cp.

The armour is already in the production queue and should be finished around 12:00 GMT Saturday. But having done e-Bay a few years ago I know I need to offer a better ending time for possible US customers.

200 Coal + 50 Lodestone; I got more Tier 2 Metals than you can shake a Kobold at. Try Me (looks at Midnight). :)

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

For the people not looking at the spoilers

200 coal = 3000 cp
50 lodestone = 2500 cp

Total bid 5500 cp (minus possible transport costs if not delivered)

The shoulder pads on the +1 look really snazzy.

I bid 7 tansy leaves! Oh, I see I'm too late. *puts hand down*

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

Just made some pictures. Will post them later (if I don't forget). The armour for the auction is now in production as I just finished and delivered the second suit.

I bid 1 silver piece

Did you mean a maximum of three unresearched pages, in addition to a maximum of three of any one page?

Not so much bidding on the banded but what other trades are of interest.

Locke and Xinty have about 160 coal in Emerald Lodge bank which was to be traded for copper to Golgotha, but they did not have the time to arrange a meet up so we went home. I am away from the game until late Saturday. What is offered besides cp for this trove? Xinty need +3 crystal recipes (for SAGE 6/7). There is other stuff there and we could bring some antithesis essence dow if it was worth the collecting.

Goblin Squad Member

We will still trade copper for coal FYi. Just shoot me a pm to work it out.

But, but, but

The Armour Smith is dwarven blood

Photos as promised

I hope the bid from Giorgo didn't scare everyone away. It certainly stopped the fun bids ...

Goblin Squad Member

Damn right it's a non trivial bid, we dwarves take these things seriously.

Giorgo wrote:

All my coal and lodestone goes to Benevolent Dictator's coffers.

But I also have no need to bid because all my armor comes from Benevolent Dictator's coffers.

Giorgo wrote:

While it isn't trivial, I'm surprised that it remains the high bid 11 hours later.

That's only as much coal as you get looting two of Grumpf's husks. ;-)

It takes a high level free holder 3 standard trips to move that kind of load and still stay mobile. With 2 trips the weight is almost unbearable , which would explain why that PC had a husk that was looted... :)

It is good e-Bay bidding - either shock and awe early or leave it late. Unfortunately don't have the functionality of e-Bay here which would automatically raise bids by x and keep the fun going.

Goblin Squad Member

So much for my bid of 1000 Tansy Leaves.

Yes, his waddle is what tends to attract my mates. It pretty much screams "ignore your rep and gank me, I'm worth it!"

He's not completely clueless, though. He was asking on the help channel where he could find coal away from Golgotha.

I guess he thinks the rest of you deserve a chance at the coal pinata. ;-)

Sorry - but you also missed the small print - 500 Tansy Leaves max. I can't challenge the Tansy Leave Monopoly of Golgotha - but PR.

Are you guys seriously valuing coal that high? Cause if so we should talk...

Yes - definately willing to exchange 15 tansy leaves for 1 piece of coal.

Yes - definately willing to exchange 15 tansy leaves for 1 piece of coal.

I think the source of my confusion is that you are base valuing tansy leaves at 1c instead of some fractional amount of copper.

Goblinworks Executive Founder

Are you valuing T2 recipes that little? Do you have any that you would sell at those equivalencies?

Grand Lodge

More importantly, why on Erastil's green grass (soon to be greener, thank ZOG!) would you value Loadstone that highly!? You need only a fraction of it compared to the iron and the coal.

I bid 200 Lodestone ("1 gold"), to be delivered to the destination of your choosing within 1 week of close of the auction.

Gale

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

And we have a new highest bidder - Gale Windswept

Current High bid stands at 1 gold

Thanks Gale for the bid

Answering a few questions about valuations coal and lodestone:
Each new Dwarven Steel Banded armour costs me around 2 1/2 hours real time. 1 hour to gather the coal, 1 hour to gather the lodestone, iron comes 'for free' while gathering the lodestone and the little bit of copper is taken from my stocks (enough broken goblin weapons) and the wool is delivered by my settlement.
And yes - I was doing two midnight sessions to gather enough materials to have the production running 24/7 for my own people and this auction. Without the midnight sessions I would have just had some 'holes' in the production line and would have produced 1 or 2 suits of armour less.
Selling it here gave me the motivation to go out and 'grind' the coal and lodestone.

So the current price of 200 lodestone or 667 coal is the equivalent of 10 hours my real time. This means I'm happy and I win.

I have added all other resources as well because some possible customers (single PvE players) might not even have close to the amount of copper pieces needed - but they might have a vault overflowing with 'junk' or more precise with stuff they got but don't use.

@Decius Brutus
This leads to some valuations maybe ridiciously low. I value a tier 2 recipe currently between worthless and unaffordable.
Do I really need a Journeymans Digitalis recipe - at the same time - a Dwarven Steel Plate +1 recipe would allow me to produce the +2 version of the armour and I would make you the first +2 Dwarven Steel Plate for free.
The problem is - I can't give a blanket value for these without being ripped off. There are lots of min-maxer out there. I had to ensure I'm not getting just worthless junk - or at least get enough of it. Yes - maybe I should lift the restriction on max and take 10001 TansY Leaves.

Gol Phyllain - that would make ME the new Tansy King (hopefully - don't tell me you have more Tansy leaves). Tell me you have less then 10K Tansy leaves and I open up the number of tansy leaves to whatever the king on the hill has +1.

Oh - and there is no restriction on the number of unopened book pages - as we don't know what they contain. I just wanted to ensure I don't get 25 times page 18 of the Paladin Code.

Are 250 unopened bookpages worth it instead of 200 lodestone. Not for Thod or the development of the settlement - but for Theodums Ego and as RP - priceless.

We have a new highest bid. The bidder wants to stay anonymous.

anonymous wrote:

My bid will be 500 antithesis, 500 decorative gems, 500 yew refined into shafts which is 1.375 gold.

edit: These are the refined decorative +0 and not the raw material in case people wonder how it adds up.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

And I should add that the armour is finished ahead of time (I thought it would be lunch today).
It is ready to be collected in the EL vault as soon as the auction has ended (after the downtime today).

Goblin Squad Member

Why would a dwarf with any sense craft armor that makes them look like giant bumble bees when worn? Clearly this armor is of elven make but branded to be sold to snobby dwarves. It looks ridiculous but their ego tells them they have to have it! It's "Dwarven" after all!

And we have a winner. I will be sending a PM in a moment to discuss the details. The winner will stay anonymous.

Rip off. You know how many 'decorative' stones it takes to make a batch of 5 Decorative Gems +0? It takes 5. There is no loss of resource, the crafting time is done in mere moments per batch. They are essentially one and the same. You got played.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

Theodum looked at the future library. Finally he had bought something of beauty. All these gems - that would make the Emerald Lodge Library the most beautiful in all of the River Kingdoms.

Shelyn would be jealous.

I wrote my own rules and I stick to them. Sometimes you win more / sometimes your lose more.

And no worries - anonymous offered me a generous limit which would have raised his cost by a lot - alas no more bids had been coming.

Thanks for everyone who participated or just posted here.
