Why would you ever cut out 200 cards (pdf file) when you could have these from drivethru...

Now that people have actual DriveThru cards in hand (or soon will), I'm going to say something that you're going to find hard to believe, but I think people will back me up.

When I put a 1st printing card into a 2nd printing deck, I can find the 1st printing card without much effort. It's about half a millimeter longer than the 2nd printing card.

When I put a DriveThru card into a 2nd printing deck, it's difficult to pick out. They seem to be very close to the same size.

So far, so good. Here's the weird part:

When I put a DriveThru card into a 1st printing deck, it's difficult to pick out. The DriveThru card is just a *hair* shorter, but it's much harder to spot than the difference between the 1st printing and 2nd printing—you really have to look hard for it.

Awesome!

Will the PDFs be 1st printing size or 2nd printing size?

Our files have always been the same size. The size difference between printings is in the cutting, not the printing. So your ability to size them for your own needs is limited only by your own ability to cut them precisely.

The great part is, if you're sleeving with the opaque backed pathfinder branded sleeves, you could literally put any card in there and be none the wiser, even some homebrews..

Interesting Vic. I guess the DriveThru cards are somewhere between the sizing of the two prints, and is close enough to both to not be a problem. That definitely makes me more confident about picking up the full 1st print errata pack at my next paycheck.

If that's the case that it's much closer to the 1st printing cards than the 2nd printing card size that people are worried about, you should definitely add that to the descriptions as well.

I know I was looking forward more to the PDFs because of the card size difference (bothered by the size of 2nd in my 1st), but if it's pretty much not noticeable (as opposed to the quite noticeable of 2nd printing), I think people would be more apt to purchase the decks.

They'd also possibly be more willing to purchase the custom cards if they know they'll fit better with the first printing.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

*I* think that the difference is so negligible that no disclaimer about size is needed on any of the DriveThru products. But I'd like to hear what customers who have received actual cards think about that first.

Will the printed errata decks be available at paizo.com, or should we order them directly from DriveThru?

DriveThru.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I just received my errata decks (full 1st edition), and did a card-for-card replacement; I ended up with 2 1 original cards with no replacement:

1x - Blessing of the Gods (C)
1x - Siren (C)

Regarding the size difference: I can tell the difference if I stand them up next to each other, but since I sleeve me cards it's not an issue for me. However, I would think it would be better to have the disclaimer saying there *might* be a difference even if it's not noticeable than to not have a disclaimer when it is. CYA.

One minor wish would be that the errata card somehow indicated a version or at least that it is an errata (such as a tiny "e" in the corner). More than once when I was replacing cards would I set the old too close to the new, look away, and forget which was which. Note: this should also serve as a compliment for how close the new are to the originals.

EDIT: I checked the FAQ and found why C-Deck Siren wasn't replaced: it was already correct; only the B-deck version was missing the Elite trait.

Do you mean that there are only four C Blessings of the Gods in the set that you got from DriveThru?

Mike Selinker wrote:

Yes. The count from DriveThru does match the number specified in Vic's post, but it doesn't match the actual number in my deck.

I will add that I really don't care about a single BotG; I'm just pointing out there's a difference.

Same happened to me...
missing 1 BotG C deck...

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game Designer

Sounds like an error on our part. We will look into it.

Please confirm: if I have *any* combination of first and second printing, then I should purchase *only* the first printing replacement and this will cover every single errata card?

There were no errors introduced in the second printing that would not be covered by the first edition card set?

Also: is there anywhere to buy an updated rule book?

I guess we might see an Errata Deck errata deck ...

Everything else worked out great. some of the errata was so minor, it took me 3 times re-reading to be sure which card was which, but some of it was stuff that I'm happy to have, like missing keywords/traits, etc. The one missing BotG is a minor thing, and it's in a character deck for a character that's not even being played anymore...

@Paizo

Is there also an updated officially printed RotR Rulebook available for purchase?

The final version of the RotR rules isn't the final version of the rules, so I'm not sure that it'd be viable for them to offer a printed version of the rulebook, as the rules keep getting updated and added to.

Looks like the images are watermarked. That is part of the standard download process and was something that came up with the community use cards. I'm assuming that might be the case here.

I'm hopeful that that's the case and the watermark will be removed from this one.

Pathfinder Card Game Subscriber

If I had to guess, I'm pretty sure they will remove the watermark. Given that it is a free pdf, the watermark doesn't serve much purpose. And Paizo had been very willing to remove it from things like this in the past. I think they even removed it from the character sheets so organized play organizers could hand out sheets without their email address all over it.

The copyright statement on the 1st and 2nd printing cards says "©2013 Paizo Publishing, LLC." The copyright statement on the errata decks says "©2013 Paizo Inc."

The last sentence is correct. If you buy the 1st printing set, it will contain cards that you already have fixed version of in your 2nd printings, but you won't be missing anything.

El Tea wrote:

The most recent *printed* rulebook is the one contained in the Skull & Shackles Base Set. We also have PDF downloads of updated versions of the RotR and S&S rulebooks here.

I'd strongly recommend grabbing the S&S rulebook instead of the RotR rulebook, and just ignore all the stuff about ships. (You'll also want to make sure you read the sidebars labeled "new," which introduce some terminology changes between RotR and S&S.) They shouldn't be watermarked. Will fix.

That reminds me, any chance of getting the PDF of the WotR rulebook online before the product actually releases? I'm sure lots of us would love to read through it before getting the game so we are more ready to open and play when the game arrives.

We'll do that when we start previewing Wrath in blogs in a couple of months.

The person who usually does this is out sick today, so I've attempted to do it myself. That's a thing I haven't done in several years, but I think I've done it correctly...

Looks to have been successful. Thanks Vic.

Just to make sure this wasn't missed, I've already gone through the 2nd Printing Drive-Thru deck. The Character Add-On Blessings weren't fixed, and there are some cards that don't appear to have FAQ entries (I will need to compare these cards to the original to see what changed):

Were the blessings in the 2nd printing Character Add-on not corrected before the second printing was printed?

EDIT: Looking at the FAQ, I guess not.

I had the issue with only four Character Add-On Blessings of the Gods cards as well.

Feedback.

The printing I've received for the First Printing deck is as you said 'just' off in size. I can certainly live with it

Of interest, The cards I have have a much higher saturation of blue hue on them. Quite noticeable on the card backs, Ezren's and Kyra's coats for example are noticeably more blue. As are the frames for the blessings.

Also, the items which in my deck are a very washed out lilac are a darker denim like blue?

Again. I'll live with it. Just an FYI !

@Vic As I replace the cards I've noticed that increased blue saturation across the set. If you want pictures comparing original to the DriveThru feel free to ping me and I'll send you some.

Some folks are aware that one of the reasons we changed printers between 1st and 2nd was that the original printer had a lot of color variation in their product. To be honest, when it came to matching the 1st printing card backs with DriveThru, there was so much variation in the original printing that I had to just gather up a variety of official 1st printing cards and then make sure that the DriveThru cards fell inside the range that I found on those cards. Also, we made very little effort to match the card *faces*—the drift on those from the original printer was even broader than the drift on their cardbacks. And (In my 1st printing desk reference set, for example, my AD1 allies are close to this, while my AD 6 allies look more like this.) Fortunately, color variation on the faces doesn't have any game impact. So I'm not really surprised by what you describe.

I hear you. At one stage in my career I had to deal regularly with glossy Magazine spreads and I've been through all the tribulations I've seen you dealing with :/

For those that seem to look at the card backs the extra blue will drive them batty, but I'm not in that camp.

The BotG set came with 32 B and 4 C cards.

However, the base set came with 32 B and the Add-On deck had 5 C cards. Anyone that ordered that set is missing a Blessing of the Gods C card.

I got my first printing, second printing and BotG sets today. All the cards that were mentioned were in the sets. (All my cards were first printing except Adv Deck 3).

Vic, is there a way to get the additional BotG C card?

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

We fixed this with DriveThru; orders for the BotG set placed after the morning of Wednesday, March 12 include the 5th copy of Blessing of the Gods C. If you placed your order before that, contact our customer service department, and we'll send you a copy from a 2nd printing Add-On Deck.

How can we get one that matches the 1st printing backs?

Sovereign Court

I believe the backs are the same on all the DriveThru cards. They matched the 1st printing the best they could, but part of the reason they went to the new printer for 2nd and on was because there is no single "1st printing" back. There was a massive inconsistency, and they found the backing that was most likely to match the most 1st print cards.

Andrew L Klein wrote:

The problem is, the Add-On deck BoG Vic said Paizo will send to make up for the one missing from the DriveThru errata deck won't be a DriveThru card. It'll be a second printing Add-On deck card. So the back won't match.

Sovereign Court

Pathfinder Card Game Subscriber

Don't know how I misread that part. One card would definitely be off compared to the non replaced cards, but I think it would be less noticeable since mixed in with so many replaced cards that are negligably different.

I don't believe you're right. I'm pretty sure Vic said he approved two different colour samples - one for 1st printing sets, and a different one for 2nd printing.

Edit: Found the reference!

The first post to this thread wrote:

This thread in the Customer Service forum says that the "Dagger +1" cards in the Errata Deck incorrectly show the 'FINESSE' trait.

Is this correct? I can confirm that the trait is indeed on the "Dagger +1" cards in the errata deck - is this a mistake, or is this how the cards are intended to be?

I'm also still unsure as to what to do about the missing "Blessing of the Gods C" in early copies of the Errata Deck (such as the one I have).

Paizo appear to be offering a replacement card, but this is going to be from a 2nd Printing Character Add-On deck. That's not going to be a good colour match for a 1st printing card.

As I see it, my choices are:

  • Include this one 2nd printing card with my other cards (all either 1st printing or from the errata deck designed for use with 1st printing cards)
  • Keep one original "Blessing of the Gods C" without the new wording.
  • Use a deck that is missing one "Blessing of the Gods"
  • Don't use any of the "Blessing of the Gods" errata deck cards.

I'm not really happy with any of those options. What I'd like would be to be able to get a replacement card that matches all my other errata deck cards, but there doesn't seem to be a way for me to do that.
