Witchwolves shapeshift... and become wiser? What?

I wasn't sure if this should go in rules or advice, so I am putting it here. If you feel it should be in advice, please voice your opinion by flagging it for wrong forum (but make sure it hasn't already been moved.)

Now, on to the question...

Witchwolves (Wolf-variant skinwalkers) get +2 Con, -2 Int and the shapeshifted stat is +2 Wis.

So, base skinwalkers get a bonus to a physical attribute of their choice, I get that. Witchwolves lose the choice of stat, I'm okay with that.

However, I am a bit confused on the Witchwolf's shapeshift bonus being Wis... why do they get a MENTAL bonus when they shapeshift? It seems kinda strange...

Anyone able to help me look at this from an in-game reason? Seems to me +2 Wis, -2 Int, +2 Con when shapechanged would have been less confusing as to how growing claws makes you WISER.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Well, look at the effects:

Better perception? Makes sense.
Better sense motive? Makes sense.
Harder to mind control with magic? Maybe.
Harder to trick with illusions? Yeah, I could go for that too.

Ooooh okay, thanks!

So, need to stop thinking of Wis as just an analogue for intelligence and as all of the things that it entails...

Not that I am going to be a cleric instead of an oracle, but... dang Witchwolf clerics should totally just stay shapeshifted all the time LOL who cares if you have a negative to charisma checks, just take the Charm domain LOL. I'm joking. Sort of.
