halfling monk.
Ummmm....
Let's see what we can do with this.
STR - important stat, -2 penalty
DEX - important stat, +2 bonus
CON - important stat, no change
INT - dump stat, no change
WIS - important stat, no change
CHA - dump stat, +2 bonus
I think we can forget about combat maneuvers, given the STR penalty and CMB penalty for size, although the Agile Maneuvers feat would mitigate that somewhat.
Weapon Finesse would work well with Unarmed Strike and most monk weapons. Small size also gives a bonus to hit, but given the monk's starting point, it's hard to see how that helps much.
At least I would have good saving throws.

Challenge thread. I got halfling cleric, which will be easier than halfling monk.
Core only grappling with a small sized monk? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?
I think the idea is to AVOID being grappled, thanks to high CMD against grappling.

As it turns out, this group will be meeting on a night when I can't go.
The only grappling I had ever intended to do was against casters.
Almost anything is easier than a halfling monk! I wonder why Paizo hates my birthday?
Am I out of my mind? It has been observed that only the sane are able to consider the possibility that they are insane. I question my sanity enough to qualify as sane by that standard.
I think that if I ever do play core-only PFS, I will play a dwarf barbarian, or perhaps a gnome sorcerer.

This is a good start, for stats, but improved grapple and agile manuevers is a bad way to go. Once you grapple someone, your CMB and CMD will drop 2 because you will have a -4 dex for being grappled.
If I were stuck with a halfling monk, I might consider a shuriken specialist.

Are you... are you intending to play a Core only Monk?
Well, here's the deal: Core Monk is terrible. Halfling for a Monk? Pretty bad. Core only grappling with a small sized monk? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?
I disagree with this. As I say A LOT the most game breaking character I've seen is an almost totally core monk. Dimensional Agility feats and Panther Style feats are the only things she has non-core things she has, except a potion of Strong Jaw.
Now a core halfling monk, without being able to use Agile, might be difficult.

I'm figuring you don't see a lot of high optimisation in your games, then.

... Single-classed human Fighter named Hubert. Back story omitted. I seek some advice about feats.
Hubert will go down the 5-feat Whirlwind Attack route. He'll follow it up with Trip and Greater Trip at 6th level. Hubert wears Spiked Armor, wields a Polearm, and intends to freely chug Enlarge Person potions.
Hubert's 6th level attack sequence will try to use Whirlwind Attack to Greater Trip every foe on the field of battle. With his high CMB most of these attacks will succeed. End result is that most foes will fall prone and provoke an AoO from anyone who threatens, including Hubert. Much hilarity ensues.
Problem: This all takes too many feats, even for a single classed human fighter. This build wants ten feats, in total. Single feats are Combat Reflexes, Power Attack, and Lunge (BaB 6+). Five-feat sequence is Combat Expertise (feat tax), Dodge(feat tax), Mobility(feat tax), Spring Attack(feat tax), then Whirlwind Attack (finally!). Two-feat sequence is Improved Trip then Greater Trip (BaB 6+).
Question: In what order should Hubert take these feats? he can't have them all until 8th level, which is approaching retirement. If he concentrates on Whirlwind Attack he can get that at 3rd level. But he's a reach build, so Combat Reflexes is invaluable. Power Attack is valuable, too. The Greater Trip sequence will be near last. Suggestions? Other ideas?

Perhaps Hubert should consider dipping into Monk for one or two levels for more bonus feats to work towards whirlwind attack.

Grappling doesn't have a size limitation. Your only downside for a small character is -1 to CMB and CMD.
Core only is the real problem there.

Remember that larger creatures get a bonus to their CMB and CMD so the small creature is at a disadvantage against them. I believe that's what people are talking about.
