It might be easier to use if we could login while on the forums page. I keep the Latest Posts bookmarked, and it's not immediately apparent when you're not logged in, and therefore only seeing the public stuff.

Yes, ease of navigation is a major driver for me. I must admit, I haven't even looked at the GW forums in weeks since it didn't sound like any modifications would be coming for some time there.
EDIT: Also, I'm unsure where certain topics would go. If I wanted to start a thread for Trade with the Keepers of the Circle, Recruitment doesn't seem right, nor does Community.

What would be nice is for GW to have a full featured website, at least equal to the Paizo forums if not better. It would be nice if it could also come up on filters as either a nun gaming site or a publishing site (to avoid most business / government proxy filters).
Honestly GW, spend $20 a month and put up something we will want to use

I never noticed the Latest Posts link down at the bottom before. Thx for mentioning. Its not much but better than the hunt and peck I was doing by checking all the subforums one by one.

Thanks Bonny.
I do hope that the GW forum-tree will be cleaned up though: it is a regular mess, with way too many subforums in some sections, often overlapping in what they should be used for.
Also, the forums are very lacking in usefulnes right now: at the least you must be able to see at a glance who posted last in a thread, and who is the OP of a thread.
Amongst many other features, like being able to PM and such. And an ignore feature. Easy quoting, easy linking, easy bullets lists, that can be done with buttons! (and not by having to do [url=blabla yourself. ;)
I probably should stay out of this thread, since I never understood why forums in this day and age have to be so clunky and basic.
I understand that the forums will be integrated into the greater "whole" that is PFO and GW, including login procedures, an eye for safety, and custom-made meta-gaming tools in the future that tie into the game; but can't we have tidy forums with at least some functionality?
I also should not post so early in the morning!
So I will end with, thanks Bonny, I am glad we will be able to create our own community now.:)

Why would the main boards use our actual account name as our posting name?
It's linked to your account. It's how they were able to restrict who could use it based on what access they had to the game. Default will be your account name. If you feel uncomfortable with that you can access your account profile and change your forum display name.

I tend to be very supportive of Goblinsworks and appreciate the hard work that you all do.
But I won't move
Reasons:
1) There is no search functionality
2) I don't know which post I read and which I haven't
3) It takes me at least double the time - my time that I could use gaming or doing other stuff - to stay up to date with the GW forum
4) The important posters I like to read post more here*
Bottom line - the user experience does count. The GW forum 'does work' - so is the Auction House. So please let me know when the forum reached OE status and I will move over. Until then I stay here.
*Off course this is what you like to change

There does need to be a "anonifying factor" in the boards. THere are still, a few, who will target those posting unpopular ideas. GW does need to know who posts what. Players should not, but can complain about edgy posts.
Until GW forum has Pazio functions, players will use Paizo. Why <sorry I used term which is not PC to indicate less than ideal> posts be placed on the forum.

Shutting these forums would merely chase us to a forum they have no control over.
Then we would only visit GW forums for a dev answer or with crowd-forging suggestions, and everything else we do here (culture, politics, propaganda, role play, asking and answering questions, etc.) would be at the user friendly site.
Do we ALREADY need a Kugutsumen?

Most of ^ that. And a section under Community Arena with the settlements as sticky topics for us to use as a town board. This would really help the time zone split players and the almost ghost towns, along with game communication in general.
Or...keep having to police the Help chat all day. :)
What can I say...tavern boards are my polished grass.

I tend to agree with the general sentiment, especially since we have the Paizo forums. I say get the GW forums up to par, and then lets move over there. What is up to par? Start a thread, crowdforge :)
Par is at least the same functionality that we have here, and not one feature less. If we wait for them to Crowdforger it, they will be satisfied with leaving us with the half assed Goblin Works forums as they stand now.

Granted things over at goblinworks.com forums are not up to the level of functionality that I would want... Its not high on our list of things to complete. We do need a search and various other features that I am pushing for. Right now we are focusing on actual game fix's and will be getting to the website and forums "hopefully" soon! In any regard, the forums have separation for a reason. Its so new players are able to find what they are looking for instead of scrolling through 100's of posts just to find one thing about a wizard. If you want to find something about a Wizard, then go to that section. If you are finding that information is all over the place... then stop posting in the wrong sections. No one should be posting in news and announcements at all. That is for the GW Staff to let you guys know important updates and info. Unfortunately I don't have the functionality to turn off new topics to the masses. Right now, the forums are a minimal viable product that is our new home. We are going to be phasing these message boards out and will eventually not post here anymore. If you are wanting to get any responses from the dev's or others here at GW then the GW Forums is where you will need to be. We don't have the man power or the time to moderate two separate forums. I will try to find out how long these will stay open and hopefully get the other forums up to par with some of your standards and let you all know. In the mean time feel free to post where you are comfortable. Just remember... its not for long...

The structure of the Goblinworks forum is better -as there is only a single one here.
Unfortunately this is where it stops. I don't agree that is easier to find something. The day I posted my unwillingness to move was after I looked for a thread that
a) I knew existed
b) I knew had content from Caldeathe
c) That was about drop rates
d) That Caldeathe had posted in recently
...
z) That I couldn't find - I gave up after 10 minutes
I understand that it is a pain for GW to have to browse these boards - but in this respect I'm selfish and don't trade your pain for my pain.

We are working on getting a search feature put it. Im not saying this is the final product at all! But There is only one person moderating and a whole bunch of dev's who want to respond to you guys. We can't have it both ways. :)
If you were trying to find something about drop rates... what section where you looking in. Would you all like to input a section I am missing to make things a bit easier to find until we get the search.. However, I am not going to condense things into one long list like here. If you want one long list, then you can click the view all postings...

I've always been of the mind that having nothing is better than having a low grade version place holder with a promise of "it will get better later".
I know that is part and parcel of this whole design process but I'm still going to give voice to my wants of things that I think just aren't up to par. (I'll leave the elephant standing in the corner, I'm sure I've already become known for my vocal outcry for the feature I think is lacking most.)
That said the form of the goblinworks forums are better, they are just missing some features many still expect to have. Searching, PMs, and I would add liking of posts.

Yes:
General Information\General
General Information\Trade
General Information\Escalations
General Information\Settlement Infrastructure
General information\POI & Outposts
Roles\Experts
Roles\Freeholder
Production Skills\PVE or Production Skills\Adventurers
Currently, there are no real good places for threads on those topics anywhere in the current forum structure.

There isn't even an area just for chat and banter or politics.
Bonny - check the last 25 threads here and see if you will fit a single place for them or not. If you fail for more then 5 it is bad - if you fail for 10 or more then it is non acceptable.
There isn't only the problem of threads not fitting - but thread spanning more then one area as well.
There is also no way to tell what I have read and what I haven't. I clicked too often on threads where I was the last poster.
This is basics. Ryan said he was looking for pioneers to crowdforge the game. I didn't sign up to pioneer a message board.
And you are not the only one who has difficulty moving people. Can't get my own members either to move to our company boards. The interesting stuff happens here - so after a while I come back here and leave my own board empty.
Thod Goblin Squad Member |
Okay - just have it open:
a) no search
b) you don't know who posted last
c) you don't know if you read the thread
d) you don't know if there is a new post since you read the thread
e) you don't know if you are in the right section
Some of it might make it easier for a first time visitor - but the list above is for the frequent user who hangs out there and tries to stay up to date with the politics and development.
You either must have better tools internal - or I can't see how us moving actually is beneficial for you.

And you are all correct, these are features that have been requested and its just a matter of when they get completed. Even on the Dev side there are things they would like as well. I've got them all in a list and they will be completed in the order of importance with everything else in the queue. <3

Karlbob, you are incessantly affable. Please stop, it makes it difficult for me to feel ok being a jerk.
I wouldn't say "incessantly", but I'll try.
In this case, I suspect that Bonny's acting more as the messenger than the decision maker, so "being a jerk" to her wouldn't accomplish much.

- Caldeathe discovered the search-code for posters on the Goblinworks forums a while back:
https://goblinworks.com/forum/users/Ryan%20Dancey/posts/
Just substitute the name of the poster you're looking for.
- You know you have un-read posts in the thread when it's bold-faced, and you can click on the arrow at the right of the thread-name to take you to the first un-read post
- At the bottom of the forums' main page, click on "Last updates in topics", and you'll go to one page that has all the threads where you've not read something

This post is much more convincing as the please move posts from Bonny. If it's dreadful then there seem to be at least some workarounds available.
