Copy of PFO Wiki - Official Data

Spear - The quickest way to someone's heart, and the person's behind them too.
Great at causing huge amounts of damage to a single target but the AoE is nearly useless as AoE and has very weak control to keep targets around if they don't want to be. A 4m range helps. Terrific at small group burst damage or being a team's finisher.

Puncture - a great basic attack with strong damage for the stamina and relatively fast speed for a large weapon. The DoT helps in extended fights or with runners.
Transfix - the best of miserable control options (better than nothing?), makes your target a little slower if they try to get away but a relatively high stamina per slow cost limits its spammability. The 4m range is a big help applying this on the chase.
Impale - a streak AoE that only affects a narrow 4m line straight in front of you if you can get enemies to line up like ducks. Still it has high damage with a small attack and defense bonus penalty. Good for an opening shock and finishing with Punctures.
Stab-Skewer a highly efficient chain that applies two big DoTs. Great on high hp targets and runners.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Follow-up:

Combat Rotation (Solo)
1-Penetrate
2-Spike
3-Stab
4-Impale
5-Gore
6-Skewer (Keyed of Stab)

Critical Search (Self): Slowed, Distressed, Frightened

Critical Feats Recommended: (pending)

Combat Rotation (Party)
1-Penetrate
2-Puncture
3-Stab
4-Transfix
5-Gore
6-Skewer (Keyed of Stab)

Critical Search (Self): Bleeding, Distressed
Critical Search (Party): Bleeding (Opportunity), Slowed + Knockdown (Unbalanced), Bleeding + Afflicted (Distressed)
Critical Feats Recommended: (pending)

Initial Thoughts: A good reach melee weapon for solo play and for secondary combatants (like Experts and Freeholders) going after high priority targets or those getting away (due to the ability to charge).

Weapon Priority: Medium

I really longs for the Trident to come around, it is Hanspurs holy weapon!

I think it's pretty rude to copy Proxima's guide text verbatim without explicitly acknowledging the quote. "I used this guide as a reference" is not at all the same thing as "I copied this text word for word".

Goblin Squad Member

More likely an innocent mistake in failing to use quote tags than any intentional attempt to pass the work off as his own.

Yup. Since I didn't actually quote from the thread, but from a "copy and paste" from a word document, I couldn't figure out how the make that little box that says "someone wrote this" show up. I'll figure it out and use it on the next weapon entries.

Thank you. :)

Now what you really want to see is a dwarf attacking an ogre with a spear, like I saw last night. Watching him lunge forward to attack, that poor ogre had so many holes in his ankles and shins it was hilarious! Need an upthrusting spear maneuver, so all us men can groan in sympathy watching a dwarf stab an ogre in the .... :-)

I think being an orc is pretty rude. No guide needed.

Aren't orcs a species?

Well technically they are a sub-type of humanoid. I am not sure if they count as a species in itself or whether the species are actually things like Black Orc and Common Orc.

Goblin Squad Member

If half-orcs can breed, there is debatable if Orc and Humans are different species. OTH the current system of "speciesism" is a bit murky and in free fall anyway.

We have to set up and experiment....

Goblin Squad Member

Well horses and donkeys as well as lions and tigers can breed so it isn't unique to fantasy that different species can make mixed babies.

Goblin Squad Member

Schedim is half-goblin, half-halfling, right? No?

Goblin Squad Member

Goblins and Halflings are the same, it is just the food that differs....

Yupp but the offspring cant breed further, so this is an example of what I mean with the need of experimenting with Half-orc breeding ...

I think you need to check your taxonomy. If Orcs aren't a species, I'm pretty sure that different types of Orcs can't be separate species.

Hey! I was only offering the tape as an alternative, not actually applying it.

It's not my fault if you lack the agility and smarts to handle a roll of tape without injuring yourself.

Bloody goblins

I used a steel spear with my DT fighter yesterday (less than an hour, had to go to work), and I enjoyed it greatly. It has a nice heft to it and does high damage. I killed my second ogre laout with the spear and I had a lot more HP left over then when I killed one with a mace.

Combat is a bit slower thou , I realy need to pace myself.

1, wait, 2, wait, 3, wait, check if 4-6 turns green [if yes press #, if no start again at 1],
Is enemy dead [if yes select new target, if no start again at 1].

Spear attacks burn threw the blue bar fast! Need to figure out how to get more of it...

Anyone else has tips/tactics to share? I believe Sspitfire1 is an avid spear user. :)

Fill some of that initial wait, wait, wait, with longbow and you'll replicate my alpha methodology.

A horse and a donkey can produce offspring. The product is a mule. A mule and a horse can't produce offspring. A mule and a donkey can't produce offspring. A mule and another mule can't produce offspring.

The paragraph above is generally taken to mean that horses and donkeys are two separate species, and mules are not a species.

A Labrador retriever and a poodle can produce offspring. The product is (unfortunately, imho) called a 'labradoodle'. A labradoodle and a Labrador retriever can produce offspring. A labradoodle and a poodle can produce offspring. Two labradoodles can produce offspring.

The paragraph above is generally taken to mean that Labrador retrievers, poodles, and labradoodles are all members of the same species (Canis lupus familiaris).

So, following the same logic, if a half-orc can produce offspring with a human, an orc, and/or another half-orc, then you could make a pretty good case that orcs and humans belong to the same species.

In strict scientific usage, 'species-hood' isn't quite this simple, but I think it's a pretty good working theory for fantasy race crossbreed discussions.

Edit: In my tabletop Skull & Shackles game, there's a male goblin who's working pretty hard to test this theory with humans, elves, and pretty much any other females who will participate in the experiments.

But dwarves... only one source I've ever seen implies that dwarves can breed outside the folk and that was the weirdness that was Dark Sun.

Scarab Sages Goblin Squad Member

Dark Sun went against the grain of traditional fantasy in lots of ways. It was a neat setting.

And it lives again: Dragon Kings is an indy project by the same author.

While humorous, I did find a spear to be very effective when fighting ogres. I could do big damage spikes at a time, and my attacks where seldom interrupted. But I learned not to fight them at range. They throw invisible rocks that do more damage than the big clubs they wield.

A marital guide which discusses polearms. This can't fail to be a best seller.

"If thine wife aggrieve thee, simply impale her upon thy longspear."

(Actually, that's pretty good advice...)

Given Proxima's Sin wild and chaotic writing style, personality and fascination with pointy sticks, yeah I would wager it will be a great hit. Once we get writing into the game, I will pay top gold to get my hands on any first edition copy; it will be a collectors item! :)
