PFS, Aasimar, Force Channel - help requested

Advice

Ok, I have an Aasimar cleric in PFS that now has enough XP to advance to 2nd level. But I’m really not happy with the build as I’ve spent more time thinking about it.

I want to specialize in channeling against undead or evil outsiders. I think the Life mystery is the only way to get channel positive energy as an oracle. So that sets the mystery.
When there are no outsiders or undead, use channel for piles of healing. Spells would mostly be group buffs (bless, prayer, communal X) and maybe a few battlefield control, attack, and utility.

I’m thinking Peri blooded. Since I like pyrotechnics and the intelligence would give a bit more skill points.

Take the channel positive energy as the 1st level revelation.

Favored Class Bonus: +1/2 level to the channel revelation

I’m thinking about the Spirit Guide (ACG) archtype. The wandering spirit ability would allow me to do a fair amount of customizing to meet the day's needs.

Curse: not sure (would prefer not haunted or tongues since I've already done that)

Str: 7, Dex: 10, Con: 14, Int: 14(12+2), Wis: 10, Cha 20(18+2)

1 channel 1d6, feat: selective channel, revelation: channel positive energy,
2 channel 2d6
3 feat: force channel, wandering spirit guide (as a shaman) usually heavens, hex: heaven’s leap
4 channel 3d6, bonded spirits spells to known list
5 channel 4d6, feat: improved force channel
6 channel 5d6
7 feat: channel vs alignment (evil), spirit ability: stardust
8 channel 6d6
9 channel 7d6. feat: greater force channel
10 channel 8d6
11 feat: quicken channel, revelation: life link

Suggestion, problems, or opinions?

Why not just go witch?

The witch will give you more versatility and 9th levels of spells (many taken from the Cleric/Oracle list). Specializing against undead is one thing but a good number of PFS scenarios do not include undead. Unless you really like to play the support roll, I recommend you find a more offensive plan b, imho.

Witches can do a bit of everything. They can make excellent healers with the Healing Hex and the Accursed Hex feat - that's two free heals per party member for every game. Plus, you can also use that against the undead.

Combine that with Crackle, Fortune, and Scar, your party will love you. As a human, you can have all of that at around level 3, giving you plenty of room to focus on other things at the mid to high levels.

Mainly because I'm trying to see what can be done with the Aasimar force channeling feats.

However, since I will have a high casting stat, I was considering going for attack spells rather than buff spells. Not sure.

Grand Lodge

Are you aware that the Aasimar race is now banned in PFS, unless you already accumulated a certain amount of XP before the ban started? You're probably fine, but best check that.

Are you a Cleric, an Oracle, or a Shaman?

What's the purpose of having CHA 20? Will be use spells with high DC, or is this mostly for Channel Force? How do you plan to handle foes who laugh at your paltry channel damage? You could use your Force Channel to feed AoOs to your party ... is that your plan?

I think Greater Channel Force is a bit useless. You can probably get any groups you want in the cone from the Improved version just fine. I'd drop it in favor of Extra Channel or Improved Channel.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

What about a "living battery" build - a character that takes someone's life force and directs it to heal allies and hinder foes?

This would be a duel-cursed oracle with the Life and Battle mysteries.

Channel, Life Link, and Combat Healer would all give you plenty of healing potential.

For offense, focus on Bull Rush and related feats. Use Maneuver Mastery to get full BAB for bull rushing in melee and the force channel feats to get the same effect as a nova.

Max CHA and STR. For 1st level, take either Extra Revelation or Noble Scion. Power Attack at 3rd and Imp Bull Rush at 5th. After that, start focusing on your channel feats. Extra Channel is almost a must because Oracles get fewer channel attempts.

To play an Aasimar you only had to have 1 xp before the cut off date and I do.

Oracle with the life mystery. I must have edited that out.

The 20 Cha was mainly for the channeling. But since I got it, I may as well use it for some attack spells. Not yet sure which type though.

I don't really consider 8d6 plus throw 20 feet on a move action paltry. But also a full caster if that is not enough or the target is not effected.

I think you are correct, I will drop Greater Force Channel and move the Quick Channel earlier. Then either of the 2 you suggested based on whether I seem to be running out of channels or the target makes the save.

Healing is definitely a tertiary focus for this guy. Dual cursed doesn't give you 2 mysteries. Just 2 curses.
