Fever Sea - Where do all these ships come from?

Skull & Shackles

I have not read much about Golarion in general, so I need some help rationalizing Event 7 from Raiders of the Fever Sea. What are all these Chelish, Rahadoumi and other merchant ships doing in the Fever Sea? Trade routes? Is there something about the Eye of Abendego that attracts ships from such northern kingdoms/empires? Or are the new pirates expected to head up to the Arcadian Ocean to raid? Any advice would be appreciated.

Silver Crusade

Trade routes to Sargava as well as other southern nations of Garund. They usually travel around the eye and past the shackles which is where pirates attack. Some traders go though the shackles but this is a very rare thing.

Sargava, due to the samcro deal they have with shackles makes their ships immune to depredations, I recommend researching garund in ISWG:)

Sovereign Court

Ships of the Inner Sea has a whole section on maritime shipping lanes / trade routes

samcro?

Its from Sons of Anarchy:)
not sure what the acronym means but its for the Sons of Anarchy:)
awesome show just started it 2 weeks ago:)

Silver Crusade

Sargava ships yes, but ships trading to Sargava that aren't Sarganian. Tough luck it seems.

Very true but you didnt specify that or mention the shackles deal:)
hence my poorly edited addition:)

g%&!!&n dyslexia! it should've said "Due to the deal Sargava made with Samcro... i mean The Shackles, their ships are immune to their depredations" s~!#ty editing on my part:)

I just told my players that if they wanted to hit ships they needed to leave the Shackles proper and sail out to where there are ships.

Historically in the real world, pirates based in the Caribbean sailed north to harry ships all along the American East coast. Also, if you placed a map of the Shackles over top a map of the Caribbean at the same scale the former would occupy a small corner of the latter. If we're playing the Age of Sail, those ships will have no trouble at all going north of the Arch of Aroden looking for ships.

Thanks everyone for the posts; that gives me plenty to work with, and material to look for. I love the SAMCRO reference (meaning Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original). Great, but tragic series.
I love this AP so far; it gives you a lot of material to work with, and keeps it fairly open for the players to make their own decisions.

There was a thread about this back in 2012...

- Trade from and to Sargava not under the Sargavan flag (and the Garundian nations further to the south)

- trade to and forth from Bloodcove

more possibilities (GM might need to elaborate)
- trade with some undersea realms who trade surface goods for subsurface goods (hard for aquatic elves to forger any metal down there) going through local ports
- should a higher population exist inside the Shackles it might be a good place to grow sugarcane tobacco and other "carribean" produce
- trade through and over the western sea to Atzlan and the lands beyond
- trade around the southern cape/end of Garund coming north
- whalers using the shackles waters as hunting grounds

But overall : the Shackles as pre-written unfortunately make little sense as the base for pirates riding the trade routes.

Its also stated or heavily implied that established pirates raid north of the Eye and then sail back south past it for cover. Although for the AP, it suggests that the PCs stay south of the Shackles.

There's also Senghor, a metropolis on the edge of the Mwangi Expanse. It's a strong trade hub for the region and one that tacitly sanctions piracy so long as it's not within its waters.

The Mwangi Expanse, through Bloodcove and Senghor, exports a wide variety of exotic goods to the Inner Sea region and Avistan. It's mostly art, hardwoods, and other goods ripped from the heart of the jungles by exploitative traders using slaves as hard labor. The northern kingdoms have an near-endless appetite for Mwangi goods, which leads enterprising traders to chance the pirate-laden waters in search of profit.

Sargava, similarly, seeks to maintain its independence through trade, though their position is not as strong or established.

I would highly encourage you to check out Heart of the Jungle and Sargava: The Lost Colony for more information on the surrounding area.

And here I thought he meant Sam Crow, who was a seaman before becoming famous.

Wikipedia also mentions Sam Crow, the baseball player.

Got my Crows mixed up.

Jim Crow

My history lessons did take.
