Hello, I'm currently running a campaign with a player that chose the Aegis class from the Dreamscarred Press Psionics books. He is easily outperforming all of the other party members in combat. It feels like that class gets way too many benefits for not enough downsides to me, especially the strength bonuses that come from the armor. But I could be wrong, I'm still pretty new to DMing. Any opinions / advice on this are welcome.

It's not a full caster. So no.
EDIT: I realize this could have been taken as a lot more snarky than it was intended to be. I suggest you compare it to some of the magus or melee druid builds you can find in the guides on Paizo or Broken Zenith's site. If you're comparing it to fighter or ranger, it can easily seem better, because to be fair it's almost completely better than fighter, and because ranger is fairly non-intuitive to optimize.
The difference could also be in the relative experience and optimization of the players. Are they all of the same relative experience and degree of optimization?

Aegis shouldn't outperform most of the others. It would be a very odd case, but well with little information of what's going on, hard to tell. Like maybe the Aegis is just fighting enemies that are easy for him to fight? While , not always the cause of the problem, double checking the rules is sometime a good idea.

No.
The issue is that people who tend to play 3rd party classes tend to be invested enough in the game to have a fair amount of system mastery.
It is highly likely that he just built his character better than everyone else. If everyone else was playing stronger classes like CRB druid or CRB wizard, he would not seem nearly so dominant.
EDIT: The aegis will also look better in gear starved parties, which new GMs tend to do. His strength bonus from armor does not stack with other gear since it is the same kind of bonus.

Aegis is a powerful class, but no more or less powerful than an equivalently optimized Barbarian, or other such classes.
It has more utility, but less raw combat ability than most Full BaB classes.
Larger size and Reach is a solid benefit, but the Strength (and other stat) bonuses are no larger than can be obtained from an equivalent stat Belt, and does not stack with such (both are Enhancement bonuses, which don't stack).
