Finding group members on the map and minimap

Pathfinder Online

In grouping I've found it difficult to link up with my mates when we get separated (or when I join before reaching them).

I'm curious if we should have party members show up on the world map as well as having them be easier to find on the mini-map.

I'm sure my company will be able to cope with the issue even under the current map system, as we learn the lay of the land and can describe on voice-comms where we are, but I worry it could be frustrating for new players.

Discuss.

The map is brutal. I wish my icon would even stick on the full map page after more than 15 minutes without having to relog.

Really, a simple yellow arrow pointing in their direction when you hover their name in group would be helpful because we don't have a good native mapping lexicon and language yet.

I know there are a number of PvP-game "old hats" who think it's better if party members don't show up on the main map. Personally, I'd prefer they did, but I don't have a lot of experience with the potential downsides of that.

I somewhat like the fact that group members and their pins only track on the mini map. I mean how would you KNOW your companion is two hexes East of you? When we get lost we just mouse over our minimap icons and locate each other by our TK coordinates.

There's an argument that any player with a week in game can probably narrow his location down to a fraction of a hex (I'm at 6 o'clock in hex -01.04, 1/3 the way out from center). Since it's pretty easy for us to figure out our own location, and trivially easy to use voice-chat to report it to our party... It might stand to reason that the game should do that for us, and we can focus on the fun parts.

The user interface needs to facilitate player interactivity and make it easy to group up and collaborate as much as possible.

"Realism" (what is that anyway in a game where you can never die and can cast spells) should always be second to play-ability.

Catering to "hard core" people is a short route to critical failure, IMHO, use Wild Star as an example.

I think the company system in proper will help this as part and parcel of a whole UI overhaul they'll have to do sometime in q2 I assume.

My kingdom for getting people to display company of city affiliation as they run around.

I think same time isn't necessary. With the ability to only see names legibly within combat range anyway, the attack is most likely already underway.
