The good news is they would have had to renew that copyright for the last 2500 years, so we're all good!

Or, they could decide that 'public domain' means 'owned by the government' and take control of the copyright in perpetuity as PEI did with Anne of Green Gables.

Oh, wonderful throwing weapon. You are tightly written, evocative, and well formatted.

Keep pile for you! One of very few weapons as well, nicely done!

Ahhh Sword that is the bane of my existence... Why do you keep coming back to haunt me? You are not a good, well thought out item and I down vote you every time. Why must I continue to see you?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, I have probably a half dozen or so characters that would. Just because you have self-respect doesn't mean you're not out of your freaking mind.

A lot of "I can hit farther than my normal reach" items. But honestly we see quite a few of those each year. I think it is just to address the melee vs ranged disparity.

Just voted for an item with completely wrong formatting over a decent item with perfect formatting.

The non-formatted item was actually excellent. Just shows the exception that in my opinion proves the rule.

Oh wow. I keep thinking that references to joke items may be talking about mine since it is a little humorous, but then I see one like this and realize I'm mostly in the clear. And gross out humor is the lowest form.

And the item it is paired with is humorously ironic.

Alright so I have a question I am hoping the forum can answer for me.

Was there a recent movie, TV show, sci-fi novel or comic book that had a weapon that was able to create dimension doors? I was trying to figure out why there were so many items this year that looked at that design space.

Thank you, but I think not.

I was freelancing at the time, which means that I was set on creating perfectly publishable items, spells and other things. RPG Superstar requires a different setting, minds need to be blown. My item is too subtle and understated compared to some other competing entries.

But, if I am wrong, I won't mind ;>

I originally attributed it to the Portal video games, but now I'm thinking it had to be Blink's sequences in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Very similar to an item from a 3e splatbook vs. "My momma said I could be anything... so I want to be everything!"

I gotta say, voting has given me a lot of appreciation for the work of a slush editor, and also insight into the way the process works, since a lot of what we are doing kind of mimics that gate-keeping process-- deciding what's good enough to be REALLY looked at, etc (even if I think the RPGSS judges do look at least once at everything?).

To a lot of newbie writers, the idea that your submission can, and usually will, be rejected for something like 'failing to follow manuscript format' is disheartening and seems cruel-- 'if they would only look past that to see how awesome my story is behind that superficial detail!'. But once you've been on the other end of looking at hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of submissions, you simply don't have the time and energy to give the people who DON'T follow directions that extra effort to hunt for the awesome that may or may not be contained within their story. It's simply a math question, where the goal is to process as many submissions as you can as quickly and fairly as you can, and people who messed up on one thing are, statistically, more likely to have messed up on other things. It's a reality of the business.

(And no, I'm not saying I downvote for every missed bold tag, and sometimes I DO see the awesome in an item with many glaring errors-- this is really just meant more as general observation on the way the publishing industry functions, as a necessity, than on RPGSS in particular.)

Man, I love dimension door swords, and disarming shields. They are both great ideas. I vote them up all the time, because they are cool. I trust the judges to find the best sword or shield. There's a lot of talent in those dimension swords. I like reading some of them. I hate some others. There. I'm negative.

Heh heh heh. I would totally buy that item and risk terrible death to use it just for the reaction.

Marathon Voter Season 8

Ranged healing vs. ranged healing

And both are really good items. One is a lot cheaper and can be used by almost everyone, but the other has a better style, theme and formatting.

I guess the choice to go with an extreme niche counts against the item.

Shadow Lodge Dedicated Voter Season 8

Wow. I really like that Wondrous Item weapon. Too bad it's a Wondrous Item. That could have been Top 32, last year.
