My curiosity was pecking, wondering how many total entries there were.
But I wasn't sure if we were allowed to ask, or get an answer for such a question. Or at the very lest, if it can be answered just yet.
Also, I'd be curious to see a breakdown of how many of what type is submitted, maybe after all the voting is over. like:
Swords: #XX
Axes: #XX
Shields: #XX
etc etc etc...
The folks who spreadsheet it all up can likely answer (pretty closely) that for us in a few weeks. And by that I mean non-paizo people, but voters like you and me!
Well you can ask (there are no rules saying asking is not allowed)... but if history is any indication no official answer will be forthcoming... although there is a pretty good chance that by the time voting ends somebody will have figured out roughly how many entries there were.
If it's practically linear growth from the last few years, we're probably looking at around 2300 entries, of which probably 2100 aren't DQable.
Source: None, but it feels right, y'know?
2300? Didn't we have like 1000 last year?
I definitely expect fewer entries this year. The deadline was very short, no doubt caught some people off guard.

IIRC, last year actually had fewer entries than the year before, according to the maths.

To answer David's question: Yes, you are allowed to ask. But no, we are not allowed to answer that question. :-D
I can ask Owen if it's ok to post the percentages for each magic item category (staves, rods, rings... wondrous items...)

I see what you did there.

James Risner wrote: 2109 votes
496 unique items I've seen since cull
503 suspected items in the database
Someone should throw us a bone and let us know the exact number in the DB so we know the 503 is correct. ;-)
here is a LINK to the thread where the claim was made.
Huh, okay. Weird. Guess I have a memory like a sieve.
well I suspect that Mr. Risner's guess was a bit low, but even increasing it by say 20%, we still end up with fewer than 1000 precull entries.
Thanks, cwslyclgh. I'd never have found that thread! :)

I don't know that we release exactly how many entries we get. "Hundreds" is certainly a safe reply, given how amazingly broad a range it covers. "More than I expected, under the circumstances" is also accurate.
The judges won't be sharing our privileged knowledge about the exact number of entries or what percentages each type of item got. However, I have no issue with fans compiling lists during the voting process and using them to form educated approximations, as they have in years past.

You may ask any question you like, but you should not hold your breath in the hopes of a direct and specific answer. :-) Definitely by the end we'll have a vague sense of what the "it" item was this year.
4 mins old and I can't find the vote link or it isn't live yet.
I am never going to make Marathon again at this rate...
Yes, I don't see a Vote Here! tab...
I'm worried. I'm only seeing Wondrous Items. Was this year Wondrous or non-Wondrous?
I got two wondrous items on my first vote screen, too. Probably a coincidence.
On a ten-hour road trip, just stopped for a large lunch (well, mainly to vote. My first pairing, you ask? Wondrous Item vs. Wondrous Item.
Ok, I just confirmed all my Wondrous items were from last year.
There is a hiccup that results in many folks getting items from last year as their first pairing. It doesn't affect voting, and shouldn't last after your first vote or two.
