I am new to using the tools, so I am not sure if I am seeing everything or not.
However, after I updated, I still see the default alias option and the blacklist X's. That is all I saw before, so it appears to be functioning the same way.
I am not entirely sure what the "3 columns" thing is supposed to be.
I am using Firefox, BTW.

My tools quit working as of the update. Nothing is done, no 3 columns, no hi-lighting, nothing.
Uh oh! I'll look into it today. :) Could you tell me what version of which browser you're using?

mdt is referring to the Auto-Arranger, which rearranges your Campaigns page to be more aesthetically pleasing.
Where is the default alias option? I never see that on Chrome.
If you navigate to chrome://extensions, you'll see a little "Options" link underneath the listing for this extension. Clicking that will let you customize the Paizo Campaign Tools extension behavior.

Thank you, but I don't actually see the ability to change my default alias. Is it "Auto-select Alias?"
Checking that box will enable the feature, and you'll see a little icon to the right of the "Post As" box when you post in one of your campaign threads. The extension will take a guess at your preferred alias based on information from your Campaigns page, but if you want to change it, all you have to do is select the alias you want and then click the little person icon to the right of the "Post As" box.
Let me know if you experience any issues.

mdt, any console errors when you visit your Campaigns page or a campaign thread? Are you running any other extensions?
Checking for console errors: right-click the page and click "Inspect" (or on Windows, press F12), then click on the "Console" tab. Any red text is an error; please copy and PM to me.

News (2.4.2)
Just released 2.4.2; it's available now for Chrome, and is currently undergoing review for Firefox, but should be available soon. Three bugs were squished in this release:
- Using your root user as the GM of a campaign no longer breaks the Campaigns page parsing (mdt's issue, introduced in 2.4.0)
- Userless campaigns no longer break Campaigns page parsing (Twistlok's issue)
- Couple of minor issues with code tags and newlines are now fixed

How do you determine the "Needs to Post" Indicator on/off/color? No code, just high level logic please (been out of the coding business for years!).
-- david
Right now it's pretty basic:
If there are unread posts ("x new"), it sets itself to "on" (active color). If you post in an active campaign, it turns off. And of course you can click to toggle it manually.
Does that help?

Really liking the add-on. It really makes my experience on the forums much better.
If only I could get a push notification when new posts are ready... (I know this is out of the realm of a browser add-on).
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Some kind of "live" notification of new posts is on my list of things I'd like to add, too... I've got a few ideas kicking around in my head of how to do it, it's just one of those things I haven't had time to really explore. :)

Just dropping in here and out-of-topic, but if you are using firefox (guess chrome has something similar) you can 'subscribe' to the relevant thread (gameplay/discussion/whatever). It's a small orange icon (like three quarter-circle - or like some wlan icon) in the upper right corner of each page.
Let's your browser check for new entries (=posts) on the respective page regularly. There are even browser plugins that will allow you to change that behavior (like the intervals of the checks - I set mine to 10 minutes). If a new post appears, you'll get a notification banner on your pc (depending on the OS). In addition you can add the notification-bookmark to your bookmark-row. It will turn orange (or whatever color you prefer if you have an addon) if you have missed a post will being away.
Works like a charm as long as you are on a pc. Mobile support is something else, sadly.
Anyway, that is how I do it and it works great.
As for the add-on I'm using: It's called LiveClick for firefox.
So long, happy gaming everyone.

Alas, I have an issue to report. I'm on Firefox 58.0.2 (64-bit), and the campaign tools extension can't seem to remember my campaigns across sessions. The sequence works something like this:
1) I start the browser.
2) I go to my Campaigns page.
3) I go to a specific campaign and set a default alias for that campaign.
4) Everything works great.
5) When done, I close the browser entirely.
And then the next time I start the browser, the extension has completely forgotten everything and I have to go through steps 1-4 all over again.
My complete list of installed extensions is as follows:
Adblock Plus
Cisco WebEx Extension
ColorZilla
HTML Validator
HTTP Header Live
Paizo Campaign Tools
Screengrab!
Web Developer
Lastly, is it storing campaign data in cookies? Because that could be a factor. On the Privacy and Security tab, I have it set to "Use Custom Settings" for history with the following settings:
[X] Accept cookies from web sites
Accept third-party cookies [From visited]
Keep until [I close Firefox]
Then I've used the "Exceptions" button to explicitly allow cookies from domains whose cookies I want to keep. Currently I have paizo.com whitelisted for both HTTP and HTTPS. If the campaign tools extension is storing data in a cookie from some other domain, let me know what that is -- I looked through the cookie data to see if I could find such a thing, but didn't find anything obvious.
Let me know if you need more information, or if I can do any debugging for you. I'm comfortable with cracking open an XPI and fiddling with code.

Your cookies setting is likely the issue... even though the extension doesn't use cookies. :)
I believe that Firefox lumps localStorage in with cookies for permissions purposes, and the extension does use localStorage. One easy way to test whether this is the issue would be to temporarily accept all cookies and see if it's able to remember your campaigns.
Let me know (either here or via PM) what you find, and we'll go from there. :)

Well, I can confirm that if I set it to the default privacy settings, i.e. accept everything and keep it forever, the extension works.
The only problem being that I don't want my browser to remember all that!
I spent some time poking around to see if I could locate the extension's data, in the hopes of finding some way to whitelist it as "keep this". But alas, I failed to find it at all. It doesn't appear in the developer console, and though I found several SQLite databases in my profile folder named things like localstorage.sqlite and so on, none of them contained any data from the extension. Do you know where it stores its bits?
Oladon |
Yep, didn't mean that as a solution, just a way to verify the issue.
I believe I have an actual solution for you.
First, navigate to about:config (reading and acknowledging the warning displayed). Type "uuid" into the search bar. You should see an entry labeled "extensions.webextensions.uuids". Copy the value of that and extract the UUID (value) from the "pct@mydomain.org" entry.
After that, set up your cookies such that you accept (and keep) cookies from the URL "moz-extension://UUID" (where UUID is the UUID you just copied). You should be good to go.
Incidentally, you can see what data is being stored by navigating to the moz-extension URL above and typing "localStorage" in the console.

Decided on giving the plugin a try, it's option panel keeps flickering.
I keep a number of add-ons/extensions on for additional security.
Mainly:
HTTPS Everywhere (Forces HTTPS connections to sites)
Ghostery (Filters out Bad scripts (requires minor configuring))
No Script (Filters out Bad scripts and Stops other Hacker exploits (requires configuring))
Now Since I access from a few Machines, the only one that does not seem to have a problem is the one with the big monitor where the plugin options are Not using scrollbars.
RHMG Animator |
Did a bit more testing and the systems with flickering control panel are also are not working.
Edit:

TO stop flickering have browser zoom out (using ctrl + mousewheel) to point where flickering stops in plugin preference.
Toggle a setting back and forth.
Then
Log out of Paizo and back in and then it'll start working.
Edit:
Using Mozilla Firefox, Quantum

For some reason, my ability to set a campaign default alias is not showing up at all, when it had been working in the past. I recently added the lastpass extension, but even when I disabled that extension and the problem persists. I am not sure exactly when this change happened I went several weeks without an online campaign.
EDIT: edited for clarity and additional info

I'm guessing that the constant updates by the Paizo team are making fixing this like shooting a moving target... while on a ship... in a hurricane...
... after someone cast 'Greater Invisibility' on the target.
I hope we'll see a more or less stable version soon, so Oladon gets a chance to fix this awesome add-on!

With a crossbow, while prone.
I've mostly been holding off on even trying to troubleshoot until they're done moving things around. With that said...
Progress Update
The good news is that I've identified part (maybe all) of the issue with the new site that's making the extension not work. The bad news is that I haven't yet decided the best way to get around the change and get the extension working again.
I appreciate everyone's support and patience during this process.
