Ezren is a Pathfinder. If you look on the cover of the PFS Primer, you will see he has a Wayfinder in his right hand. If we redo the pregens, I will make a note to include the Wayfinder in his equipment list.

cool, didn't catch that.

are any of the other pregen supposed to be cannonically Society members?

just looking to expand my knowledges

From what I recall, Ezren is the only iconic whose backstory connects him to the Pathfinder Society. In most stories, he's actually trying to become a Pathfinder by earning a field commission.

Yup, this is pretty much why I didn't put any wayfinders on those non-Ezren ACG pregens.

thanks for the info :)

For anyone who thinks buying a Wayfinder with gold is a given (if they don't wan't to spend PP), there's only a 75% chance that a city of Bloodcove's size would have one available.

The problem here is that while the versions of these characters from the novels and comics aren't Pathfinders, it doesn't make any sense for the versions presented as PFS pregens not to be. Every scenario they're being called up by a Venture Captain and sent on a mission on behalf of the Society, often a confidential or sensitive one. Heck, probably 75% of characters who go through "The Confirmation" are pregens, and the backstory to that is "you just spent three years in the Grand Lodge training to be a Pathfinder."

(There's also the fact that you otherwise can't play a character that isn't a Pathfinder - see the discussion around that Pride doodad from Shattered Star.)

Also, the PFS versions of the pregens are what we give new players to use - I feel they should work as examples of what Pathfinder characters should be like. This would include equipping all the level 4 and 7 pregens with wayfinders, even if this doesn't fit the stories of their alter-egos in the fiction.

Um, I play three characters that are not Pathfinders. One is a "civilian contractor", another just showed up one day long before the current crew was even born and now everyone just assumes he is, and he got tired of correcting them, and another "believes" himself to the be the child of Sarenrae and Ragathiel, a god/angel in training that thinks working with the Society is the best way to gain mortal experience and understanding before ascending to a higher realm.

I don't really have a problem with it, as long as the characters aren't constantly derailing things, reminding everyone how they're not part of the Society, demanding the Venture Captains justify the mission, etc. Basically just don't be the PFS person of the guy who feels the need to tell everyone he doesn't even own a television.

And of course they shouldn't have access to Wayfinders, or at least not at the reduced cost...

Played alongside redward mon nite. At least 3 of the 6 of us had wayfinders, I think 4 of us did.

was interesting at the end when redwards transmuter arcanist and my conjuror became cofused and I attacked him. we dueled the entire encounter.

Calling that a duel is pretty generous. One snowball took me from full health to -1.

Plus 1 attack from the small earth elemental.
If I hadnt used my shirt reroll and still failed the save throw I might have used it to reroll my to hit with the first or 2nd snowball to try for a crit. Lol.

At which point I'd say I'm not seeing anything mutually exclusive between what I said and what you said, (though I do wonder if you've had much experience with many "real" Pathfinder. :P) How does being a murderhobo and not officially being a murderhobo come into this at all?

Actually, all three characters bought "their" Wayfinder through non-discounter PP, so works out perfectly.

Guess the biggest problem I see with this is a party of all pre-generated characters can't do it. They have neither the wayfinder nor the means to purchase one.

That's not exactly a scenario to worry about. The only pregen who can't have one is Ezren. Shiela Heidmarch turned his membership request down due to his age.

I don't see any problem with purchasing a Wayfinder for 250 gp or 2 Prestige Points in Bloodcove, and even doing it on the downlow (thus not accumulating Awareness points).

(1) Bloodcove is a city of over 5,000 residents (Heart of the Jungle, p. 29).
(2) Reviewing the information under the "Where to Buy Gear," "Always Available Items," "Benefits of Fame," and "Spending Prestige Points" sections at pages 23 and 25 of the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play Version 6.0, I find that (a) settlements of Bloodcove's size are always assumed to have all "always available" items and have resident agents of each faction, and (b) Wayfinders are "always available."
(3) Agents of the factions presumably would not advertise that the Pathfinder had purchased anything at all from them, much less a Wayfinder.

Or, to sum up. Pathfinders buy items using gold or prestige from their factions, each faction is represented in Bloodcove, and Wayfinders are always available.

Now, I do have a number of other questions about this scenario (such as how Ungala qualifies for one of her feats in the 6-7 tier) but I'll list those after I've finished my prep for the session of this scenario (running it on the 20th).

Not sure if this got mentioned earlier in the thread, but if no one in the group has a wayfinder...

ZOMG! SPOILERS!:
I think it would be reasonable to assume that the lamp merchant would have a wayfinder, or at least access to one, that he could either sell or loan to the PCs (depending on the mood of the GM at the time) for the duration of the scenario.

It's not a perfect solution, but if you're playing and you get to that point, it's better than nothing.

My group did not have a way finder but we purchased a scroll of locate object, two charges. That is a way to beat the mission, you just have to get lucky and not have your stone closer. There were two more ways our gm suggested that were viable other options, one included some type of syrup. But you can indeed complete the mission without a way finder.

Silver Crusade 5/5 5/55/5 **** Venture-Captain, Germany—Bavaria

Really not a huge fan of that requirement, when I played it, my character had not purchased a wayfinder yet (dying tends to be a wallet draining exercise) and didn't plan on doing so any time soon.
Especially since she can cast light and has a pretty good survival skill check.
And frankly given the setup, I can understand every player who decides not to bring it.

Oh an that first message could have been a trap by the consortium... that name seemed a bit too on the nose. Maybe if the message had been "looking for a group of 4-7 cooperative individuals, to clean and assess the contents of my grandmothers cellar. Interested parties please apply at 4AM at the following location. "
