Need my Varian and Radovan fix.

Tales

So I've re-read all of their novels as well as the short stories. Anyone know if anything new is in the works? Seriously some of my favorite fantasy novels.

I'd love to read a prequel novel about how the two of them met.

Wow. Triple post! You must REALLY need a Varian Jeggare/ Radovan fix.

Last I knew, Dave Gross was working on a new novel. He hinted that it might include a metallic dragon.

I have no clue on what the timetable might be for the book, though.

Varian and Radovan will be back with significant fanfare this summer. :)

Dave's doing A Night at the Opera Golarion-style?

Which one of the boys is Groucho?

Did you read only the free short stories or the others too ? (I believe the AP journal is availalbe as a pdf short story?)

Buy the PDF short stories. You won't be sorry, and they give some context for events in King of Chaos

I guess it might be sliiiiightly unfair to gloat, but I just finished my sneak preview of the upcoming V&R novel and I think you guys are gonna love this one. It is REALLY good, it's really fun, and it's got some great background material and colorful details for at least two (two!) APs.

Which just so happen to be my two favorite APs, so that was extra cool.

^^JEALOUS^^

I just finished re-reading Queen of Thorns. I am of the opinion that each Dave Gross novel is better than the last. Eventually I'll manage to finish my Dave Gross Pathfinder Tales reread quest.
My problem is Paizo keeps releasing NEW Pathfinder tales that I want to read too.
Also, I'm trying to keep up with the Pathfinder Tales Book Club Discussion

Incidentally, I just read a manuscript that included what might be my new favorite hellspawn character.

Nothing would please me (much) more than seeing a "Reread of Varian & Radovan" a la Leigh Butler's delightful "Read of Ice and Fire" at tor.com.

If nothing else, it'd help me remember what the heck I've written these past five years.

Was it a manuscript written by one Dave Gross? I hear he's got a pretty memorable Hellspawn character! ;)

I also would enjoy reading a "Reread of Varian and Radovan!" Honestly, my intent was to reread the series and get reviews written for all the books that I have not reviewed. I've been working on it with some interruptions.

After I get that done, I want to get reviews written for all the Short Fiction that has not been reviewed yet.

If the Paizo team drops another slug of Short Fiction ePubs, that will mean a lot of very pleasant work for me!

I have debated not reviewing Queen of Thorns since it has been so thoroughly reviewed. That runs contrary to my idea of completeness, though.

All the "problems" I listed in my previous post are GOOD problems!

It was not.

So I have a question for Dave Gross. I seem to recall Varian mentioning his desire to die in mutual combat with his criminal nemesis in Queen of Thorns. Later on in King of Chaos he mentions how he believes that someone in the pathfinder society allowed the vampire keisya access to the lacuna codex. Was that a hint that Varian will soon be matching wits with his "Moriarty" soon?

Spoilers for King of Chaos:
While I don't recall that specific reference, I did lay pipe for future revelations about the Pathfinder Society and Varian's relationship with the Decemvirate. I've pitched one or two stories about exploring that mystery, but none has met with approval. (Usually we pitch several ideas for a new novel or story, and only one, if any, gets the green light.)

Also, I've had some ideas about an enduring nemesis for Varian, and you already know Kasiya was not the guy. Beyond that, however, lies the land of ridiculous spoilers.

Every Radovan & the Count novel includes pipe for stories I'd like to tell in the future. Sometimes I pitch those stories and they fly, sometimes they take the big dirt nap. Rarely, after an initial rejection, I come back with a revision that flies, like Queen of Thorns, a version of which I pitched before Master of Devils.

All of this is my most honest way of saying "time will tell" without giving spoilers for secret plans that may or may not see print.

That said, Varian faces both a mystery and a deadly foe soon.

Spoilerificly, can you tell us what the revisions were? (I took this quote out of your spoiler, because this except doesn't have any spoilers.)

I'm happy this one flew. I've enjoyed all the Varian & Radovan tales, but I think this one was my favorite. The titular character was extremely memorable.

It was a pretty big change from the original concept. Pretty much all they had in common was that they were set in Kyonin, involved demons, and involved a search for the creator of the Red Carriage. The titular character wasn't even a part of the original idea, but another very big and infamous creature was.

A few of the subplot ideas from the original are in my "some day" file, so I won't spoil them just yet. They may turn up "some day."

It's really good to hear that we are going to get another Varian and Radovan book, i really hope in this book they return to Cheliax, it will even make a good read for August's AP Hell's Rebels.

Same here, i also want to reread all of the Varian and Radovan books and review them (since i didn't the first time) but i still haven't found the time.
