Summoner Eidolon and casting SM

Rules Questions

Hi,

i searched for it, but i couldn't find the answer, so i hope you can help me with it.

The description about summoning is pretty clear. The SLA to summon the eidolon interferes with the SLA to summon monsters.

BUT, what about summoning the eidolon and casting Summon Monster as regular spell. Would that work?

EDIT: Another question arose:
Do these SLA summon monster work exactly like the spell? I only ask, because the second level selection is crappy as hell, so it would be better to summen 1d3 eagles instead.

Thanks!

Yes, you can use the regular monster summoning spells with your eidolon up.

Your SLA has two advantages over a normal summons: it requires only a standard action and it lasts minutes / level. If you really want to focus on summoning, you might want to look at the Master Summoner archetype.

Hi,

thanks for clearing this up :)

Yes i know, the SLA-version is far better than the spell, but with an extend spell rod later, it could provide the extra diversion needed to win a battle.

I thought about master summoner a while ago, and while i like the theme, it semms problematic at higher levels, to have a lot, but potentialy very weak creatures on the battlefield. In addition it's a logistical nightmare to control 10+ creatures on the battlefield. But an eidolon, the summoner and 1-3 additional creatures is managable.

The eidolon ist the only thing potentially powerful enough to help effectivly at higher levels.

Also, as per RAW, I believe you can call your eidolon if you've used your SLA. There is a line in the SLA that says "As a result, he can only use this ability when his eidolon is not summoned", but there is no converse in the eidolon description that says "he can only use this ability when his SLA is not active".

Of course, this all depends on your interpretation of what 'use' means in the RAW. Is only the initial casting considered a 'use', or is just having the SLA out considered a 'use'? It is unclear.

Sure. The SLA can be 'fragmented' just like the spell can.
