"Dizzying Defense (Ex): At 15th level, while wielding a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon in one hand, the swashbuckler can spend 1 panache point to take the fighting defensively action as a swift action instead of a standard action. When fighting defensively in this manner, the dodge bonus to AC gained from that action increases to +4, and the penalty to attack rolls is reduced to –2."

The fighting defensively action lets you make a melee attack at a -4 (or in this case, -2) bonus. Does that mean that the swashbuckler just gets a free stab as a swift action with this ability? And if so, what about her other actions? Could a swashbuckler make a full-attack action and then get her quick jab in, allowing her to add +4 to her AC and get a free attack without penalizing her full attack action?

You do not get a free attack when fighting defensively, it simply says you can choose the 'fighting defensively' status when you make either a full or standard attack action.

I read it as saying that you can do your normal full attack without penalty, then activate the dizzying defense ability afterwards to get the +4 AC and only suffer -2 on any attacks made from then until the start of your next turn (which would be any AOOs you make). In other words, you get a full attack without the attack penalty and then gain the AC bonus for the rest of the round.

I think you use a swift to fight defensively, getting -2 and +4 to you know what, and then you can full attack or do a targeted strike or whatever. No free stab.

Yeah, but swift actions can be taken at any point in your turn; what happens if you activate it after you've made your attacks, if your reading is correct? Also, how does Dizzying Defense interact with having 3 or more ranks in Acrobatics?
