Question.. Why spellsage?

Razmiran is literally ruled by a tyrannical masked wizard who claims he's a god. That screams Doom. The only thing I had to change was the fact that Doom is actually kind of a benevolent ruler.

@blondebandit -- an alternate thought for the Wasp -- if you don't mind being always small, you could spend 4 Race Points to be Tiny. Then, you could even use Reduce Person (with or without Permanency) to become Diminutive. This saves you the awkwardness of needing to spend feats on Natural Spell and Wild Speech when you really want to just be a very small human.

@Spooky, no problem, Physical Exemplar isn't an important part of my build.

A few more question:
1. I plan to take the Arctic Domain (for obvious thematic reasons). It's domain power a special channel that only works vs creatures with the cold subtype, which says "A creature with the cold subtype has immunity to cold and vulnerability to fire." For 4 RP, one can buy immunity to one element + vulnerability to an opposed element. If I do that, can I also take the cold subtype so that my channel will effect me?
2. Most Marvel supers use unarmed attacks, while weapons are very common in the Pathfinder setting. What are your thoughts about heroes who fight unarmed in the comics using a weapon in this variant world? When Snowbird engages in melee she'll sometimes be Wild Shaped for natural attacks, but when she's not I need to decide if she'll use a weapon or her fists (and it seems the builds may be more varied/interesting if we don't have so many unarmed fighters).
3. I know you listed how several key locations are different in this world (Absolom, Korvosa, Cheliax, Doomstadt). Do you have a sense of where this'll take place (or start, if we're liable to move around)? I'm asking mostly to help with background. If you've got a way to pull us all together from disparate locales then I won't worry about it.

Thanks again!

Shadow Lodge

Ah, gotcha, I'm relatively new to golarion
I'm most used to Toril (the forgotten realms)
@gyrfalcon: you could always split the difference and get brass knuckles.

I'm actually playing as a Doom-expy in an evil campaign right now, and she has Profession (benevolent dictator) :P

@gyrfalcon:

1. I'd allow you to count for your own ability if you take the element immunity for it, sure.
2. I'm fine with people adapting to an appropriate weapon, since it's a different setting and it'd cut down on the volume of monktitude going on, since it's restrictive as hell.
3. Yeah, I know where it'll start, but I'm waiting until selection is done to dish on the details. Everyone'll need a reason to be in a specific city but that's it.

you made my day with that

I am really interested in seeing your version of doom's stats
I imagine I'm as a wizard/artificer with a focus on enchantment and evocation (hardly any transmutation or conjuration so one or both of them are probably his barred school (s)) spells, and the craft construct feat
The doombots might be heavily modified clockwork mages or maybe heavily modified soul-bound mannequins

Bittersweet isn't going to work at 5th level. He will need access to at-will quickened dimension door (or equivalent) and that's not practical.
I might change to my other favourite, Captain Britain. He would be a Brawler/Aegis with the Aegis reskinned as arcane based.
I tried it once before as Monk/Summoner (Synthesist), calling him Captain Taldane, but wasn't entirely happy with him. I think Brawler/Aegis would work better.

Silver Crusade

Unfortunately I don't have time for another pbp at the moment but I will definitely be watching this to see how it plays out. Seem like a really cool idea. Also I figured I post my Iron Man PFS character to see what people think.

He is a lot of fun to play, even though at the moment he is kind of a weak build. I use wands of Magic Missile (Repulsors) and Shield a lot to avoid rolling spell failure and Serren’s Swift Girding (Knights of the Innersea) to quick don my armor. In Melee I rely a lot on Gauntlets and Flare with Spell combat. I roleplay my spells as tech and if I fail a spell failure check I play it off as an armor malfunction.

If I were to build him using your rules he would be a bit better as a Magus/Fighter (Armor Master). I'd use the extra 5 build points to up his Charisma and Strength. In 2 levels he'd be able to Ignore spell failure, move at full speed, Fly, Use Missiles (fireballs) and have full strength Repulsors (empowered Magic Missile or Scorching Rays) and Unibeam (lightning bolts), assuming I could afford Mithral Full Plate.

Spooky, are you allowing stuff from the occult adventures playtest?

...

Hm, since everybody else is playing Nightcrawler, I think I'm going to go for Luke Cage, Power Man.

He'd probably be a reskinned dwarf, playing an Invulnerable Rager on one side-probably taking most of his rage talents in Improved Damage Reduction-and brawler on the other side.

...and I just realized She-Hulk has practically the same build :P

Still, going to build him, although I'll be going on a hiatus from the boards from this weekend to next weekend.

Are there any kind of whip weilding superhero/ine out there?

The only person I can find is Whip Wilson and I've not heard of him until today.

@gyrafalcon: I thought about that, but the concern with wasp is that MOST of the time she is small, but she also has the capability of getting huge as well, and is medium size when she isn't in flight mode... So Wild shape is really the only pathfinder legal thing (outside of casting beast shape and polymorph) that can get me from medium to tiny/diminuative and also to large/huge.

@spooky GM: my third question is about the fact that any of the racial traits that can be taken mulitple times state it in the actual wording. So by RAW static bonus feat may only be taken once when you create a race. I was curious if we could bypass that restricition so I could take it 3 times to get Waso vermin heart (so she can use wild empathy on insects), and then natural spell and wild speech (so that I have the necessary feats to not feel like I'm breaking Wild Form by keeping my standard appearance, outside of some insect wings of course).

I could take them with my regular feats but they seem to be more of something that is innate to her versus learned abilties.

Shadow Lodge

I find it odd that there are no mentions of wolverine yet, and even odder that there are none of gambit considering how easy he is to build now.

X-23 might be fun, though I likely couldn't do her justice as I haven't even read any comics with her in them, nor seen her in an other media bar Wikipedia.

Yeah, I envision Wolverine as a bloodrager/hunter.

Shame about Zemo, but I understand. I like his character and his powerset goes nicely with Gestalt.

Right now I'm thinking Daredevil--Brawler/Inquisitor (committed to justice, not a deity).

So if I'm human, I get all of those race traits plus an additional 10 points? I see that Blindsense costs 4 points, and some of the other traits will work well.

If light blindness costs -2 RP, what value would you assign to complete blindness?

Anybody know how to avoid losing Dex to A.C. when blind? Would uncanny dodge do that?

Silver Crusade

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think the reason Wolverine hasnt gotten much attention is that he tends to be more "necksnappy" in his more popular incarnations (the ones people would want to play), and that seems to run counter to the kind of tone the GM is looking for.

Yes. The feat Blind Fight works for that purpose, too.

okay here is the initial submission for Janet Van Dyne aka Wasp

Question.. Why spellsage?

Good Q Lord Foul :) Basically looking at Walter Langkowski and trying to mirror as much the man as the man-monster he becomes. As Langkowski is a brilliant physicist who conducted research into radiation - effectively looking at him as someone who would have been a "research wizard" who becomes more and more focussed on the transformative elements of magics - and Spell Sage Focussed Spells, and particularly Spell Study abilities which allows access to Bard/Druid/Cleric spells which I think also fits this notion of Waldher well. (as such I'd tailor any/all spell picks to try and incorporate the research or transformation themes).

My version of Walter (Waldher) will be a strange mix with him also being a follower of Kurgess (tipping the nod to his pro-sports background in the comics).

To be fair - regardless of if my Sasquatch makes the cut, the whole creative/transition process from comic book to PFRPG is a blast - I'm really more about trying to recreate the character (or capture the essence of the character) rather than optimising a crunch build. Saying that I'm more than interested to hear suggestions or notions for my build :)

Not quite a whip - but Ghost Rider (Spirit of Vengeance) with his bike chain in similar fashion...

Likewise Thundra also uses a heavy chain as a weapon...

Backstory:

Thor son of Odin is heir to the throne of Asgard. Once brash and careless he endangered himself and friends on his crusade against the Frost Giants. He was banished to Midgard striped of his powers. The native people called their world Golarian. There he found his trueself and proved worthy to hold his sacred hammer Mjolnir once again. He fell in love while on Midgard and was sad to return to Asgard, but he had to stop his brother Loki. Now with Loki imprisioned and the bifrost repaired he has traveld back to Midgard to watch over its people and be with the woman he loves.

Short and sweet on the backstory. Went with the movie stuff and will play him as such. Loved the idea of this game last time but didn't make it in with Blade. Hope Thor makes the cut. Thanks for the consideration. The only real change is I won't have the wings but still can fly if thats cool.

Gah, hate to do this, but I just got my final anthropology assignment and I think it might be the most workload-heavy assignment I've been given ever. Figured I could write a gestalt campaign on the side while studying for finals, but not with this beast on my shoulders.

So, let's put this off for a couple weeks, maybe a month or so. Not bailing since the drive to run it and go through all my dorky "Hydra is Hellknights" h!~&!*&#@ is there, but it's better to put a hold on recruitment than the game itself. I'll newthread once I'm settled in and have the major time investment necessary to write a campaign. Sorry everyone.

Oy, bummer, but I understand. I'll keep my eye open for the new thread. In the meantime, I'd actually just finished crunch for Narya, the Snowbird, and was about to start writing her backstory. I'll post here for posterity:

I’ve been trying to map her powers to those listed here as much as is reasonable to do...and I’m pretty pleased:

Arctic Animal Shape-shifting: Druid (only 1/day & medium so far, but it’ll grow)
Flight: Half-Celestial template: 60’ fly (good)
Self Healing: channel (3d6, 3/day), CLW from Inquisitor
Superhuman Strength: Half-Celestial +4 Human +2 Belt +2 Level +1 = 26 STR (doesn’t quite get me to lifting a ton, but not bad for 5th level)
Postcognition: At Will SLA, bought with race points
Compel Others: Inquisitor (Conversion Inquisition, stern gaze, Command spell)
Mystical Sense & Resistance: Inquisitor (monster lore, detect alignment, track), sacred slayer archetype (studied target), Menhir Savant (detect undead, fey, outsiders, astral, ethereal, incorporeal)

Concessions to the format conversion: Snowbird doesn’t cast spells in the comics, but a Druid is a full caster (and an Inquisitor a partial one). Given that she’s the child of a god with a mystical connection to the arctic I’m fine with that, and I’ve made her Druid spells cold spells (and will use her summons for arctic animals).

Inquisitor w/ sanctified slayer archetype turned out to help flesh out some of her abilities (mostly mystical sense & compel others). There aren’t really any winter/arctic themed spells, but I was still able to find some thematic ones. (As a side note, the reason I asked about Physical Exemplar was to trade out the (less thematic) Inquisitor spells for some abilities to buff her heroic strength and stamina...but I think the build works equally well in either case.

Narya, the Snowbird:

Advancement Choices
Druid 1 | Half-Celestial Template - feat: augment summoning, human: spell focus (conjuration)
Druid 2 | Inquisitor 1 -
Druid 3 | Inquisitor 2 - feat: natural spell

Cant complain that you have your priorities in order, though. I'll treasure the extra time to get Jen perfect, though :)

Yup
I'll actually have time to make all of the concepts I'm working on
My archer (human alchemist (grenadier)/spelless ranger)) former soldier/spy working for Sir Furry, only real change from the comics at this point is the addition of an animal companion, I'm thinking a hawk
My speedster quickling 2/monk 5/undecided 3
Raiden warlock 5 (with a focus on lightning blasts and teleportation)/monk of the four winds (for lightning punches)

I'd love to join, but I'm not the most knowledgable in the Marvel universe. Is there any particular role the group might need and I can start looking up characters to back engineer that role?

I have an idea to trying to create Vision, thinking android race, not sure what class for him though, need to work on that some more.

Another thought is Scarlet Witch, I think that would be fairly easy to make and maybe rather fun as well.

I'll have to think them over for now, especially since there will be a delay in this.

Shadow Lodge

Vision could be a psionic uncarnate on one side.

This seems somehow familiar...

Dotting while I try to decide who to potentially build

Hellooooo humm

Shadow Lodge

To pass the time at my factory job I went and started up several superheroes
Beast boy is a some combination of taskshaper, Druid, and ranger (either spelless and skin changer archetypes or just the shapeshifter archetype) any two of those
Martian manhunter is a telapath psion/taskshaper, the psion side eventually takes the uncarnate PrC
The flash is a quickling 2 monk 5 alchemist (vivisectionist) 3, I'd ask if I could treat quickling as a template so that 1: he can look human 1b he can be medium size 2: he can get the human abilities, feats chosen would include step up, step up and strike (if he qualifies for it, I'm not sure,) bleeding attack, and combat reflexes, among others

Raiden doesn't actually work as a level five, because he's a god, yes a god intentionally weakened to the level of mortals, but even at that level he should have call down lightning and control weather, I was going to just roll with it, after all there's a Thor build, but then I saw the celestially blessed (basically possessed) template and thought that it opened up a lot of possibilities so I flavored raiden to have been mortally wounded in a fight with Dark Kahn (the fusion of Darkseid and Shao Kahn) banishing him/them to this realm and sealing them/him and in a bout of desperation put the last of his power and consciousness into his robes, an undecided unknowable amount of time passes and a party of adventurers and other warriors and heroes are in pitched combat with youtin blood giants and one of them gets separated from the others and gets trapped by a cave in, he begins to pray in desperation and be notices a glow , which when he opens his eyes and sees,a set of monks robes and he grabs them and hears a voice asking him if the wants the power and responsibility to defend the realm from invaders. He accepts, and is awash with power, (for the purpose of this one encounter he had effectively been boosted up to level 9 before the juice ran low) right now raiden is modifying his host's body to handle his presence before he rests to regain his own power stat wise he's a mix of suli and slyph made a little stronger celestial possessed 1/monk (four winds) 4/warlock 5, he has the dimensional agility chain
Captain marvel (Shazam) is a synthesist/warlock, synthesist works so well because of how compareitivly puny billy is and he somehow shouts things like "speed of Hermes" or "strength of ares" and gets even stronger though I'd use a different version of warlock than I used for raiden, and it's still not a perfect fit because "Shazam" doesn't summon things
Poison ivy is a plant infused alchemist/Druid (tree singer

Liberty's Edge

For Captain America, Brawler (Shield Champion) gets 80% of the job done on it's own. The only thing left to fill out is his leadership/tactician/inspirational roll.

Cavalier seems the obvious way to go, but none of the various archetypes on it quite fit. Daring Champion is a possibility, but has all the "one handed fencing" nonsense that bring literally zero to the concept. Emissary is another "almost": it doesn't ditch the mount, which is the one thing about the Cavalier that pretty much has to go.

Skald/Bard also provide "leadership" elements, but all the magic junk screws things up.

Fighter (Tactician) might be the only way to really capture it, but it looses out on the Banner ability, which I thought would be perfect for using Cap's shield as a symbol of inspiration.

Shadow Lodge

Think about it, modified to the setting, I'd say bard's or maybe skald's level of magic wouldn't mess him up too much.
Personally I'd go either alchemist (vivisectionist) or the psionic class Tactician.

Brawler/paladin for cap America.

Blockbuster wizard/bard for cyclops.

Using the race builds for SLA at will - blink for nightcrawler and shadowcat.

Suggestion and jump at will for a jedi.

Halfling brawler/rogue with dragon style and spring attack for Puck.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

So, looking at making Scarlet Witch for when he starts recruitment. So far I am looking at human sorcerer with the anarchic wildbloodline and maybe trying to swap in the chaos based spells from the clerical list if he'll allow it. Stumped on a second class though, not really anything seems to yell out "I make sense". Any suggestions?

gah why did I not think of paladin

Soulknife works well for Jedi, I'd go soulknife/either tatcian or vitalist in gestalt.

gah why did I not think of paladin

Soulknife works well for Jedi, I'd go soulknife/either tatcian or vitalist in gestalt.

Paladin just doesn't sit right for me. Cap always struck me as the quintessential Neutral Good. He does what he perceives to be the right thing because it's *right*, not because some codified set of rules says it is.

6 RP for fast healing
4 RP for scent
Wolverine barbarian (invulnerable rager) / monk (martial artist)

Brawler / investigator or inquisitor for a batman using 4 RP for extra feats plus 2 RP for Vanish at will

A real trick is using those RP for at will SLA to simulate mutant powers.

Captain America always followed a code of conduct and never lied. He only left the shield when he was disgusted with the government. IMHO. If he isn't a paladin, who is?

Cheers

EDIT

Cyclops
2 RP Hydralic Push
4 RP Shatter
4 RP Protection from Arrows - shooting stuff out of the air

I'd go martial artist monk/spelless ranger for batman personally, with his animal companion being Ace, The Bat-Hound.

And depending on the iteration Capt has been presented as NG and LG at different times in his long run.
The current iteration of Captian "I don't like bullies, I don't care where they're from" Americia, I'd say is Neutral Good though.

Let's see I'm going to try Spider-Man next
Let's see first list powers

Can run upwards of 200 miles per hour,
Can lift I think it was 16 normal human limits (I'll have to double check this number)
Can climb on any surface (some writers make exceptions for impossibly smooth or magical surfaces)
Is extreamly flexible.
Has a freakishly effective subconcious precognition, it's what allows him to be able to know where to shoot his webs to be able to web sling, it also warns him of danger
Is an accomplished martial artist who even invented his own style, the way of the spider to incorporate his spider sense and use it to the best of it in combat
Can shoot webs from his wrists
Is incredibly intelegant and has a rather large pain tolerance

I'm thinking monk/alchemis, maybe vivisectionist archetype maybe not, maybe also taking the quicklig race and adding extra race points for the web spell at will, and slippers of spider climbing
Use monk's AC bonus, evasion and uncanny dodge to represent his spidy sence
Use alchemist's mutagen and the monk's unarmed strike for his super strength
Alchemist in general shows off his super intelegance
Maybe find a way to get him a clumsy fly speed and call it web slinging
Quickling and monk together represent his super speed

Yeah, Urban Ranger + Skirmisher was one of the early stackable archetypes I used and my first thought was "I am almost Batman"

I'd love to get back into this, when you're again available, Spooky.

Shadow Lodge

Going to make another character to pass the time
Ron Stoppable
Rouge (pet trainer, carnavalist)/monk (four winds)
Roufas is his familiar/companion
And throw in the celestial servant feat just for the heck of it
In the end Roufas is almost as effective a party member as Ron, but he's still got a measure of badass that he can dish out when the occasion requires it.

I'm glad everyone is really gung-ho about the idea, but due to the fact I'll be newthreading when it's time, I'd appreciate it if the thread were to die rather than being bumped to shoot the s$$! with off-topic build ideas, just so it slips off the front page and people don't keep coming in expecting a recruitment thread when it isn't that anymore.

The likely reopening of recruitment is getting pushed back anyway; a few friends expressed interest in having something run as a one-off at an all-night thing a bunch of us do, and it's going to be run as a test to see if it pans out into something a meatspace table could get running. If it does take off then I will have the material already written up for the real life group and be able to run it here just fine, but said party is late December, so we'll be waiting a while to see how it goes. Sorry guys.

Shadow Lodge

Sorry spooky
Everyone else, there's actually a thread for that stuff already

Instead of the ridiculous gestalt thread, I created a new one in the Conversions thread where most of the superhero stuff.

cheers
