The Dying Earth RPG by Robin D. Laws and Others

Anyone on here actually play this game?

Ran across a mention of it on another forum but there was no actual discussion. Jonathan Tweet reviews it favorably (kinda) but then knocks it so hard in the text of his review that one wonders why he made it a "pick" at the 2001 GenCon... Maybe it had no competition?

Haven't played it but picked up a bunch of the game books in PDF when it came out in the bundle of holding a few months back. Interesting background on the world, and seemed more rp focused.

More for me at least a novelty to mine for ideas, like the vance books themselves

Thanks, that helps.

Hmm.. Yes, it would be easier to mine The Dying Earth RPG stuff than read/re-read through all of Vance's books to get ideas. Not only has Robin Laws done that for you but he and others have also put considerable thought into RP/game-mechanic considerations as well.

Bumping this for the 1st and last time hoping someone else out there has actually played the system

I don't know anything about this game as such, but I just thought I'd mention that the Dying Earth books were out in an omnibus form that might make your search of Vance's materials go more easily if you need to.

Mostly the same for me. I bought a bunch of the PDFs before they lost the license (before they got it back) but have not played or run it and I use it for inspiration in my pathfinder games and reading enjoyment.

Neat attributes, neat systems for recharging various things, lots of incentives to focus on fast talking flowery flim-flammery, and a cool setting.

Thanks guys (Calex, Voadam). I might pick up some of the products for ideas... at some point.

There are so many neat RPGs out there but you need 4-6 people to play and outside D&D/Pathfinder it's just not too likely to happen that you get that many people together who want to play an unusual TTPRG. <sigh>
