Deathtrap Oozes

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

Correct me if I'm wrong about this. When one properly disables a trap that is an DT ooze. The trap effect does not go off and the ooze doesn't get its surprise round?

The surprise round is independent of disabling the trap. It may even be possible to disable the trap but not realize that it's a creature; in that case, the hapless character would still be caught unawares by an attack from the ooze. The deathtrap ooze's stat block describes how to tell if a trap is a deathtrap ooze; failing that, I'd call the party surprised if the ooze attacks.

Okay, so if they don't make the check after disabling. Surprise. Also, I've never had to deal with creatures like such starting in occupied squares, like with players, at the beginning. Is that squeezing or something else?

It's generally supposed to be impossible, which causes some grief in these situations (try searching for "big creature falls in create pit spell"-type threads). If the ooze attacks, I'd move it to an adjacent square to keep the combat legit.
