Shark Island's "At This Location" Effect

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

So, me and my friends are a little undecided on this location's passive effect. When it says to summon a Shark card, is that only at the initial travel to Shark Island? Or is a new Shark summoned each time before you take your action at that location (e.g. before you explore, give a card, or even move away from Shark Island)?

Since other location effects happen every turn and not just once, is Shark Island just supposed to be a really hard place to clear (5 monsters + a summoned Shark every turn), or are we misreading when the "At This Location" effect occurs?

It's at the start of your turn, so if you are already there at the start of the turn, it happens. And since you only start your turn once, it only happens once per turn. It does not happen on the turn you move there because you have already started your turn at your previous location.

When a location's "At this location" power says "At the start of your turn, do X", if you are at that location at the start of your turn, do X. If you are not at that location at the start of your turn, don't do X. If you are at that location, but it is not the start of your turn, don't do X.

There's a fair number of sharks at Shark Island.

Shark Island is pretty easy to close if you put your strongest fighter there, since you can attempt to close with the defeated summoned shark. So you just kill 2 sharks in a row. I know that when you summon a monster it is banished after the encounter, but I'm pretty sure you can still follow the rules of the card even if it's summoned.

I try to close it as quickly as possible.

Wait, are you saying that you're letting characters trigger a chance to close Shark Island after beating the summoned shark? No:

If the summoned card is a villain or henchman, defeating it does not allow you to win the scenario or close a location deck—ignore any such text on those cards.

Well I'll be... Thanks for that.
