When you do a background for a character and say that you have a mentor for the class you decided on, how long to use for the training in that class? I havent seen anything on this as optional/suggestion in anything I read....maybe I've missed it in one of the books.
I'm trying to build a background for the mentor of a dead character, who I'm now brining in to replace said dead character, and need some thoughts on how long it take to train the dead character to first level.

Easiest way?
Look at your race's age categories for the various classes. You have intuitive classes that probably didn't have any training. Moderately trained classes, and classes which require a lot of training. Based on how many years it adds to your age over the age of adulthood for your race is how long you spent with your mentor.

So your suggestiing some like this.....we'll use humans
Humans start at age 15 plus a die roll. Intuitive class add 1d4 so min age of 15 so one yr training. Moderate class add 1d6 so also min age 15 and one yr. Heavy training class add 2d6 so min at 17 so two yrs training.
Is that what you had in mind?

Sort of... I was suggesting the amount of training equal the amount of time spent with a mentor. Or some specific fraction of training time, like 1/2 or 1/4 for everyone.
So yeah...human, "adult" at 15. He's a barbarian. He is 19 years old. He spent 4 years being mentored in barbarian things. If he's 16 then only 1 year. Some people catch on faster.
The human wizard? She's 27. She spent 12 years in the library with Professor Plum.
