Birthdays and Anniversaries 44% off sale!
It's been a heck of a year. I just celebrated turning 44. I got hired by Paizo, oversaw projects for Green Ronin, and moved to Seattle. Rogue Genius Games is celebrating its first year. A sale is definitely called for. Since a 1% off sale isn’t much of a celebration, for this year only we're doing a 44% off sale for the month of November! Everything we've published as of Nov 1 is 44% off for just this month.
44 years. 44% off. If there is anything of ours you've ever even considered getting, NOW is the time to get it!

One of the secrets to my success is that I listen to my patrons, and often draw inspiration from their requests. I can't fill every request, but Advanced Options: Slayer's Talents and Lethalities, The Genius Guide to the Shadow Warrior, The Genius Guide to Fire Magic, Houserule Handbooks: Spellpoint Compilation all got their starts as suggestions from folks on the Paizo messageboards. So during this month, I have an offer for you.

Suggest a product you'd like to see Rogue Genius tackle. Post it BOTH on this thread, and as an email to owen@roguegeniusgames.com. Tell me in email and post what pdf we published by Nob 1 2014 you'd like to get for free.

And I'll send it to you.

I have a lot of third party material and they cover a lot of bases for a lot of sub-genre campaigns, but there's a few things that I feel haven't been covered adequately.

From Rogue genius Games I've bought a lot of the Advanced Options. These products were able to produce builds previously unrealizable, added flavor that I didn't know I needed, and changed the dynamics of the class features that already exist. But of everyone that didn't get some love, the one that stood out that I didn't see was any Fighter stuff. I'd love to see some fighter only feats that change how you think of and build fighters. (edit: to elaborate. I'd love to see Fighters get in on the style feats. Fighter oriented style feats that represent modes of combat that boost tactics for fighters. Also on another thread I've been pushing the idea that the fighter should be considered dangerous and his threatened squares should be anxiety inducing. Feats or styles that deal with things like making all threatened enemies shaken unless they make a save, being able to force actions with intimidate checks like moving 5ft away from him, imposing penalties on attacking creatures that aren't him. Creatures threatened by a fighter should feel terror and be a bit distracted. Having things like this would allow the fighter to effect positioning and control the tide of battle.)

Alternatively I'd also love to see the Runic feats cover more ground. They seem ripe to mimic alchemical effects and weapon/armor properties. When I first picked up the two that exist I was looking for means for martial classes to be as dependent on magical gear with minor magic effects.

If Possible, I'd love to get my hands on the Dracomancer PDF. its the only thing in my wishlist that I haven't gotten yet.

While I won't go into Sales Manager mode with every post, since you specifically mentioned wanting fighter material I wanted to make sure you were aware of the offerings we already have!

The Genius Guide to the Talented Fighter is without a doubt our #1 Fighter-themed book. It allows the fighter to be custom built to do exactly the things a player wants it to. While a great deal of the information is taken from existing archetypes (redesigned and rebalanced as needed), there are also new options as well. And with five 5-star reviews and three 4-star reviews (and nothing lower), this remains the most popular of the Talented line of class redesigns.

And The Genius Guide to More Fighter Talents is all new material, which you can use with the above book, or add to normal fighter builds. (With four 5-star reviews of its own.)

The whole line of Archetype Books present options available to every class in the core rules and APG, including fighters. The Archer Archetypes play particularly well with the class, but they can all be used.

The Genius Guide to Bravery Feats Not only does this build feats off the fighter's bravery class feature, it has two 5-star reviews and was designed by a Paizo forums regular!

#1 With a Bullet Point:12 Alternatives for the Fighter's Bravery Class Feature If, on the other hand, you'd like to ditch bravery, here are a set of alternative class features for fighters.

#1 With a Bullet Point: 7 Feats for Sword and Board Fighting These are combat feats, rather than fighter-specific feats, but a good selection of combat feats does play into the fighter's access to bonus feats.

And finally, if you happen to be playing with Mythic rules, here are fighter-specific Mythic powers to crank your unique class features to "11!"

I've picked up Talented Fighter+More Talents, The Guide to Bravery Feats, and Alternatives for the Fighter's Bravery Class Feature. While I enjoyed them but I haven't felt them to be as drastically class altering as things like Beyond Bloodlines, or the Alchemist one.

Just a few things I failed to expand on due to laziness/lack of time:

An idea of a spontaneous Alchemist. Basically I wanted to try to make some symmetry by justifying a spontaneous alchemist. I was also starting to work on the idea of rune-like sigils that made alchemical effects. They were to be a kind of alchemical item allowing for effects like weapon properties based on alchemical items, such as Flaming for Alchemist fire and so on. Evoke the sigil and get the effect for a while and whatnot. Never got to working on it beyond what is typed in that document. Throwing it out there in case it's interesting.

I cant find the document but at some point I was working on 'stances' or combat feats for fighters where entering the stance was a full round action and they'd get some sort of buff. By exiting the stance they can perform some kind of brilliant stunt or effect. At the price of action economy a character could do devastating things. I branched them out into styles based on combat modes like TWF, two handed weapons, and a few weapon groups. And then into a few styles that functionally made the body into a rune. They required ranks in spellcraft but the movements and the stance functioned as sort of a magical dance that cause spell-like abilities.

Congratulations on your big year Owen!

A few things I'd like to see from RGG: The Talented Bard. The Talented Rogue, Fighter, and Monk have become the standard in my games; I eagerly anticipate a day when there is a Talented version of every class! For purely selfish reasons I'd like to see the bard sooner than later though.

I'd love to see some archetype support for other RGG base classes, particularly the Time Thief and Time Warden.

A hellfire fueled base class that uses and expands the awesome Genius Guide to Hellfire Magic.

If you're offering... the Genius Guide to the Talented Ranger certainly wouldn't go amiss in my collection!

Thank you.

Talented Bard is being worked on! (Though Talented Witch will be next).

Have you checked out rite Publishing's "Renegade" line of products/ They have feats and archetypes geared for other publisher's classes, including the RGG time classes.

A Hellfire class sounds fun. Hmmm...

Thank you for the Talented Ranger; I'll be sure to post a review when I've had a chance to read it!

I'm very interested to see how a full caster is implemented as a talented class so I'm very eager for the Talented Witch.

I'd forgotten that Rite had the two Renegade Archetypes books... I'll have to check them out.

Owen KC Stephens wrote:

Yes, that would be fun.

Also, a Shadow Mage to go with the other shadow classes. I liked the caster/non-caster thematic symmetry of the Death Mage/Death Knight, Dragonrider/Dracomancer, or the Mighty/Mystic Godlings.

Congratulations, Owen!

I really loved your Loot4Less series. Real ingenuity on those items. How about Loot4 not-so-less, covering 3-10k range?

Also, another vote for hellfire wielding class.

Genius Guide to Talented Barbarian would be appreciated. Thank you!

Happy Birthday!

I am a fan of the themed monster books with evocative descriptions so continuing the Genius Guide to Gruesome X to monsters like Demons would be appreciated.

Also I would love to see a cult book/monster menagerie for any of the OGC demon lords of Green Ronin's Book of Fiends. Themed monsters like in the Monster Menagerie series and evocative demon lord and cult info would work well together.

I would like the Genius Guide to Gruesome Dragons.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 8

I would love to see a Talented Cleric. Leveling one up right now is kind of lackluster in terms of choices.

How about more bloodrager bloodlines?

I would like the GG to the Talented Cavalier.

Thanks!

Okay folks, not including stuff already in production (I plan to get to ALL the Talented Classes eventually), we have requests for:

Fighter Options Book
More Runes stuff, maybe alchemical
Hellfire-based Class (2)
Shadow Mage
Loot-4-Less Style Books in the 3,000-10,000 gp range
Genius Guide to Gruesome Demons
More Bloodrager Bloodlines

ALSO remember if you want a free pdf you ALSO have to send me an email to owen.stephens@gmail.com asking me for it. That's how I track these requests, and that's how I know what email to use when sending your link for a free pdf.

I'd like to see: "Magic Items Made Easy"

This product would likely fall into the Houserules line of products. It would provide alternate rules for crafting magic items. It could strip away the cost calculations and make everything easier to figure out. This could be especially useful with the creation of staves, something that I've tried and tried but still can't figure out the calculations for (and this is from someone who loves artificers). You may even be able to treat magic items as Talented Items. All magical properties that can be added to items can be broken down to a point cost and magic items could then have charts that show how many points work out to a specific cost. I'm not exactly sure how this would work or if it can work, but I'm no a Genius.

I would like Ultimate Options: Story Feats if you would be so kind. Thank you and good luck for many more wonder years!

Liberty's Edge

Portal magic? Like the 3.5e FR stuff?

Silver Crusade

I have been loving the microsettings that you have put out. I would love to see more of those, and one especially to deal with the time products you have released. It would make me very interested. Plus an adventure with Time related themes would be amazing.

Lets see...since I pushed so much for the Shadow Warrior...I've now got to push for a shadowcaster :)

Dracomancer, me would like.

I'd love to see Genius Guides to Force Magic and Sonic Magic, two energies that seem overlooked by a lot of publishers.

As my gift I'd like Advanced Options: Slayer's Talents and Lethalities.

Thanks for all the hard work you and the rest of your motley lot put into making such wonderful products!

I would like to see the Talented Paladin.

Also, it would be very useful to have a sort of rogue's gallery with NPCs using just genius classes like Hellion, Mosaic Mage, Armiger etc.at a few levels.

You gave two different emails. I sent the response to the first one, but got no reply.

Hey, Owen.

I think that the game right now desperately needs a system that allows the player to upgrade his items over levels, instead of replacing them. This could be achieved by using some kind of legacy items system, rune scribing or inserting other magical items into existing ones - such as ioun stones, or welding rings onto shafted weapons - to achieve some kind of synergy or upgrade.

And I would very much love to receive Talented Ranger, since I have all other products from the Talented line. And I promise to do a review. :)

I'll copy this into a mail.

I heartily second this. I'd love to see more Bloodrager bloodlines.

I'd love a more Godling material. Perhaps something with mythic wrapped in? I'd love a way to simulate Ragnarok or use the Godling material to supplant gods in a campaign as the end goal. TLDR: More Godling material.

I'd like the genius guide to the shadow warrior.

More bloodrager bloodlines is definitely in the pipeline, though I can't say when I'll have time to finish it.

My working list of new Bloodrager Bloodlines, designed to be *different* from what I'd do for sorcerers. I'll like pare this down.
*Blade (perhaps runeblade, but your family line was influenced mystically by melee weapons)
*Sphinx ("The clansmen of the deserts say some riddles should never be answered.")
*Wolf ("wolfbrother" or similar totem-bloodlines)
*Firearms ("son of a gun")
*Death ("Born of a father long since buried, and cut from his cold mother's womb")
*Vengeance ("Her parents conceived her so she could carry out their long-delayed revenge.")
*Lost Ages ("He was born in the wrong time, a creature of primarl urges and melancholies out of place in modern cities.")
*Force ("Many wizards study force. A few merge with it more... intimately.")
*Golemkith ("If a construct is made to be perfect enough, it can mate with living beings.")
*Lycanthropy ("Beasts walk as men in those lands.")
*Titan ("In those days, there were titans who lived among mortals.")
*Hag ("Bastard daughter of a whole coven, evil and magic were her birthright, but not her passion.")
*Madness ("In this generation, rage. But ever member of that family has been... off.")

Liberty's Edge

Ideas going through my head these days :

1) An hybrid martial class focusing on a select weapon of choice. And making it GOOD whatever the weapon chosen, maybe with differing options based on the kind of weapon.

Like a mix of the Warpriest (for good damage whatever the weapon), the Fighter (for the training), the Ranger (for the combat styles).

2) Crafting magic items : alternate systems for the costs of magic items (masterwork base item's cost included). How the heck can "primitive" cultures create magic items otherwise ?

For example, through skill checks with high-enough DCs to find those extra rare ingredients. Another idea is quests that can be used to fulfill spell requirements.

I just loved the fluff of the components to make magic Chaos swords in Realms of Chaos (like forging a sword that slowed your enemies on the back of a tired very old man) and never found it anywhere else since.

3) Guidelines to creating balanced feats, story feats and traits

I would love to get The Genius Guide to Gruesome Dragons :-)

* Shadowmagic, not just conventional nine-level casters, but shadow bards and shadow druids too.

A non-magical inventor class (or system). It can be weird-sciency, but not magitech.

Maybe some One-Room Encounters?: basically some self-contained encounters/mini-quests that a GM could drop into many existing AP volumes/modules where the PCs have a challenge to overcome--a BBEG combat, a Tucker's Kobolds-ish melee, a social encounter, a trapped room, kill/fetch this macguffin, etc. Other than the party staying alive, a successful resolution wouldn't likely advance any meta-plot or the existing AP/module storyline, but it could provide an opportunity for the GM to 1) "re-drop" some loot the party missed or clues/intell, 2) drop some healing/restoration or other resources for a party that didn't expect a certain type of critter (swarms, level-/stat-draining undead, constructs, etc.), or c) give some non-combat-optimized PCs in the party a situation in which to shine.

would love to see more additional options for the warpriests, perhaps something like stigmata they can gain in place of a bonus feat.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The Genius Guide classes have been super cool and they inspired the idea behind a potential product.

WIP name: Genius Guide to BBEG

One thing that kind of breaks my immersion for Pathfinder games is how easy it is to metagame the BBEG. Off of just stuff you hear in a campaign it's so easy to guess the villain's class and specialty.
EX:
"oh a necromancer in armor? Evil cleric guys"
The goal of the book is to "break the rules for PCs" to create more unique encounters and more moments of "wow, that guy is crazy! How's he doing that!" The book would NOT be for players, though if written a different way this book could instead be a "build your own class book." I feel that building your own class would end up problematic in a players hands and that this idea is best for BBEG or really just any powerful character who breaks the molds.

The book would have a lot of talents, each categorized into one or two of the three (wip) categories named Beefy, Squishy, and middle ground.

You would pick your hit die and it would come with one good save associated and access to talents in the associated talent group.

D10-fort-beefy talents
D8-reflex-middle talents
D6-will-squishy talents

At level one you pick a super talent for a major class feature.
Ex: Squishy super talent for prepared 1-9 level spells off the X list.
Ex: Squishy super talent for spontaneous spells off X list and one more good save
EX: Beefy Major talent for SR vs all harmful spells, gaining all the Disruptive feat line at X levels, and 2 more good saves.
EX: Beefy major talent for all armor prof, martial weapons, the ability to wield a weapon in one hand as if it were a two handed weapon, up hit die to D12, and no attack penalty for wielding a tower shield.

Alternatively the base class can have "-" for hit die and saves then the major talents would decide your hit die, saves, and what your access to talent pools is.

I figure it's a less explored market space because currently classes are balanced for player use and to emulate such a BBEG currently it would be a huge mess of a sheet with templates everywhere.

My biggest hope is that this inspires you to write a book with a similar objective even if you don't use my exact ideas.

I'm interested in the Time Thief PDF.

They all sound great, but the ones I left above are the ones that would 100% definitely get me to buy the product.

I wouldn't mind seeing a firearms-based class feature for every class. A firearms domain, a sorcerer spellslinger ...

As a companion or precursor product, what about a The Genius Guide to Familiar Archetypes with archetypes for familiars infused with shadowstuff, hellfire, arctic rime, Seelie/Unseelie/Fey magic, the Chaos of Limbo (Maelstrom), the nightmares of Leng, the harmonies of Eversong, etc.? And better/more options for non-wizards/-magi/-arcanist to get a familiar of their own. And if they entirely or mostly a non-caster, what different types of abilities might they develop through that two-way familiar bond?

I have decided to second the motion for the above items.

I would also like to see (but with a better title "The Genius Guide to Organizing those hundreds of feats and hundreds of spells into lists that can be used to separate elf magic from dwarf magic etc. Because I like my races to have different magical backgrounds and traditions."

I would like a copy of the Talented Fighter.

Somewhere I typed this up and I thought I posted it, but apparently not, so am recreating it.

1) Finish the Sinful Feats series.
2) We have the shadow classes, how about a corollary to them, a caster that uses Light magic and functions as the antithesis of a shadow
caster.
3) A Genius Guide to Shadows and Light.
4) More Wayfinder and Location guides. Really enjoyed the first couple of these in each of these series.
5) I concur with force and sonic magic.
6) More Bard and music options. I know Bardic Masterpieces is out there, but more support there.
7) Ley line system magic/feats/other? (I know there are a couple out there, Malhavoc Press, Kobold Press and Otherverse Games)
I had previously pushed for Truename magic but Interjection Games I think has done a nice job with their take on it.

Thank you.

P.S. Will be sending you a request for PDF, once I figure out which ones I don't currently have. Pretty small list, or maybe I'll give you a list of stuff I don't have and let you decide. Worked out pretty well last time.

Maybe. I don't like to create good equivalents of everything evil and vice versa, but there are some strong themes there.

I know I really want to see the Seven Sinful Feats of Sloth. That would be memorable, and hopefully some of them play off the despair aspect as well as the more common 'too lazy to move'.

Thanks. I was kind of curious, remembering back to a couple old Dragon magazines that had both sets of seven as cleric domains.

What I'd Like to see:

Agree on the:
Shadow Caster/Shadowmancer
Alt Magic Item creation
Shadow Magic

Hellfire Class
Gruesome Demons

Additionally I'd like:
Gruesome Devils and Daemons
Gruesome Feats

Gruesome Haunts
Familiar and Animal Companion Feats
Inevitable Bloodline and Domain
Neutral Magic and Domain (Neutral casters get no love)
Psionic Godling (hopefully compatible with Dreamscarred press)
More Monster Menagerie (love me some new monsters)
More One Night Stands
Some Riven Mage Support (additional spells, options, ect)

If I can Think of more, I'll post them.

If I could get the Talented Ranger, that be awesome :)

Comp them all a Waysides for responding, too, Owen.

:D Thanks for the sale, guys! Was able to pick up all the Talented class PDFs I didn't already have, pick up all the Spell Variants, and get a PDF of Ninja options that I see no issue rolling into Talented Rogue. For what I would like to see next (besides the Talented Alchemist and Witch, which I await eagerly), I would like to see a book of spellcaster options that focused on options based on East Asian folklore and mythology or with a strong East Asian flavor. The book of Eastern Spellcraft, you might say.
