They might have been distracted by some other deadly virus that has been around for roughly the same span of time...

Except that the behaviors for catching that other virus were very specific and intimate. With Ebola they are risking it mutating into something rather more communicable and yet no less deadly.

Sort of had to "adjust that" so it's true for me, hope you don't mind Cal

I've been playing Tabletop RPGs since 1985, hard to get away from them! I have been playing video games since a little before that.

Both game types allow me to experience other worlds and situtaions that obviously I would never get to experience in real life.

Also, it lets me hang out with friends, meet new friends, and fly my geek flag at cons and such.

And finally, I do kind of like all the crunch. I've actually found as I've gotten older, I find myself eagerly anticipating the Dice Rolling parts, and shying away from the role-playing parts. I've actually been tempted a few times to stop the role-playing entirely, and just go with something like Warhammer or the X-Wing mini game. I think a lot of it goes back to the part about doing stuff I don't get to do in real life. I have to do Diplomacy, Bluff, Appraise checks all day long at work and at home. Let me swing a virtual longsword at the game table!!

I feel like a kid again, what with my 27 years and all you geezers around.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I play because if I don't I become irritable and get the shakes.

...because I've been playing for 35 years, and I figure I'm just starting to get good at it.

...because I get to see friends that I wouldn't necessarily get to see on a day-to-day basis.

...because its another thing my wife and I get to do together.

...because if I don't I can't justify buying all of this cool stuff.

...because its an escape, where I get to do things I never get to do in real life.

...what else am I going to do with my free time?
