Edits for Character Sheet PDFs

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

I really like the Character Sheet PDFs for the Pathfinder Card Game. It makes things a lot easier to manage, especially with OP and being able to play many different characters at the same time. Another nice thing about them is that they can be edited and updated for mistakes and errata.

If it is any help, I’ve made a list of edits that might need to be made to the character sheet PDFs. This includes minor mistakes, changes to characters based on updated rules, and errata that have been made.

Edits Needed/Suggested:
--------------------

Rise of the Runelords

General Style Change: The checked check boxes for proficiency powers that characters like Valeros get automatically do not need to be there and they look kind of awkward compared to the newer sheets.

Ezren

Under “Cards List” the final card feat for Ally should be a 5, not 6.

Lem

For his first power, you may remove “Once per check” since you can only activate powers once per check according to the rules. (Also make this change to both of his Roles)

Seoni

Under her first power, change “Arcane die” to “Arcane skill”. (Also make this change to both of her Roles)

Sajan

Under his first power, change “Dexterity die” to “Dexterity skill”. (Also make this change to both of his Roles)

Under his first power, change “([ ] you may add the Magic trait)” to “([ ] and you may add the Magic trait)”

--------------------

Skull & Shackles

Damiel

Under “Cards List” the final card feat for Item is missing the check box beside the 9

Under his Roles, change “Damiel (Genadier)” to “Damiel (Grenadier)”

Change “When you would banish a card that has the Alchemical trait, recharge it instead” to “When you play a card that has the Alchemical trait and would banish it, you may recharge it instead”.

Change “When you play a spell that does not have the Attack trait, you gain the skills Arcane and Divine equal to your Craft skill until the end of the step” to “You gain the skills Arcane and Divine equal to your Craft skill while you play or when you would banish a spell that does not have the Attack trait”.

Lini

In the Aquamancer role, replace the second-to-last power with: “Add 2 ([ ] 4) to any combat check by a character at your location against a card that has the Aquatic trait ([ ] or any check by that character against a ship).”

In the Aquamancer role, after “If you defeat a monster that has the Aquatic trait” add “and would banish it”.

Seltyiel

In character and role sections, change “before you reset your hand” to “at the end of your turn”.

--------------------

Class Decks

-Bard-

Meliski

Under Skills, there is a blue line missing to divide “Disable: Dexterity +2” and “Constitution”

Change “allow her to reroll 1 die ([ ] 2 dice)” to “allow her to reroll 1 die ([ ] or 2 dice)”.

-Ranger-

Agna

Change “that weapon’s traits” to “that card’s traits”.

Arabundi

On Mage Hunter role, change the last power from “[ ] When you play Blessing of the Gods on your non-combat check, you may recharge a random spell from your discard pile” to “[ ] When you play Blessing of the Gods ([ ] or any blessing) on your non-combat check, you may recharge a random spell from your discard pile”.

-Rogue-

Lasath

On main character power and Sword Dancer role change “When you would banish a monster, display it. You may recharge a card to add 1d6 ([ ]+1) to your combat check for each displayed monster.” to “When you defeat a monster and would banish it, you may display it instead. Before you attempt a combat check, you may recharge a card to add a number of d6 ([ ]+1) equal to your number of displayed monsters. At the end of your turn, banish your displayed monsters.”

On his Dervish role card, change the power to “When you defeat a monster and would banish it, you may display it instead. Before you attempt a combat check, you may recharge a card to add a number of d6 ([ ]+1)([ ]+2)([ ]+3) equal to your number of displayed monsters. At the end of your turn, banish your displayed monsters.”

Wu Shen

Should her second to last power under the Death Whisperer role be ([ ] or 2 cards)?

Her second to last power under the Prey Stalker should have a check box in front of it, but that would cause her to have 13 power feats in that role. A significant design change to the character’s role may be needed. However, according to Mike, this is not an error, but there has never been a precedent for getting a free power when selecting a Role without having to spend a power feat so I still included it here.

-Sorcerer-

Amaryllis

Change “After ([ ] and before) you reset your hand” to “At the end of your turn, after ([ ] and before) you reset your hand”.

-Wizard-

Radillo

Change “After you play a spell that has the Arcane trait” to “When you play a spell that has the Arcane trait during an encounter”.

For her Puppet Master role, change “When any character at your location encounters a monster, you may recharge an ally to reduce the difficulty of the check to defeat the monster” to “When any character at your location attempts a check to defeat a monster, you may recharge an ally to reduce the difficulty of that check”.

Has anyone noticed any more edits that they think should be made?

Are these all official rules updates? What is your basis for these updates? The pdf character sheets in their recent downloadable version?

How to know what updates are there compared to the original printed chaarcter cards?
Are the modifications in the pdf character sheets marked in red when updated?

All of these are meant for the PDF character sheets, based on the most recent update, as my point is to maybe help get all of the fixes put in next time Paizo updates them. I don't really have any interest in the actual character and role cards since I almost never use them and they can't be updated as easily as the PDFs can.

Most of the edits are either simply obvious mistakes (like missing a check box, skipping a number in card feat progression, misspelled words, etc), based on official rules or format changes that took between Runelords and S&S (like the way Armor and Weapon proficiencies are displayed when a character comes with them automatically or the difference between a Die and a Skill), or based on the official FAQs. The only ones that do not fall into any of those categories are the two for Wu Shen from the Rogue Deck, which I think I made obvious enough that they weren't official (with the "?" after the first one and the long statement after the second).

Sovereign Court

I really hope they eventually put all these items into the downloadable character sheets. They are pretty much all either official changes that have been made, or simple text changes based on new terms and rules (like the die vs skill).

For Wu Shen's first modification you listed, yea it sounds like something that they'll probably say is supposed to be "or". As for the second, well, you said it yourself. Mike has already said it wasn't a mistake. At most, maybe move it up the list so the sheet looks cleaner and all the feat-earned powers are together at the bottom.

Current version of the pdf-character sheets is the same text as on the cards?

Or are there already changes made?

Sovereign Court

Still the same as the cards.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

We will add the errata to a future update to the character sheets. We will not be updating "die" with "skill" on Runelords characters, because if you're playing Runelords characters with the Runelords set, the language is correct and consistent with that set; if you're playing Runelords characters with S&S, there's a sidebar in the S&S rulebook that tells you about the conversion.

Sovereign Court

Makes sense on the skill vs die, every single weapon and most spells would need to be erratad

While looking over the characters I'm playing, I found another spelling correction to add.

--------------------

Class Decks

-Wizard-

Darago

Under his Roles, change “Darago (Nercromancer)” to “Darago (Necromancer)”

Those Rs are veeeery very sneaky.

I heard a rumor that Damiel almost dropped alchemy to become a cavalier!

Please mark the edits somehow if there will be any to the current pdf sheets.

Need of edit confirmed by recent FAQ:

--------------------

Class Decks

-Rogue-

Wu Shen

On the Prey Stalker role, change “Add 2 ([ ] 4) to your check to defeat a barrier ([ ] or close a location)” to “[ ] Add 2 ([ ] 4) to your check to defeat a barrier or close a location”.

--------------------

And although it's not official yet, based on this post by Mike:

--------------------

Class Decks

-Sorcerer-

Seoni

On the Tattooed Mystic role, change “you may draw 1 card ([ ] 2 cards)” to “you may draw 1 card ([ ] or 2 cards)”.

The character sheets have been updated and a lot of things have been fixed. Here is what is still on the list:

Edits Needed/Suggested:
--------------------

Rise of the Runelords

General Style Change: The check marks were removed from proficiency powers that characters like Valeros get automatically in the last update, but the boxes were not removed. It now looks like all characters need to take these feats to gain them.

What were the current changes in the sheets?

Were they marked somehow?
Will new physical character cards with updates be available?

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

pluvia33,

Thanks—you're correct about most of those. We won't be changing Lem, though, as we avoid making strictly cosmetic changes to the FAQ, and these sheets should only have updates that appear in the FAQ.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

Myfly,

The changes come by way of the FAQ.

Corrected cards for RotR will eventually—hopefully soon—be available as part of the errata decks at DriveThruCards; we won't be doing S&S errata decks for a while yet, as we're still figuring out what those issues are.

No worries. I'll go ahead and remove that one from the running list. Thank you for the hard work!

Chris, the watermarking is back on the character sheets. May we get this removed again, please?

Except on the final page in each file. Strange.

Paizo Glitterati Robot

D'oh. It turns out the tool we use for pushing the updates can be a bit temperamental and it's easy to flip the wrong switch. This should be fixed now.

Sweet! Almost every single thing I pointed out has been fixed. They look amazing. Thank you so much! The only lingering issue from my old list is that although Wu Shen now has to spend a power feat to get the power she used to get "for free" from the Pray Stalker role, the power feat box for "or close a location" was not removed, resulting in her having a total of 13 power feats in that role:

On the Prey Stalker role, change “[ ] Add 2 ([ ] 4) to your check to defeat a barrier ([ ] or close a location)” to “[ ] Add 2 ([ ] 4) to your check to defeat a barrier or close a location”.

Otherwise, awesome job! I'm glad that at least the empty check box for proficiency thing on the Runelords sheets got resolved quickly and am overjoyed that all of those other issues also got fixed. You guys are great! I may take a new, fresh look at the sheets to see if I can spot any more mistakes and I'll be sure to update the list when a significant number of new FAQ/errata come out, but for now, I am a very happy gamer and editor.

Thank you, this is great stuff.

May I suggest waiting a few days before sending the email advertising the availability of updated downloads? I find it is not rare for a file to get one or two quick updates just after a more significant one. With the current workflow, all the people who ever downloaded the character sheets got an email on 11/7 and if they downloaded right away but do not read the messageboards daily, now have out of date files because of the two subsequent silent updates.

Well, to be fair, as far as I know there was only one "silent" update. Chris' first comment was just letting everyone know about the initial update of the files that still had a bunch of mistakes (like leaving in the boxes without check marks for the Runelord characters that started with proficiencies). I know because I downloaded right after I got the email updated, then re-download after Chris' comment and was like, oh, that was just for the update that already happened....

There's probably a reason for the absence of promo (P) cards in the deck lists and they can be added on the blank line at the end of the boon lists but I was surprised not to find them.

On the Skull & Shackles deck list, the ally Master-at-Arms is listed on two lines (one for (B), and one for (C)) instead of a single one (as (B, C)) like other cards.

I think the promo cards aren't included simply because many people potentially won't have them. They don't want someone who has bought the whole game to look at the sheet and say "I'm missing some cards." The sheets have been that way since the original RotR sheets I believe. I use the blank line for promos and for loot. For promos, I write the name of the promo on the line. For loot, I write "loot" on the blank, record the number of loot of that type, and then mark it in the loot section as well. If a character has both loot and a promos, or more than one promo of a type, I record additional promos below the blank line.

Hawkmoon269 wrote:

Yes, this is probably the reason; I was surprised because (P) cards are explicitly mentioned in the rulebook and in Adventure Card Guild scenarios, but that's not a big deal. As you say, the blank line is perfect for promo cards.

(And honestly, until today, I was surprised to see a blank line on deck lists because I didn't know what to do with it.)

Grand Lodge

Since Promos are optional in the regular game and organized play, they have to be accounted for in some manner. Both in the rules and on deck lists.

Thanks Chris! (And sorry, as I'm going to start up another batch of edit discussions)

One of Ezren's Evoker power feats is this:
Add 2 to your Arcane check with the Force ([] or Acid and Cold) ([] or Electricity and
Fire) trait(s).

Chad's post says that it means to add 2 to your Force trait Arcane checks as opposed to adding 2 to your Arcane checks then add the Force trait. Also see this.

This seems to be a massive source of confusion for everyone, as the post 2 posts right after that one confused the wording and though it gave 2 to every Arcane check and the Force trait.

Nowadays this would be written as "Add 2 to your Arcane check if it has one of Force([] , Acid, Cold)([] , Electricity, or Fire) traits."

(wording is incorrect grammatically but you get my point)

But because of Vic's decree that RotR wording is used for RotR cards, we're stuck with the word "with".

I think this is a FAQ candidate, if not errata.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

As of S&S, we changed the phrase "with the X trait" to "that has the X trait." But we're not going to issue resolutions for sweeping style changes, as they affect way too many cards, yet are not mechanically any different. Also, if we did that, people would want them to appear in the upcoming errata deck, which would then become ludicrously unaffordable. If you're confused by the wording, just mentally substitute "that has" when you see "with."

Sorry, Vic, I thought about it some more; I'm okay with not having errata for it.

But I was confused; if I hadn't actually searched the forums, I would have probably thought that he did add 2 to all Arcane checks and the Force trait. The wording is subtle, and right after Chad's post clarification, somebody else also got it confused.

I'm less worried about me being confused; I know to search the forum archives for a clarification. Others may not know to do this. We may clash. I may only have the FAQ with me; they may be the table DM at the time (RotR Ezren is technically legal for OP). I guess that's my main worry; rules enforcement for an OP environment. Of course, you can make the argument that there isn't a tournament aspect to the OP environment, and therefore having a rules slip here and there isn't really a problem.

Is it okay to have an FAQ clarifying this without having any errata for it? Am I overstating the worry of this issue?

The Deck List (not card list, the one used for tracking your deck) has a typo in the Fighter Class Deck, Unearthly Aim has a typo (it's Uneathly Aim in the decklist)

Our philosophy is that you get so many ARRRRRs in the course of play, you don't need them in the character sheets.

Sovereign Court

That seems like a totally legitimate reason. Keep it as "Uneathly"

Grand Lodge

ARRRRR you sure?

Cleric Class Deck List has the spell "Consecrate", which should be "Consecration" (the Skinsaw Murders Divine spell)

Rogue Class Deck List has the "Deathbane Light Crossbow", which should have the +1 modifier on it.

We decided to change this spell's name to match the RPG, which has it as Consecrate. So we'll probably go back and rename it in Skinsaw, though we're in no hurry to do so.

Sovereign Court

Just have your goblins do it. We know you guys have some, we see them every time the site is down.

Fascinating. It had seemed to me that spell names had been specifically altered to be different from their names in the RPG. (Force Missile, Acid Dart, etc). Any reason for the change of heart?

Grand Lodge

The Open Gaming License, which many spells, monsters, magic items etc. fall under, is only valid for roleplaying games. The Pathfinder RPG was able to use their original names under the OGL, but those names don't extend to other products. So they had to rename many of them.

My guess is that Consecrate didn't actually fall under the OGL rules, so that was simply inconsistent naming on Paizo's end.

All of that is true. But sometimes we just like different names than the ones in the RPG, because the RPG names aren't what we want.

Case in point: Illuminate. The spell originally started as Faerie Fire, which is a phrase that originates with the Greek concept of fairy fire. We could certainly have used that phrase. But what we wanted was a Faerie Fire-like effect that was both Arcane and Divine. There's no justification for the druid spell Faerie Fire being Arcane, so we booted the name for something less tied to the concepts from the RPG.

Consecration was just me mistyping the name of the spell and never noticing for more than a year. Erik Mona did, though.

I noticed this one today. Poor Damiel seems to be plagued by technical errors, typos, and the like:

--------------------

Skull & Shackles

Damiel

Titles in his Cards List (Weapon, Spell, etc.) are misaligned, shifted downward one and a half lines.

--------------------

Sovereign Court

That's what happens when you inhale the fumes of all those potions. I bet you Damiel made his sheet himself.

The Deck Lists for the Class Deck character sheets (landscape checklists) don't indicate cards for which your set has multiple copies.

Ex: the Sorcerer Deck List says "Blessing of the Gods (B)" instead of "Blessing of the Gods (B) x4" or having the line appear 4 times.

It'd be nice to have that info on there in some way, like it is on the portrait card lists from the product pages.

Sovereign Court

I guess that could be helpful, but not really sure how considering what the character sheets are for. However, I'd bring that to a different request thread, since this is more for errors with the character sheets vs. requested features.

Well, I'm using them to track my Guild characters.

It's helpful to have the note there because as-is I can't use it as a checklist for which cards are available for a Guild character; I have to write numbers in the blanks. It's good to remember this before you check 10-12 boxes and then write numbers next to your Blessings. (And, if you're obsessive, go back and erase all the checkmarks and write 1s instead.)

I also can't use it at a glance to see which cards are available at the end of a session to know whether a card type is worth taking. There's also using it to know if/which card might be missing from my entire set of cards.

To me, it is an error of omission, just like a typo.

I've already fixed it for myself (by adding "x#" text to the appropriate lines in my combined Character Sheets/Deck List PDFs) but it'd probably be nice for others.
