Is there a possibility of in-game social backlash upon mercenaries who hire themselves out for real-world money?

Hum, we were using dollars because we don't know yet the value of the in game money of PFO, that's all. It's common to use dollars to talk about in game money. So when I'm talking about 600$, I'm talking about selling 600$ worth of goblin balls to hire mercenaries with the money.

But about your question, I never ever saw any social consequences for IRL money transactions in EvE. And geez there was.

I certainly hope there are very many things that happen in EVE--accepted and not--that won't be happening here.

@Jazzlvraz, regarding social backlash: I sort of don't see why there would be. Out-of-game payment would have the scent of pay-to-win, but like Audoucet says, I don't think it's materially different from funneling out-of-game cash through training tokens into coin.

I also think there might be coin brokers; people who slowly convert cash to coin, to get the best prices for training tokens. Such brokers could quickly delivery a lot of coin in game for cash outside of game (buyer beware!) and insulate the warring parties from accusation of pay-to-win.

In the end, will social backlash matter? The way auction houses are currently set up, there's no way to sell something in the market and blocking someone you don't like from buying it. Using an alt to bypass such a block would be simple.

Buying a character to turn the tide of a battle is amusing. Not only would you have to buy the character, train it up, but also have to equip it with something that matters... say T3 items.

Audoucet is right, recruiting mercenaries is money much better spent.

Well you will be disappointed. Nobody can do anything about it. If I want to pay someone with euros, you will never know it ever, and neither will GW.

Hard to ensure that, though.

Well you know, most of the time, that kind of things are decided by the leader.

For example, I'm a cosmetic ho'. I wouldn't spend a lot of money for a powerful sword, but a beautiful sword, well...

And I fell in love with a WoW mount, a few weeks ago. Except it was on Garrosh, but not with the LFR tool. And I'm absolutely not interested in going back to my raiding 5/7 years. Well, I just gave 10$ to a guy who let me come as a pickup in his guild run, asking me not to talk about it to his guild.

Well, we did fine. Obviously, betrayal can happen, but if you go that way, just turn off the servers and trust no one.

Just checking - does anyone have a link to the Fighter Training to 8 Level thread? It might be in the Alpha forums; dunno.

Excellent, thanks, Caldeathe. Just wanted a starting point as I work through the new charts.
