Well two years have gone by and I loved playing in USEPLANB's ROTRL's campaign. Now it's my turn to GM. The setting is in Magnimar. The players will start out as neighborhood friends, kids. Usually doing just what their parents told them not to do, play around Under Bridge.

That's where they meet a "rival" gang of misfits. It's a start. We'll begin the fun next Tuesday. I hope the players write up the back stories that they've already shared with each other.

This is not an AP driven adventure so we'll see how it goes.

Hopefully USEPLANB will help me fill in the gaps.

Hello my name is Sam. I am seven years old. I live in Magnimar. I have a bunch of friends. I call two of my friends Huge and Dickory. Huge is a very big kid. Dickory has a metal hat and a stick horse named Hickory and a pet dragon we call Doc. The pet dragon can talk! I live above my papas shop next to the bazaar of sails. Papa buys stuff off of the ships in the harbor and then sells it to people who come in the shop. Mama helps him and cooks and cleans and teaches me to read and rite. She says I am very smart. Everyone else says I am cute.

My friends and me have a secrit. Sometimes we go and play under the bridge where mama and papa say I shouldn’t go. It is very dark under the big brige but its fun too even though it smells bad sometimes.

My mama and papa have a secrit to. They whisper about our family curse. They say that if I manifest that I will have to go and be with my uncle Boris in Chelleaxe. My uncle Boris is funny but scary. He always smiles and laughs and says funny things but his eyes are hard and meen. He wore big robes and smelled like spices when he came to visit. He looked at me a long time with his scary eyes before he went away again.

I have a secrit too. I can do a magic trick! Mama and papa don’t know I can do it. I won’t tell them cause they are afraid of magik. My frends don’t know either. Maybe I will tell them someday. They think magik is neat. I do too.

Birgun Ulfgaght:
Initial background
Birgun Ulfgaght is the only son of Olaf and Hilde Ulfgaght. He was born at sea while his family sailed south from Kalsgard in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings to Magnimar. His father being a copper merchant meant that Birgun was born into relative comfort. His mother was a typical Ulfen wife, which meant stern, tall and beautiful. A favored rumor that Birgun was told by an oft visiting uncle was that Olaf had upset Hilde before they were a couple and that she had knocked his father unconscious with just her fist. Unsure if the rumor was true, Olaf and Hilde never confirmed the story as fact, but always smiled when it was told.

Their home was large but modestly furnished and kept clean and warm by the constant attention of Hilde. Olaf spent most of his time at sea sailing between Magnimar and Kalsgard, guaranteeing that the families coffers were always full. Even though other families on their street had either live-in servants or those that worked in their households and would leave in the evenings, Hilde would not allow any such nonsense. Keeping up on the chores was hers and Birgun’s duties while Olaf was away on business. Many times Birgun was reminded of his duties by a iron skillet wielding mother.

Like most Ulfen children, Birgun grew quickly and it wasn’t long before he towered over his friends. None of them were of Ulfen descent and eventually he gained the nickname, “Birgun the Huge.” Birgun spent most of his time with his friends watching the constant ebb and floe of ships at Magnimar’s ports, waiting for his fathers ship to arrive home. On occasion they even scouted about in Underbridge when the rains fell or whenever all of them were together. It wasn’t odd to see Birgun out in front of the others, a large wooden sword gripped tightly in his hands. The sword wasn’t more than a wealthy kids club but, in Birgun’s hands he felt comforted and focused.

Okay, the fun stuff. I plan on playing a Druid of Gorum. I had fallen in love with Gorum when I had played in a Second Darkness campaign a few years back with another group of guys. Back then I had played a Half-orc Cleric/Urban Barbarian. Reading all the fluff I have, I loved the idea of the "rare metal clad druids" Paizo had described. But as we all know, druids and metal do not get along. So to me the idea that there are guys who worship Gorum, are druids, and put on metal armor only to loose their spells, spell-like abilities and supernatural abilities seemed kinda silly if you wanted to play said class. So I built a archetype of druid that follows our Lord in Iron. Once that was done I refined it with the help of some munchkins I know and even had the GMs son, who loves druids look it over. I wanted to make sure it was viable but not broken. So I have included the class here for others to look at.

Druid of Gorum:

“The truest follower of Gorum is the druid, because in nature, every living thing fights to live another day in a neverending war against death itself.—Birgun Ulfgaght”

Hit Die: d8

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Class Skills
The druid’s class skills are Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Heal (Wis), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (geography) (Int), Knowledge (history) (Int), Knowledge (nature) (Int), Perception (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), Spellcraft (Int), Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str).

Skill Ranks Per Level: 4 + Int modifier.

Base Attack Bonus: 3/4, same as Druid class

Saves: Medium?, same as Druid class

Spells: Reduced spell casting, same as Inquisitor/Warpriest, etc.

Class Features
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Druids of Gorum are proficient in all Simple weapons, spiked armor and the Greatsword, preferring metal weapons over all others. They are also proficient with all natural attacks (claw, bite, and so forth) of any form they assume with wild shape (see below).

Druids of Gorum are proficient with all armor (heavy, medium and light) and shields (except tower shields).

Spells: A druid casts divine spells, which are drawn from the druid spell list. Her alignment may restrict her from casting certain spells opposed to her moral or ethical beliefs; see Evil, Good, and Lawful Spells. A druid must choose and prepare her spells in advance.
To prepare or cast a spell, the druid must have a Wisdom score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a druid’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the druid’s Wisdom modifier.

Like other spellcasters, a druid can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Her base daily spell allotment is given above. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Wisdom score.

A druid must spend 1 hour each day in a trance-like meditation, thinking on the glories of Gorum to regain her daily allotment of spells. A druid may prepare and cast any spell on the druid spell list, provided that she can cast spells of that level, but she must choose which spells to prepare during her daily meditation.

Spontaneous Casting: A druid can channel stored spell energy into cure spells that she hasn’t prepared ahead of time. She can “lose” a prepared spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same level or lower.

Orisons (Sp): Druids can prepare a number of orisons, or 0-level spells, each day, as noted above under “Spells per Day.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again.

Bonus Languages: In addition to the languages of her race a druid of Gorum also knows Druidic, a secret language known only to druids, which she learns upon becoming a 1st-level druid. Druidic is a free language for a druid; that is, she knows it in addition to her regular allotment of languages and it doesn’t take up a language slot. Druids are forbidden to teach this language to nondruids. Druidic has its own alphabet.

Focus Weapon: Starting at 1st level, a druid of Gorum receives Weapon Focus with greatswords as a bonus feat. The druid of Gorum does not need to meet the prerequisites for this feat.

Iron Attuned (Ex): Starting at 1st level, a druid of Gorum forms an everlasting bond with the earth and the Lord in Iron. This bond grants the druid one of the following cleric domains: Chaos, Destruction, Earth, Glory, Strength, or War. Subdomains include: Blood, Ferocity, Metal, Protean, Rage, Resolve, and Tactics. When determining the powers and bonus spells granted by this domain, the druid’s effective cleric level is equal to her druid level. The druid also receives additional domain spell slots, just like a cleric. She must prepare the spell from her domain in this slot and this spell cannot be used to cast a spell spontaneously.

Intimidating Presence (Ex): Starting at 2nd level, a druid of Gorum gains a +2 bonus to Intimidate and Sense Motive.

Woodland Stride (Ex): Starting at 3rd level, a druid of Gorum may move through any sort of undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, and similar terrain) at her normal speed and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment. Thorns, briars, and overgrown areas that have been magically manipulated to impede motion, however, still affect her.

Trackless Step (Ex): Starting at 4th level, a druid leaves no trail in natural surroundings and cannot be tracked. She may choose to leave a trail if so desired.

Resist Nature’s Wrath (Ex): Starting at 5th level, a druid gains a +4 bonus on saving throws against the spell-like and supernatural abilities of fey. This bonus also applies to spells and effects that target metal, such as rusting grasp, and heat metal.

Wild Shape (Su): At 5th level, a druid of Gorum gains the ability to turn herself into any small or Medium animal and back again once per day. Her options for new forms include all creatures with the animal type. This ability functions like the beast shape I spell, except as noted here. The effect lasts for 1 hour per druid level, or until she changes back. Changing form (to animal or back) is a standard action and doesn’t provoke an attack of opportunity. The form chosen must be that of an animal the druid is familiar with.

A druid of Gorum loses her ability to speak while in animal form because she is limited to the sounds that a normal, untrained animal can make, but she can communicate normally with other animals of the same general grouping as her new form.

A druid of Gorum can use this ability an additional time per day at 8th level and every three levels thereafter, for a total of five times at 17th level. At 20th level, a druid of Gorum can use wild shape at will. As a druid of Gorum gains in levels, this ability allows the druid to take on the form of larger and smaller animals and earth elementals. Each form expends one daily usage of this ability, regardless of the form taken.

At 8th level, a druid of Gorum can use wild shape to change into a Large or Tiny animal, or a Small earth elemental. When taking the form of an animal, a druid’s wild shape now functions as beast shape II. When taking the form of an earth elemental, the druid’s wild shape functions as elemental body I.

At 11th level, a druid of Gorum can use wild shape to change into a Huge or Diminutive animal, or a Medium earth elemental. When taking the form of animals, a druid’s wild shape now functions as beast shape III. When taking the form of an elemental, the druid’s wild shape now functions as elemental body II.

At 14th level, a druid of Gorum can use wild shape to change into a Large earth elemental. When taking the form of an earth elemental, the druid’s wild shape now functions as elemental body III.

At 17th level, a druid of Gorum can use wild shape to change into a Huge earth elemental. When taking the form of an earth elemental, the druid’s wild shape now functions as elemental body IV.

Armored Hide (Su): At 8th level, the druid of Gorum has the ability to transform the armor that she wears into barding that accomodates her animal or earth elemental form when using wild shape. The barding adds an equivalent AC rating to the armor being transformed. This barding will revert itself back into normal armor when the druid changes back.

Venom Immunity (Ex): At 10th level, a druid of Gorum gains immunity to all poisons.

Earth Mastery (Ex): At 13th level, a druid of Gorum gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls if both she and her foe are touching the ground. If an opponent is airborne or waterborne, the druid of Gorum takes a –4 penalty on attack and damage rolls. These modifiers apply to bull rush and overrun maneuvers, whether the druid of Gorum is initiating or resisting these kinds of attacks.

Iron Body (Sp): At 16th level, a druid of Gorum can transform herself into living iron as per the Iron Body spell. This form can be maintained while in animal or elemental form. The duration of this ability is 1 min/level and must be used in 1 minute increments.

Backstory from the player that brought you Sheldor the Snow Elf

Atz Harrigfuss
I live in a fairly “good” part of town in the city called Magnimar. My parents are strict but fair folks who are always looking out for my well being and safety since we are littlest of people amongst the humans, barely half of their size and I am even smaller. My name is Atz Haarigfuss.

I used to have a grandfather who lived with us, he was my father’s dad, Gramps was a lot of fun and we spent hours together fishing at the pier and him spinning yarns about of our kin and some of the significant acts of bravery and accomplishments they are credited with way back in the day. Sadly he passed away last year in the spring.

It wasn’t too long after we buried Gramps that one day while I was visiting his grave, I was attacked and thrown into a box and placed in a freshly dug grave by some evil, I am guessing Underbridge ruffians and left for dead. Being as small as I am, they easily bested me. I was bound by my hands and in total darkness. Terror came over me as I knew, no one would find me and I would surely die. It was when I called out to Gramps in my state of panic that something happened. It was like he was there with me, comforting me, calming me down. We talked like we used to and I was soon at peace in my situation because he was with me. Suddenly he was gone, the grave diggers had come back to finish the hole that they had started and freed me from my tomb. It had been what seemed like hours. I ran home and never told my parents what had happened. It was my and Gramps’ secret.

I am somehow different now, I have changed and I can’t really describe it. Since that life altering day, I always have with me a short but stout staff for vicious dogs and other vermin. I have become quite handy with it too. I am ready for any other ruffians and Gramps is too. He told me so.

OK, if Atz turns out to be a gnome summoner whose eidolon is his dead grandfather, I'm just going to squee.

Have I mentioned I LOVE your group!

...aaand we're off again! This looks like it's gonna be good. You guys are lucky...

I would say the group's greatest blessing is that they're all willing to contribute to the writing of the tale.

You might have noticed that even when I tried to emulate Useplanb's journal approach, Leilani was the only one who posted.

So this week we're doing post-RotRL roleplay tonight, Wrath of the Righteous tomorrow night, and Jade Regent on Saturday.

But at 4-6 hours per writeup for me, we're talking 15 hours a week of writing. Combined with work, 2 kids, and running 4 games a week, the hours just don't add up.

So more than anything else, I bless the group for all contributing to the writing, keeping the onus off of the GM, who has enough on his plate without having to write.

(I'm not bitter -- I LOVE to write. I just feel guilty when I see I'm over a dozen sessions behind on my journals and I'm running 3 more games this weekend...)

Actually Atz is going to be an Halfling Oracle with the Ancestor mystery. Which was funny considering he got to see first hand what that was with Ceoptra.

Nobody, we've been doing this a LONG time; I think Mordean Gray started the journal thing in a Hero System Planescape game nearly twenty years ago (we were still playing in the back room of the local gamestore then), and it has always been tied to some minor in-game reward. In that game, I think it was an extra experience point, in Useplanb's RotRL game it was a single d20 reroll. So, us munchkins who like our extra stuff have just gotten into the habit.

I've remarked in the past that we all just naturally follow the rule of improv, that there is no denial. If someone writes it, that is what happened. Doesn't mean that another character might not remember it differently, but we all try not to contradict one another. It really adds to the story if you're not arguing all the time about who did what when.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

LOL. Yes, even our GM says, "Well, what Leilani BELIEVES and what actually happened are two different things. So she can write whatever she wants, but that doesn't mean it really happened!"

Her journal is caught up because I don't have to worry about things like rules or fact-checking. She just writes whatever pops into her little pea brain.

It's far more fun to write that way, I have to admit!

egads! no wonder no one reads these, they're way, way down towards the bottom:(

Are you kidding? When my RotRL thread got thrown down here I thought I'd lost a couple hundred hours of work!

I still don't understand why they don't leave the AP-specific campaign journals in the AP sections, but since this one is home brew it's where it belongs. Though now that you're here I'm sure we'll hit 1000 posts soon enough...

It was just the shock of having to scroll down thru ye olde playtests and everything to find the journals:)
i generally havent explored the messageboards, i primarily stick to the AP boards, they're way less combative (wrath excluded;)
these look great tho

Ahoy there! My names Lugh…Lugh MæGethlyn (Loo Magethlin). I’m from Dockway straight up from the cross pier and below Naos. Pop moors up at the cross pier. Pops is a fisherman, he is the bravest man I know. He was a soldier a long time ago before my oldest jerk of a brother was born. I have seen his shield and spear stowed in a hold he does not use for fish. He is strong, and a hard worker. Lots of days his hands are cut up and bloody from cuttin fish and handlin the nets but he never complains. My Pops is the toughest man I know. Once, I saw him fight two guys with a harpoon without using the sharp end. He bashed and smashed them and almost poked one of them while they lay on the ground till he saw us boys watchin from the deck. I don’t think they knew who my Poppa was. He has a big scar on one leg, another on the other shoulder, and a hands worth of smaller hole shaped scars front and back. He says they’re from fish bites but I’m too old to believe that any more. He wears a bronze bracelet with the number 17 on it, and when soldiers see my Poppa they salute him and yell “HAROO 17th!” but he will not talk to me or my brothers about being a soldier. He only talks about those days with other old soldiers that know his name. His name is Tycho.

My Mama’s name is Desmalynda. She is kind and tough. A mother of nine children that still makes time for every one of us. Poppa calls her Desma, he loves her and always tells her he would gather the stars in the sky and have them sewn into a silken gown if she so desired. Mama is pretty, her skin is always light brown, not like Poppas. She is tall with dark eyes and long black hair. Mama says her Nana was an elf blood and the most beautiful of her sisters. She taught me to write words and count numbers, she is smarter than my Poppa but don’t tell him I said that! I like to learn new words from Mama and she enjoys teachin me. She tells me of all her boys I am the only one that wants to learn her ways. I guess since I am the middle brother they didn’t spend as much time with Mama as I did. My sisters are all older than me but younger than my big brothers. They help Mama with the house, meals, chores and raisin my younger brat brothers. Mama talks a lot about her God. She calls her the Dawnflower and tells excitin stories about her. Mama says she has told the Dawnflower about me and that we should go visit her together, but Poppa says no.

This was my first year to fish with my Poppa and big brothers. My brothers are mean and stupid and make me do all the stuff they don’t wanna do. Sometimes we do a lot of rowing when the wind is still. They complain too much and Poppa thumps them or pushes them into the sea when he has had enough, they aren’t very smart! I try so hard to help Poppa with the nets, or with a gaff, or harpoon, but mostly he tells me to stand away or to be a good lookout.

When I am not working with Pops I run around with a bunch of friends from my part of town. We are about the same age. Some of them don’t even work so they don’t come by very much cuz Poppa makes them work. My Poppa doesn’t care for some of them and doesn’t hide it. He won’t let some of them in our house but Mama always feeds them and lets them sleep on the floor if they need a safe place to stay no matter what Poppa says! We run all over, except Underbridge. Pops beat the pants off one of my brothers for hangin around with some older guys from Underbridge. He said they are no-good and trouble makers that will make you do bad things, or sell you to slavers, or eat you up! I worry about my friends because they wanna go hang out around Underbridge sometimes. We have already had to lie about going once. The girl in our group kept teasin some Underboys and we had to tussle with them to get away. One of our guys got a busted lip and I went home with him and told his Mama I did it and told her I was sorry. I don’t like doing that, but it’s better than our folks knowin we had a scrap with the Underboys! One of my buddies is a stunty, a tiny boy! He is a nice guy and a good friend, I watch out for him. Mama likes him too, she feeds him a lot! I think she’s hopin he’ll grow bigger like me!

14 friends. At times this army of younglings ventures into parts of Magnimar best suited for older folks. Thier number keeps the Creepers and Snatchers away. They've searched all of Magnimar to find adventure and new and amazing shops.

They help newcomers find what they need for coin and tales of lands far away. Careful to stay away from street toughs and thieves. They are rewarded well for their efforts.

Did you limit them on races with similar life spans? Or is that one of those happy coincidences that make your life easier:)

No limits. No race limits, just young. I didn't want to get caught up in specific ages. They've put that in on their own.

My parents don't approve of my friends. They want me to be more lady like and stay around the house but I love running around town with my friends. It's exciting, not like all the boring parties my mom puts on.

There are several boys that I like and we all get along for the most part. One of the boys has a pet dragon. He's not really a dragon but I'll never tell. They're fun to play with.

Kelyn is strange. He feels he needs to be a great wizard like the rest of his family, so does Epher but Kelyn and I are better at other things like climbing and playing hide and seek.

We often hide together and are never found by the others.

The best part about my friends is they treat me just like any other kid.

I know my avatar doesn't represent my true nature, Rakshasa but I have a hard enough time with my mom reminding me all the time. How special it is and that I shouldn't run around like a human. Blaw blaw blaw. Okay mom, I'll be back before dark. I promise this time, for real.

Wait. I was just remind, there was a race limit. No goblins for my PC's. Two picked goblin right away. They were disappointed. LOL

Alright I get to be silly again and bring back one of my favorite characters from 3.5.
Vexarious the Kobold, starting from slightly more humble beginnings this time around.

-As I understand it, I was bought in one of Magnimar’s marketplaces.... well to be fair my egg was bought in the marketplace. a young Macer Dorn was shopping with his parents and bought what his parents believed to be simply an egg shaped rock, but he believed it was a dragon's egg. Then after he cared for the egg a few weeks, out popped a wee dragon, me!

That's been about four years ago now. We have lots of fun, Macer and I, we like to play that I'm an evil dragon tormenting the town, gathering a horde, and then the valiant knight comes riding in on his noble steed and we battle. When we are with his friends we like to mess with newcomers to the city, or sometimes we sneak down to what they call underbridge. It can get scary, but there are some other kids we like to play with, and that's were all the adventure is. Besides I must admit, I prefer the shade of the bridge, my eyes don't hurt like they do in the sunlight. Oh, and I have wings too, but they aren't very strong yet. At best I can keep myself from falling too fast...sometimes. I can't breath fire yet either, but I'm sure that will come when I’m bigger.

Lots of the adults look at Macer and me kinda funny sometimes, muttering something about cob old, or co-bold, something like that. I don't know what that means, but I like the way co-bold sounds, but really, who's going to mess with a kid with a dragon?

my name is Kelyn Morrn and I'm told that I am seven. Can't say for sure as I was pretty young when I got here, so can only consider this heresay. Have several brothers and sisters, all older than me. They tend to be very serious and study lots of old, smelly books. I read alot, but somehow I end up outside or on the roof, so I have a hard time finishing. Father disapproves. Mother says I'm her special joy, Father says I'm a late surprise; then he gives me a look. My brothers and sisters aren't bad, but they say I'm always underfoot and in their way, even when I climb up in the rafters. I do all I can to be like them and help, but after the exploding ink incident, I think Aelwyn turned me into a frog. It might just be dreams after a real spicy meal, but everything tasted like flies for several days. Some may wonder how I know what flies taste like, but I did say that I have older brothers. Mother and Father are powerful spellcasters from Taldor, and after travelling many places, settled in Magnimar to "get rich and raise a crop of mages"(Father's words). Mother has worked hard to teach me some things, but I think the gods were short of magic the day I got here. Father just gives me those looks. I have good friends to spend time with when I'm done with my chores and jobs, mostly. We play and explore elsewhere because Father doesn't approve and Aldryk calls Vex a Sudodragon and talks about making him a familiar. Sometimes, I get coins for errands that keep me "out of peoples hair". I don't know how I would get into hair, or why this would be a good idea. Nina has really nice, silky hair. She has hair every................. I try not to make Bronwyn mad. A goblin surprised her when we were down by the docks and he exploded and I don't think all the pieces ever came down. I wonder what they eat that makes them smell like that, maybe it wasall that fire. My friends and I play with some other kids, but some of them are real bossy and laugh alot when they do mean stuff. They must be somebody else's big brothers. I like spending time with Nina because she is very smart and not a loud klutz like those others. She's nice and has beautiful fur.......... Underbridge is sort of scary, but we're getting pretty good at dodging the smelly guys down there and finding interesting places. I don't think Father would consider this a proper career choice, so I guess it's back to reading musty books. Did I mention Nina has the most beautiful, pointy-toothed smile............. Father scowls if I talk about her, mumbling something about litters running loose in the house. I don't know what he's talking about, we don't get pets like Macer(I guess familiars don't count, they just smell and bite). Mother says I'll grow up and understand everything; how long does THAT take?

GothBard hates aasimar. But I'd already built Leilani as a back-up character for our Carrion Crown campaign, and as a GM for 4 and a player in only 1, she felt she had to accommodate me.

Cue an aasimar with no darkvision and no elemental resistances, but she's still a blast to play!

Hi, My name is Epher, Epher Ancin. I live in Magnimar, my family is wealthy and we live in a very nice neighborhood. I don't know what my folks do other than go to meetings and social get togethers (party's). When I'm older I'll have to go to the wizards college and learn how to handle magic. My mom thinks I'm special but I don't feel anything that would make me special.

I like playing with my friends. Nina and Felu are from my neighborhood but Arryn, Edwan and Baga are from Underbridge. That's the bad part of Magnimar. Baga is part Orc and people don't much care for his kind. I like him because he's strong and no one messes with us. He has another friend that only I have met. He is a goblin from the sewers. Baga calls him Lugdog Urzgak and he is very sneaky. I don't think he really likes me but Bags says Lugdog won't hurt me or my friends.

More to come.

My name is Baga.
I don't like the rest of this city but down here under the big bridge I like it. One day I will be big and strong and everyone will know who I am.

Every one hates Lugdog. But Lugdog make new friends and uses them to help Lugdog. New friends are mostly pink skins. Lugdog fool pink skins into helping with plan. Great big plan of Lugdog. Must be careful. Must not hurt pink skins, yet. Time plenty for that.

Nina told me I should at least say hi, "Hi".

My name is Felu Waeglo, I'm a friend of Nina's. We met at a party last year. She is different like me, well not in the same way we are just different than most folks around Magnimar. We have great friends. Some from our side of town and some from the under side of town. One of Nina's friends has a baby dragon. I like the dragon, he can speak. We have good times playing.

My name is Macer, Macer Dorn, and I'm seven years old.

I live with my parents in a big city called Magnimar. We live in a little house down the hill from the big fancy houses where the rich people live.

My dad works for The Lord Mayor of our city. My dad's name is Mikos Dorn and he is an officer in the city guard. He works hard to keep our city safe. He protects the rich people and their big homes from the "no goods" who try to steal their stuff. Dad wears armor and carries a spear and a real sword when he goes to work. His sword is shiny and sharp! (I cut myself a little once when I was playing with it...don't tell my dad or I'll get a whuppin'.)

My mom is named Ellan. She is really pretty and nice. She stays home and takes care of me and my little sister, Mira. My sister is only three so she's still a little kid.

When I grow up I want to be a brave knight with a real sword and a big horse. Daddy says I'm still too little for a real sword, so he made me a wooden sword and and stick horse named Hickory so I can play with my friends. Sometimes I even borrow one of momma's metal pots to wear as a helmet. She says she doesn't mind as long as I don't take her good one.

My friends are really nice. Sam, Birgun, Lugh, Kelyn, and Atz all like to play with me and pretend we are heroes. We just met some new kids who like to play down under the big bridge where it is always in the shadows. I think mom and dad would be mad if they knew we played down there. It's kinda scary sometimes, but that's what makes it fun!

My favorite thing in the whole world is my dragon! His name is Vex and he hatched from a dragon egg my parents bought me at the market a few years ago. Momma had always read stories about heroes and dragons to me when I was a little kid like my sister. I knew that some day I'd have a dragon of my own, and then it happened! I found the dragon egg in the market and begged my parents to buy it for me from the man who had it in a basket with some other things that looked like rocks. Momma said it wasn't a real dragon egg, but she bought it for me anyway. I took it home and kept it warm under some blankets and a few weeks later IT HATCHED!!!

Momma was real surprised when it hatched and there was a little dragon inside. She wasn't sure if I could keep it, but I begged her and promised to take care of it. Dad finallly told her to let me try because it would be a good lesson about being responsible.

Vex is getting bigger now, and he goes everywhere with me and my friends. The new kids like Vex, too. There is a pretty girl named Felu with the new kids. She really likes Vex and always plays with us and brings treats for Vex.

Well, I gotta go now. Sam and Birgun just stopped by and said it's time to go on our next adventure!

Bye for now.

Macer

Momma moved to Magnimar a couple years ago. At the time I had no real idea why we moved. But now that I am older and wiser, having just turned ten, I figure it has to do with the whispering. There is always whispering wherever Momma goes, mostly from other ladies, noble women, and even women from merchant families. You see the problem is that Momma is beautiful, maybe even beyond beautiful. She inspires rumors. She summons up jealousy like a witch calls their familiar. But Momma holds herself above all that, which to be honest makes it worse.

It doesn't help that father is never around. If I were to believe the rumors, he doesn't even exist. But I have seen him, late at night and only at night. Momma says that father is a great sorcerer, but I know there is more to it than that. Even the whispers in the market seem to hint there is more to it than that. I see hesitation, even a touch of fear, when talking about father. I suspect that is why everyone leaves Momma and me alone.

And that is where the problems for me and Momma begin and end. We are lonely. Momma has it worse than I do. When father is around she all but glows, but that is a rare thing. The rest of the time, she retires to her rooms for days at a time. When she is around, she is quiet and even aloof. But for me, there is really nobody. The servants don't really know what to do with me, and they don't really care anyway.

So, I get to run around on my own. I have to be careful though cause I am pretty like Momma (well, I hope I am that pretty -- I'm sure I will be that way some day). Plus, I am a strong-willed, fierce scrapper. Lately, I been running around with some boys in the neighborhood. They seem to put up with me. Sometimes, I think they are just trying to get a glimpse of Momma. But, they are closest thing I have had to friends ever, so I don't say anything about it. I'm careful not to catch their parents' attention. Not sure if they would let me hang around if they put two and two together and figured out who my parents are.

For now, I am having adventures with the boys... Let the battles BEGIN!

I hurried through the morning chores and saw Pops and my brothers off at the pier, castin off the lines, watchin them turn into the wind, waved to Poppa and ran off to meet my friends. I caught up with them just a before they made the span. We milled around asking each other what we wanted to do until someone came up with the bright idea to climb down into one of the pier columns to see if the rumors of a haunting were true! Just about the time we made our collective decision to go forward with this awful plan one of the guards started givin us “the business.” Lucky for us Macer’s dad is a guard too, and that made little work of us getting hassled any more.

After he went away the whole gang began our decent. It was mostly effortless, and for the number of us making our way down we finished really fast! However I stopped for a sec in the window because I would swear I saw light coming from inside the old temple of Mamma’s Goddess…NO REALLY! Everyone else was in too much of a hurry to look and too worried about getting ate by a ghost. The whole time Sam and the others were goin on about ghosts and squeezixes and spooks and goblins, “GEEBLES! Shuttup, we just got here!” We went from room to room, and found a bag with a rope and hook, fire startin stuff and torches and candles for light, and some BAD food that Dragon gobbled up-BLECH! Then we found some good food, fresh bread, cheese and dried fish. Sam and I had an early lunch leaving the fish for Dragon. Being the son of the fisherman, dried fish is a waste of a good fish! Then we went out into the stair way. Huge slurped a long hocker way down between the stairs farther than anyone else I’ve ever seen, and sucked it back up, THAT WAS AWESOME! Then we went to the next floor and started to check the rooms there. We found a bunch of locked doors and then we found one unlocked. Huge checked it and quickly slammed it shut. He said he saw a spider! “DID IT MOVE? WAS IT BIG?” When he said spider I thought it was, ya know, a spider. So when he slowly opened the door and poked about with his sword and torch, I pushed him in. HOLY LIGHT that thing was…HUGE! It was half our size or bigger but lucky for us it was already dead! We looked all over it! It had a burn mark in its head and all that was left was its dried hard husk of hard shell. What was left was empty, so we all called dibs on the pieces we wanted and headed out to another room. At the next door Huge said he heard a noise, but he was the only one. Kelyn started to unlock the latch and Huge stopped him, then a creepy voice began to speak in a strange language and spooky things began to happen! We heard doors slam above and below us, then we heard footsteps approaching from below and that was all it took for our motley crew to bolt for the way out-IN? Falling, jumping and climbing over each other, pushing and pie-facing our way up the stairs in a panicked fit of fear and laughter! Helping one another over obstacles and making for the climb out and up to the span I paused once again to see the light coming from the temple of the Dawnflower only this time Dragon was a witness. We all made it out, scared and breathless many of us looked over the edge more than once to be sure we weren’t followed! Then someone said they had seen a goblin comin out the same way we did. “NUH-UH! Well where is it, where’d it go?” We settled down and told our stories of courage and laughed at each others stumbles when Nina said she would buy us all treats! Off we raced to the bizarre for free treats!

While we were gobblin our goodies we found out that people would pay money for our spider bits and many of our band jumped at the money. THEY GOT 20 CROWN A PIECE FOR EACH BIT! I was not about to sell my piece! If my Pop ever got wind of me doin that OH what he’d do to me! I did go in and get the money for Kelyn but I made it clear it was for one of my buddies and made a scene of getting his money to him. I decided to take my tubular piece and cut a bracer or bracelets from them using some of the dressing tools at the pier when everyone was headin for home.

We decided to meet up after lunch at the clock tower in Underbridge of all places. I can feel the beatings Poppa will give me already! But I thought maybe we could sneak a peek at the temple to see if the light was really there! Most of us gathered by the cross pier and ran off to our doom, slowing a bit once we reached the bridge, Dragon helped me guide to guys towards the temple. The whole way I recited the spooky story Mamma had told me about the old temple. I stopped at the locked gate checked out the grounds for lurkers and snuck through the old iron fence gate. We ran around to the back and saw the three grave stones of the priests Mamma told me about. Kelyn found the back door unlocked and opened it up. We could see light coming from the chapel. We approached slowly and found a holy symbol shining so bright and pretty just like Mamma said it would be! It was AWESOME, Mamma was tellin the truth the whole time! “Hi my name is Lugh MæGethlyn, my Mamma, Desmalynda, told me all about you. You are the Dawnflower, the compassionate redeemer, the light in the dark, fountain of strength and glory; defender of life, Mamma told me ALL ABOUT YOU!” With that said I said I was ready to leave and everyone filed out. Once I was the last one out I grabbed a few coins from my pocket and placed them on the altar and made the sign of respect Mamma taught me, told the Dawnflower goodbye and chased after my friends. I was amazed at what I had just seen, Mamma told me how beautiful she was, but I didn’t realize….I think I am the only one who saw what I saw! How do I tell Mamma? Suddenly we met up with another of our clan and quickly headed for the clock tower all so she can see the inside for herself. Boy I hope this turns out OK!!!

Tonight the kids got word to meet at the Golem Works. Sam and Birgun started gathering the gang. They started with Lugh but he was with is dad and brothers fishing so they told one of his sisters where they'd be if he got back in time. They then found Macer and Vex playing in Macer's yard and gathered them up.Then went to Felu's house and then to Nina's. Both girls could come play but had to be home for lunch. They then went to Atz, again he was busy with cleaning his room, much to his dismay and whining he couldn't go play today. To many chores. They stopped by Oona's house and were told by the servants that they didn't know where she was but would let her know they stopped by. Birgun asked that she relay a message to her that they'd be at or near the Golem Works. The servant said she would if she saw her. They left Oona's and headed to Kelyn's.

Kelyn was eager to go so off they all ran to meet up with Epher, Arryn, Edwan and Baga. When they arrived Epher said that he knew a way to enter the Gecko. The Gecko is one of the big pillars that hold up the giant bridge, one that is known for being haunted. Sam was a little skeptical. Epher said he just wanted to see if it was true or not, they wouldn't have to go in. The kids agreed and off they went.

They were stopped by one of the city guard's and as Sam was explaining that they were just playing Lugh came running up from behind the guard. The guard warned Macer that he better not get into any trouble or his father would find out and deal with him. The kids knew that the guard was just joking but Macer shyly said "Yes sir" as if he was thinking of the whupping he'd get if his dad found out what they were really up to.

They headed to the other side of the bridge as soon as the guard was out of sight. Sneaking along the edge of the bridge Epher spotted a hole in the wall, just big enough for the kids to crawl through. There was enough of a foot path (kids size) to climb down the side of the bridge. As the last one crawled through the hole Oona came running up and spotted them. At first she thought that some one had fallen but soon discovered that all of the kids were walking on a crack of a path down the side of the bridge and fallowed.

Kelyn and Nina found a way for the group to safely get down to a carved statue of a large Gecko near the top of the column (250 feet above ground) The height didn't bother anyone because they had a good path and they were to excited to notice. As it turned out Kelyn and Nina had to position themselves along the path where they had to climb down to the Gecko's tail and over its back up to it's head to reach a hexagon window, high up on the column.

It was here that Lugh saw a light way down and over at the shrine to his mothers God, The Dawnflower. The only shrine here in Magnimar to that God. He made a mental note and continued on.

Macer was the first to reach the window. He could see a pack and a sack on the stone floor but stayed outside. As more of the group climbed over the Gecko it got to crowded on the window's ledge so Macer and his dragon hoped in. It was only 4 feet to the floor from the window and he surveyed the room before he jumped in. The sack had rotten food stuff's so he left it and searched the contents of the pack (dumping the contents onto the floor).

Some more of the group started hopping in as he shouted out the content's of the pack (Rope with a grappling hook, spikes, hammer and couple of torches with flint and steel). Kelyn and Nina asked for the rope and spikes and hammer and made a hand hold back to where it was easy to climb without any help. When all was said and done they still had about thirteen feet of rope in the room and the hook. Birgun checked the only door in the room and found it open. He found that it could be locked with a sliding bar from the other side. In the next room he found a table with a candle stick with three candles a chair and a makeshift bed. And two more doors that had sliding locks from this side as well.

One was locked and even though he didn't hear anything from that door he left it alone and headed for the other door. It was unlocked so he peered into this room. This was an immense round chamber with three more doors positioned left and right and directly across from him, with a stairway going down in the center. While he was diligently checking all the doors (all of which were locked) the rest of the group headed for the stairs. Vex said he could see at least three more levels from here. As kids will do, stuff started being tossed down, spit down and even peed down the opening. KIDS!!!

As Birgun was finishing his search of this floor someone spotted another door in the ceiling but no one could figure a way up and Baga didn't think it a good idea to try and reach it anyway. This brought about a debate about how anyone knew of the way here and what were they supposed to do or what were they all doing there.

In the end it came down to, now that they did make it they could leave. Epher and Birgun weren't ready to go though, now that they made it here they wanted some kind of proof. So off the group went down to the next level.

This level was much like the first but a couple of doors were unlocked. Birgun ends up finding a huge spider in one of the rooms and slams the door. Only to reopen it with some backup. The giant spider turned out to be dead (a burn hole through it's skull). Everyone took a piece as the proof they needed or for just a souvenir. As Birgun listened to another locked door he could make out skittering and foot steps like one of those spiders would make. Then it started talking in some strange language that no one understood. That's when there was a load bang both from above but louder from below.

The sound from below was followed by heavy foot falls. "Run" cried Birgun and up the group ran. Birgun and Baga waited until all were headed up the stairs before following. It was a good thing that Kelyn and Nina had fashioned a hand hold because the group was moving fast when they left the window to reach safety.

Macer waited for Birgun and Baga at the window and allowed them to go on. Birgun stopped and told Macer that waiting for what ever was coming, would be a bad idea. Macer hesitated but then made for the top of the bridge. Bringing up the rear Birgun removed as much of the rope as he could in his hurried state. At the top members of the group were laughing and breathing hard from the climb but they were all there.

So excited to have made it on yet another daring adventure, Arryn and Edwan offered to buy everyone ice-cream at the Sails. While they all enjoyed their treat a man asked where they had gotten the spider parts. Sam said that they had bought them at a shop. The man asked where the shop was and Kelyn said that they could show him the way. When they reached the shop the kids waited outside until the man left and then some went in to sell their parts to the shop owner.

By now Nina and Felu had to be going home for lunch but Nina asked if they could all meet back at the clock tower around 1:30 that afternoon. Everyone agreed and went their separate ways (in at least pairs if not more).

I'll let the journals fill you in on the rest but for now we start next week at the Clock Tower.

And now the Clock Tower.

I don't feel so good about this...

Nothing bad ever happens to kids. They're invincible and have tremendous luck, just ask USEPLANB or should I say Birgun. He rolled the dice like a boss. 17, 18, 19, 20's galore!!! That will all go away when he gets older. Bwa ha ha!!!

Birgun came 'round the house pretty early this morning. He said, Epher had something for the gang to do. When we met up at the golem works Epher said he knew a way into the gecko pillar on the big bridge... That place is supposed to be haunted! A guard tried to stop us but we were too clever for him and he let us go to "play" on top of the bridge. Once he was out of sight we sneaked over to one of the pillar's geckos and jumped down to it. We got into the pillar through a little window that lead into a little room.

I tend to forget that most of my friends can't see too good in the dark, and I started to poke about the room. Found a bag with some fruit and other bits in it and since I had forgotten to grab some breakfast. Once the others got a torch lit, someone exclaimed that I was eating rotten food! I don't know what they're talking about, the fruit was soft and juicy, and had a nice tart bite to it, humans' just don't have good taste. We looked around some more and went through a few rooms, nothing scary happened yet, but Sam kept going on and on about spiders. He was kinda ruining the mood so I stopped listening to the group and poked around letting my imagination go wild. What a fun lair this place would make!

We came to a large circular room with 4 doors on the walls and a stairway in the middle. Huge saw a trapdoor in the ceiling, but we decided to leave it alone. the other doors were locked so I went to look down the stairs and saw 3 more large circular rooms below us. This place is huge! Things stayed pretty calm till we moved down a couple floors.

Huge opened a side door let out a short yelp and slammed the door shut again. After he caught his breath, he simply said "Spider... big spider." Oh great, not him too. Sam has gotten everyone worked up now, at least that's what I thought. Kelyn opened the door again and we all recoiled a little from the size of the massive spider! Luckily it was dead, there was a hole burned in its head... hey that rhymed! All that was left was the outside hard bits and we all took a part as a trophy! Huge checked another door and said he heard movement, and a kind of tapping noise. Kelyn began to unbar the door but Huge stopped him. Then there was this moist raspy voice from the other side speaking some strange language I haven't heard before. Then someone said they heard movement above and below us and we ran as fast as we could to the window we originally came in.

Once we were out, Sam asked if anyone else had seen the goblin by the window just before we left. I hadn't, but there was a bad smell... that could be coming from anyone though! hehe. Nina said she was going to get everyone ice cream because that was scary and it will cheer us up. I don't like ice cream, I tried it once, it's cold and hurts my teeth, hurts my brain too. Like I said, humans don't have very good taste. While we were down by the market looking at our trophies someone came by and asked where we got them. Someone said we got them from a shop down the way and he paid us to take him there. After he left someone wanted to know if they were worth anything. The shopkeeper said he would pay 21 gold for a piece! I thought if he was willing to pay that much to kids, the parts must be worth more and I decided to keep mine. Macer decided he wanted the gold so he sold his part. Nina wanted us to meet back up by the clocktower after lunch and we agreed to meet her there.

Macer and I were walking home when he figured out that he would have to hide his gold or his parents would ask where it came from. He decided to hid it in my bedding because I'm his responsibility his parents don't mess with it. So not only do I get to keep my spider claw but I get all Macer's money to sleep on too! BEST DAY EVER!!!

Once our chores were done we headed back out. Met most of the gang just before getting to underbridge and headed towards the tower. Lugh started talking about his god and the shrine to her in underbridge, oh and the light we saw come from there when we were on the gecko... I forgot about that. Well we decided to stop at the shrine since it was on the way to the tower. We sneaked in the back door and the god's statue was shining bright as day which really hurt my eyes. Lugh was really moved by it and started talking to her, but I went back outside were it was darker. After a minute or so the rest came out. We were getting ready to leave when we saw Felu running down the street by herself, crazy girl doesn't she know about the snatchers? Well she was better after we stopped her then we all went to the tower together. Right now we're standing outside and I'm wondering what it is that Nina wanted us to do here?

Today my friends and me had an adventure. First we went to play near the golemworks. Epher said he knew a way into the gecko. The gecko helps hold up the big bridge. It is supposed to be haunted. The whole gang climbed down outside the gecko. It was a long way down. We climbed in a window. We found some old stuff and some nasty rotten food. Vex ate it! I guess dragons eat anything. Yuck. It was very dark in the gecko, but we found some torches and lit them. And some candles. I kept a candle and a fintandsteel. I found three silver in an old pile of straw. We found lots of locked doors and a stairway down. There were more locked doors down there. It was very dark and spooky even with our lights. One locked door had a giant spider skelington behind it. We all took a piece to show where we had been. Another locked door had a skittering noise behind it. Kelynn was going to open it, but we stopped him. Something in there talked at us. The words were wrong. Then we heard a big door close and big footsteps coming our way. We all ran. Once we got out in the sunshine, we all laughed. Then we went to the bazaar. Edwin and Nina bought us treats. The treats tasted good. After lunch we will have another adventure. This time we will go to the big clock under the brige. Some of the gang traded the spider bits for money. I think they got a lot. I didn't trade mine. I hid mine in my private box at home.

Under the bridge we stopped at a shrine. Lugh said it was to his momma's goddess Dawnflower. Inside it was very old but not dusty. The statue of the goddess glowed bright with magic! It felt nice there. Felu came late to find us by herself. There were too snatchers following her. When they saw all of us they looked mean and went away. Maybe they won't follow us to the clock.

This morning, Macer and Sam came by to collect me for another bright idea. Luckily, I had all my chores done and could slip out for awhile. Epher and the new guys had an adventure. Not sure about these new kids; if it weren't for Nina, I don't think they would be worth my time. We headed for the bridge, on top this time. Epher said there was a way into a piling, just had to get by the guards. Would have been easier if they all didn't know Macer because of his Dad. I just slipped by, much less talking. We climbed down the gecko carvings to a window, easy. Nina and I helped some of the others. Inside was stuff someone left behind, it was real old. Another room had candles and stuff that were handy in the dark. In the middle was a big, round room with more doors and a shaft in the center with stairs that went down forever. Most of the doors are barred or locked so I'll never know what's behind them. Locks really frustrate me. They are small pieces of metal put together by people, why can't I figure them out? I've had much time to think about them without success. Even a kitchen knife would be useful here, but I seem to be lacking one. Get one later; not from home, maybe from Odo's Second Hand Shop. I've never seen a first hand shop. Nina has long, slender hands............ In one room, we found a HUGE spider, probably good it was long dead. We all took parts, I got a big leg claw. There might have been a live one behind another door, but we didn't check. Looked some more and noise came from below. Someone said golem, but I didn't see one. Had to show up for lunch so it was time to leave. Nina and I had rigged some rope to help the climb, but it might have been funny if someone had slipped. They would have had to swim to the dock and explain to their mother how they got all wet. Nina said we should go to the bazaar for treats and she had money. I think she is my favorite person ever, don't know why she isn't part of our group. While eating, someone said our spider parts were worth money. He needed to go to Ramilus' shop, so we led him there(I pick things up there all the time). Turns out the parts are worth TWENTY GOLD, but only from Ramilus. He never stops talking, and Father would surely find out what I've been doing. Then he'll lock me up forever and I'll never get to play again. Lugh did me a huge favor and sold my claw, so now I have grown-up money. Have to hide it in the rafters from siblings. I can buy something nice for Nina, but I have no idea what. Life is really hard. Agreed to meet at the bridge after lunch, under it this time. Aftern all Epher and Bags' talk, only Nina showed up. Best day ever. We started in and Felu showed up late. I like it when she fusses over Vex; his leg thumps like the neighbor's dog getting his belly rubbed. Went to Sarenrae's shrine to look for a light, but it looked abandoned. The back door wasn't locked, and it was nicer inside. Lugh was real quiet and prayed some by the statue. Wasn't as neat as I hoped, but we're going to the Clock Tower next. Can't believe those guys baled on us, they are such children.

It was early morning, I was picking some herbs from the garden for mom. She loves her garden and growing herbs, vegetables and especially spices. While there I overheard a woman talking to another woman, something about the clock tower down in Underbridge. They were talking in hushed tones but sounded excited. For some reason they thought tonight would be the only chance for them to get some item from there. My friends have gone inside before on a bet. But didn't stay long. I wonder what they're after. I hadn't heard my mom calling and jumped when she yelled from the back door. The women were also startled and moved away, still talking in whispers.

Mom asked what I was doing and I said I was looking at all the wonderful spices she had planted. She had a great crop this year. Some I didn't know what they were. We started talking about the spices and herbs and I forgot all about the women.

Later the guys came by the house and I stepped inside to tell mom I'd be back for lunch. She was saying something but I was gone. Mom doesn't like me running around with the neighborhood boys but I love it. They're fun and treat me like a normal kid. Not like mom and her rules.

Felu was with the guys and we were headed to Kelyn's to get him too. I like Kelyn, he has the same problem with is dad that I have with my mom. They don't approve of our independence.

We then went to the Colem Works to meet the rest of the gang. Epher said he knew a way into the Gecko. A column that holds up the giant bridge. It's supposed to be haunted. Sam wasn't sure we should even try but the rest of us were so excited that Sam finally said okay but just to see if we could. We didn't have to go in. After a guard talked to us about being careful we were off. The way was pretty easy for us since we were so small. Only Huge and Bags had any trouble. Kelyn and I helped them down to the carved gecko that lead to the window that would take us inside the column.

Macer and Vex had already jumped in and Macer said something about a rope. Kelyn asked for the rope and he and I made a hand hold of sorts to help the others climb back to the bridge. Kelyn is so thoughtful, I don't think the others realize how he looks after them but I do. He's usually watching from the shadows. I'm right there by him, safe.

We all jumped into the room with the window. Huge had a lit torch and was looking around the room and through a door into another room. We were gathering candles, lighting one to leave here so we could find our way out. There were a lot of locked doors. That frustrated Kelyn to no end. He said all he needed was a kitchen knife and he'd be able to open them but no one had a knife.

This place was very big and dark. Vex was having fun running around in the dark, he can see very good. Huge was checking the doors. There was a debate about leaving but Huge and Epher wanted some kind of proof that they had been here. We moved further down to find the proof they needed. At one point Huge slammed a door and said "SPIDER". Kelyn went to help Huge and they carefully opened the door again. Thinking Huge had seen just a small spider, Lugh pushed Huge into the room and he fell into a giant spider. We all screamed but Huge said the spider was already dead and he wanted a piece of it as his proof. We all took a piece. Kelyn and Huge were checking another door when we all heard a scary voice. Then doors started slamming and we could hear footfalls getting closer.

We ran out the room and up to our escape. We were all giggles and scarred at the same time. Once we were safe and on the bridge again we relaxed. It was time for treats. While we ate a man asked about our spider parts. Kelyn was fast with a response. He knew a shop that sold spider parts and we lead the man to it. We waited outside the shop until the man was gone. Some of the guys sold their parts. I did too, the leg creeped me out. I was much happier with the gold. It was then that I remembered the women talking about the clock tower but I had to go home for lunch. I asked if we could go to the clock tower after lunch and everyone agreed.

After we had lunch we meet back up but some didn't show. First we went to an old temple dedicated to Sarenrae abandoned long ago. Lugh wanted to see something and I guess he saw what he needed because he was very different after, calm. Now it's time to see what we can find in the old clock tower. I wonder what could be there that the women were so interested in. Funny, the door to the tower is ajar.........

Birgun the Huge
So today I woke up early and did all my chores as I knew that Sam was coming by. He had heard that Epher had some grand adventure planned for the day. Little did I know what he was going to suggest. So grabbing my wooden sword I ran out the door after hugging mom goodbye and promising I would be back around midday to have my lunch and do some more chores.

Sam and I met Epher and 'Bags' down by the Golem workshop, and Epher wouldn't say where he was planning for us to go until the rest of the gang showed up. It took a while but everyone showed up except Atz and Oona. Guess they were grounded or had to many things to do. That's when Epher said his plan was to check out one of the large stone towers holding up the big bridge in town. More specifically the haunted one known as the gecko, whatever that is.

My eyes shot wide at that suggestion. I even saw a small smirk from Bags at my fear of going there. Even Sam didn't think going there was a smart idea. Of course it didn't help when Sam said he had heard of giant spiders things that were rumored to be in the upper parts of the bridge. But as it tends to happen, you get enough of us together and we throw caution to the wind. So we made our way to the top of the bridge.

Once we reached the top we were stopped by one of the guards who questioned why were there and it turns out he knew Macer. He let us go and gave us the "look" that adults do right after telling us to stay out of trouble. With this group, I'm always in trouble, we just never get caught.

Moving over to the edge of the bridge the water below was really, really far away. The boats and ships in the harbor looked really small. Finding a rock I dropped it off the side and quickly lost sight of it before it ever reached the water. Sure would be cool to fly. That's when I noticed that the other had found a way in. Epher had been talking with Bags and then pointed to where we needed to go and within a few moments Kelyn and Nina had found a way down to a small window that led inside.

Looking over the edge there was a small ledge that led down to a many sided window. Both Kelyn and Nina found a statue inside that they could crawl down once inside. By the time I had gotten there to go down, they had found some rope and tied it off outside on the ledge so we could climb out. Whatever this gecko is, it looks like a gigantic lizard. I can only hope the statue isn't as big as the real thing. Something that big would eat Vex.

The rest of the gang had found a backpack inside that looked really old and that's where they had found the rope. There was also some torches which was good since it was pretty dark inside the room. Finding some flint and steel I tried to light the torches but no amount of rubbing them together would light the torches. In a moment of frustration I slammed them together and got a big ole spark. Once I figured out how it worked I was able to light the torches so we could see. Unfortunately, I finally got to see what was in the the bag they had also found. Inside was some rotten food and Vex was eating it all up. It almost made me vomit. I bet he is going to fart really bad later. Too bad for Macer.

Using one of the torches I made my way to the only door in the room and found that it led into someones house. Well, there was a bed, table and chair. The table had some candles on it so we lit one just to have some more light. Sam and Keyln grabbed the other two candles and we looked about the room. There was only one other door in this room and it led into a huge circular room with a really high ceiling. There was other doors in here as well and stairs leading down. There was even a trapdoor high up in the ceiling but I had no idea of how to get up there. Thats when I again noticed Bags and Epher talking. Epher seemed to be taking directions from Bags. Epher had noticed the trapdoor as well and when he looked to Bags he shook his head.

So I began to wonder if Bags was running the show instead of Epher. So I asked Bags what in the nine hells was going on. He looked surprised at my forceful question. So I let the green skin know that if he was not on the up and up I was going to punch him in the nose. He seemed to shrink at that threat. It was then that I heard some of the other laughing as they tried to spit down the stairs shaft and suck it back up. So I had to show them all up. Lugh was laughing so hard he almost peed his pants.

After we all had a good laugh we checked the other doors and found them all to be locked. The doors all had a locking bar on the inside, so whoever closed them are still in there. I hope they're dead by now. We moved down the stairs until we got to the next floor and found that the room was shaped just like the floor above. The first two doors we checked were locked, the next one though was unlocked and looked to be set up like the room upstairs except there was food in this one and still good. Couple of the guys started eating some of the hard bread they found but I decided against it. This room had a couple of doors in them with the slide bars so I opened one up and saw the biggest damn spider I had ever seen! With a yell and an immediate apology to my absent mother for cursing, I slammed the door shut and did everything I could to hold it closed before the inevitable rush of the creature bull rushing the door open and sending me flying across the room.

The others looked at me in alarm and with questioning eyes, but I still stood there frozen in terror at what I had just seen. It was about then that I realized that the creature hadn't tried to slam open the door and make its escape. So when the others gathered up and asked what was going on I told them, "big damn spider." Again I apologized to my absent mother for cursing and Sam said, "See! I told you guys there was spiders here, they're called skeezix or something." We stood there as a group, me holding back a non-existent monster from trying to get out and the others wanting to see. Once again, throwing caution to the wind, I reopened the door, but slowly and with my torch ready to bash it in.

Sure enough, it was a really big looking spider but it didn't look like the ones that crawl around the garden and occasionally get in the house. This one was just a foot or so shorter than me but easily three times my weight. And it didn't have a normal looking spider head, but something . . . more intelligent looking. Thankfully it was dead. I could tell that easily enough because of the large burned hole in its forehead. We heard a couple of ew's from the girls but the curiosity of it drew them in, the rest of us moved in to poke and prod it. The corpse was old and dried out. Mostly crumbling to dust where we touched. The chitinous parts though were still good so I snapped a long tooth off from its mouth. Must have been almost a foot long. Now I had proof that I had been in the gecko, and once I had done that the others did the same, each grabbing some piece of the dead skeezix to claim as a prize.

Moving back out into the other room we wondered aloud if we should keep going or leave and we thought to look in a few more rooms first. At the next door though I heard something as Kelyn was reaching up to the locking bar. It sounded like a heavy skitter. I reached up to stop him and said, "Don't. I think there is one of those skeezix alive in there." That's when whatever it was on the other side of the door spoke some weird language. Parts of it sounded familiar, parts of it sounded Varisian, but in the end it sounded . . . wrong. So we stepped away from the door.

Suddenly we heard a very heavy slam of a door from down below. Followed closely behind hit was the footsteps of something big. I remember seeing the golem parades and the heavy footfalls of the largest metal golems sounded just like what I was hearing, and the footsteps were getting closer. I also faintly heard the slamming of a door from up above us as well. "Run!" I screamed at the others and made my way to the stairs up. Turning I tried to get them to go past before heading up and thankfully none of them refused and we all ran as fast as we could back upstairs to the room with the statue.

Being one of the tallest kids I helped the others as they started the climb up and out. The statue was four feet above the floor and thankfully the others had secured the rope for us to get out with. Once we were all out I saw that Macer was staying on the statue, straining to see what was coming. "Its not a smart idea to wait Macer, you need to run!" So he did, again. As I made it out I grabbed up the rope and pulled it up in case the thing following us up the stairs got the idea of using the rope to reach us. With that done, I collapsed on the bridge along with everyone else. My hands were shaking something fierce but then it stopped and we all began laughing at what had happened. We were heroes! We went into the haunted piling and lived.

From there we went down to the markets for some flavored frozen cream created by some AWESOME wizard I assume. We laughed and talked about who was the most scared, who ran the fastest and what we all thought the creature was. My copper is still on a golem. One of those big metal ones. I also heard the guys talking about having seen a goblin running out just before the first of us made it to the window. I don't really know anything about that as I didn't see it, but who knows, there are rumors of them down in Underbridge as well.

As we talked a man saw us all comparing our spider parts and asked where we got them from just as I was telling the others that I bet a wizard would pay a hundred gold for my skeezix fang for some nasty spell. Kelyn immediately said that we had bought them from a store and for a couple of silver he would lead the man there. He agreed so we all went to this odd shop that Kelyn says his parents go to all the time, of course he wouldn't go inside. Even after we found out that the shop keeper would pay us more than twenty gold for each piece we had. A lot of us sold their parts, and I admit I thought about it for a while but I was rather proud that I had found it and wanted to keep the fang to remind me of the adventure. Who knows maybe I'll even carve some Ulfen decorations in it.

By then it was late and I was going to have to run all the way home for lunch. We decided to head to the big bell tower that afternoon. Nina wanted to check it out and that meant that Kelyn was in. Don't know why he is so interested in her, she has coodees. All girls do. Well . . . maybe not Nina and Felu since they are pretty cool and all but still . . . ew.

After finishing my chores I ran back down intending to meet them at the tower when I found most of them waiting by the bottom of the ramp from the upper part of Magnimar. Just as we started heading out we heard Oona yelling for us to "wait up!" She arrived late and ran up to us. We could see some guys who were following her probably to snatch her but they left when they saw all of us. Epher and Bags didn't make come but that's probably because they are scared. They bet I wouldn't run into the tower the last time and I called them on it. Easiest two copper I have ever made. Although I was scared, I just didn't let them know I was.

Along the way Lugh asked if we could stop off at an old abandoned temple. He said his mom worshiped this god and she is from the far south, past the great sea. He told us about how the original priests had been killed and the temple sat empty, but there was this light that always shined out of the roof. Sounded pretty cool to me so we went. Inside it looked like someone was keeping the place cleaned up. Well, as best they could, it was Underbridge after all. We didn't find anything special although there was a really bright light shining from the altar. Lugh said something softly and left a few coins in offering. My family worships Desna and although I have gone to temple with them a few times I wasn't a very good worshiper. I didn't leave any money for this Sarenhay person, but I don't think the god minded us being there.

We left and eventually made our way to the tower. Nina was positively giddy with excitement. This has been the best day ever.

Macer Dorn

Our first adventure was really fun, and really scary!

We met the other kids down by Underbridge and then we all went up to the top of the broken span that looks out over the sea. It was here that I found out that Epher knew a way into one of the pilings and thought it would be fun to go explore it with the group.

About the same time we started to make our way toward the "gecko" carving that led to an entrance into one of the pilings under the bridge, a city guard who knew my dad saw us. He warned us about not playing too close to the edge and even called me by name. I sure hope he doesn't tell dad that I was playing up there!

After the guard left we climbed down the narrow ledge and went up to the opening that led inside. I was first, so I looked down to make sure there was a floor below me, and then hopped over the edge. Vex followed me in and then the others dropped down one-by-one.

I found an old backpack and a bag full of rotten food. While I started dumping out the contents of the backpack, Vex started eating the food. I guess dragons will eat anything because it smelled pretty bad to me!

Birgun and Baga both lit torches that had been in the backpack and started moving forward. I gave the rope and candles from the bag to the other kids and they used the rope to make it easier for us to climb out in case we had to leave in a hurry. (Good thing!)

We found hallways and a big round room with lots of doors (mostly locked) and a stairway leading down to the lower levels.

Sam kept talking about giant spiders and that made us all jumpy! It was even worse when Birgun looked inside a door and then slammed it shut and yelled "SPIDER!"

Some of the kids wanted to see it so they pushed the door open just a bit... It turned out that there really was a spider, but it was dead. WHEW! It was really old and just a bunch of dried spider parts now. We all grabbed some pieces of it as souvenirs and then went back to exploring.

The lower level was really dark and spooky. We hadn't gone far when we heard a big crash like a door slamming, and then some heavy footsteps approaching. Kids were running everywhere, like a bunch of cockroaches when you turn on the light.

We all ran back up the stairs and toward the entrance hallway. Sam was still babbling about voices and spiders, and Birgun said something about golems.

It didn't matter to me, I had heard enough!

The mob clambered out the window and back onto the ledge using the ropes that Kelyn and Nina had tied earlier. Birgun and Baga were the last ones out, and I stopped to try and see whatever it was that was coming before making my escape.

Birgun saw me and said "Run, Macer!" and so I did.

We were the last ones back up onto the bridge and the others were already there. We were all panting and out of breath, and then we all started nervous giggling that spread until we were all bent over and laughing. We had made it! what a story we had to tell to Atz and our other friends.

We decided to go get some ice cream back in our neighborhood. While we were eating it a man asked us about the spider parts that some of us were carrying. Somebody told him we got them at a store and we sent him that way.

After he left, a few of us went into the store and showed the owner the spider parts. He offered us real gold for the parts. I knew I didn't want the crumbling old parts, so I sold mine and he gave me 21 gold pieces!

I knew I would have to hide them somewhere, so I told Vex I would put them under his bedding and it could be his dragon hoard. He liked the idea, so we went home and I hid the coins there.

The other kids had told us they wanted to go to the clock tower next, so we got together after lunch and made our way past some old ruined shrine that Lugh wanted to see. There was a glowy statue or something inside that looked pretty neat.

After Lugh was satisfied, we went on to the clock tower to meet the others.
