Alpha 9 Game Stability: How has it been for you?

Its been the most stable one to date, for me. I've covered massive swaths of the map without even thinking about needing to relog. Basically, I haven't had an issue since the start of this Alpha.

How have others' experiences been?

Pretty similar.

I see dark flickering in some building textures, but I haven't had the indigo character bug.

I ran from Thornkeep to Tavernhold, passing through more than eight hexes (the source of a bug in an older Alpha version), with no problems.

I crashed to the desktop once in Alpha 9, but I was able to log back in immediately.

Edit: I moved out of Thornkeep for Alpha 9, so I can't comment on desynch issues there. Out in Tavernhold and Alderwag, desynch doesn't seem to be much of a problem.

I have lag and desync issues about once or twice an hour, but that's a huge improvement over earlier versions. Pretty much the smoothest playing Alpha I've been in (granted, its the *only* Alpha I've been in...), but it plays better than a fair few Beta's I've been in.

Keep up the good work!

TK still sux in places at busy times but otherwise it is much more stable.

I am not sure if its a programming change or coincidence but i now get lag in combat rather than a total desynch which, while still annoying, is much more acceptable.

On the down side running two alts at once on the "simple" settings on my laptop (8GB Win 8 I5 nVidia 720m) will eventually overheat afer 30 minutes or so and shut the laptop down which in my case brings on the famous Win8 infinite repair loop on startup bug (needing a power down and battery removal to get out of).

I had relatively few problems with stability during 8, but is is more stable now. Loading is noticeably faster when logging in and at hex boundaries. I have not been able to get character textures to display again though, despite trying a variety of things.

I've been up in the Ozem's Vigil area, so just a couple of hexes a night, but totally stable for me at Beautiful settings on my gaming rig.

Crashing pretty much every time I enter a new settlement. Otherwise pretty stable.

I've found it better. Haven't had a chance to play a lot, but in that time no desyncs.

In Alpha 8 having 2 instances of the client open to do a trade between characters was painful. I've only done it once in Alpha 9 but it was a lot smoother.

So I am reading that it is better than before but still has quirks?

Is it stable enough that yall would be comfortable with Ryan releasing the flood gates on the stress test?

For single items its still easier to pick a quiet time at the AH, offer it for sale and log the other character in and buy it.

With the hoops you have to jump through to see what items are on offer you would be incredibly unlucky if someone bought it before you logged the 2nd char back in.

I have a large desk fan that I keep blowing on my laptop whenever I am running a game. I also keep the back end of the laptop propped up to facilitate air flow. I suspect the heat coming off of my laptop is the main reason my room is the warmest in the house at night!

If you consistently see a crash when you enter a town you almost certainly have an issue with the game taking too much system memory or a driver problem with your video card. That is the point where the system has to transfer a large amount of texture data from the hard drive to the GPU.

I suspect that if you open the task manager and set it to monitor memory use you'll see it jump as you approach the hex with the town and at some point in that jump the system will crash.

The stability is very much improved! I didn't realize until last night: I have not crashed to desktop one time since 9 came out. Crossing hex boundaries is much better. I have been all over the north and alot of the midlands.

There are fewer nodes in trees, or at least it seems so. A few floating bridges and buildings, but that is just polish.

Loading times seem quicker and smoother. I had the bad toon graphics thing but one app of the change Graphics Quality fixed it just fine.

All in all, I see progress here.

Edit: I forgot that I had some issues with my mouse on day one of alpha 9. Since I replaced it, nothing bad now. I believe it was the mouse, not the client.

Crossing hex boundaries is much more smooth for me, too.

Yeah, crossing hexes is not a problem anymore. It's the towns and I can avoid it if I walk into town instead of running.

I have desynch'ed a few time in TK but no where else. Went to every settlement and did encounter a few jittery/laggy moments in some of the towns but figure that is just my older (2011) graphics card with only 1Gb memory having issues. I've been deliberately running along hex boundaries and have noticed an occasional glitch but nothing like I experienced prior to the patch. Finally, running two clients is much slower for me than Alpha 7, but slightly better than Alpha 8.
