Is there golf in Golarion?

Advice

Silver Crusade

So I had an idea to make a character with the Rough and Ready trait that had Profession (golfer) and used golf clubs as improvised melee weapons and golf balls (sling bullets?) as improvised ranged weapons. But for the combo to work, there has to be golf in Golarion.

So is there?

Don't see a reason why it couldn't and it makes for a fun idea. Reminds me of this guy from The Raid 2.

Sovereign Court

Reading the various sports and games in Golarion, I don't see it listed but well...there is always room for extras.

If it's for PFS, expect table variation.

Of course there is! It was invented when a Halfling used a club and knocked a Goblin-king's head into a hole.

If it does, expect the king to be pissed at the sudden decrease in the number of competent longbowmen.

I heard there was a halfling fighter who once decapitated a goblin and it's head fell into a gopher hole.

I agree that improvised weapons are the way to go. I don't think you will have any problems saying your character is a "golfer". Most GMs, even in pfs, will appreciate the creativity as long as you don't abuse the rules too much to do what you want to do.

Improvised weapons area great way to do crazy things that went thought of by the hand designers.

Sounds like a great idea. Good luck!

So how much damage would a golf club do as an improvised weapon? I could have one-handed ones (wedges) and two-handed ones (driver/woods). I would imagine a one-handed club is just 1d6, but I'm not sure for the two-handed one.

Also, how much damage would a thrown golf ball (sling bullet) do?

So finally I'll be able to have a character that has a literal "golf bag" of weapons.

I'm now thinking about how bad it would hurt to get hit in the head with an adamantine pitching wedge.

Scarab Sages

Any one of them would be an improvised club, doing 1d6. If you two hand it you would get 1.5 str damage, as normal.

Silver Crusade

Oh come on, a wood is like a foot longer than a wedge (hyperbol)!!! It's gotta be a two-handed weapon!!!

Assuming not PFS ... do you want there to be golf? Then there's golf.

Silver Crusade

Nope, it's for PFS. I don't foresee myself being invovled in any home games any time soon, other than the one I'm already in.

Also, how would special materials be handled? I would think I could have golf clubs made of cold iron and adamantine.

Also just realized Rough and Ready is a cheap way to get around paying 300g for a masterwork weapon, since a masterwork tool costs 50g. So how much would an adamantine golf club cost me?

And bah, I'm going to need to somehow get an arcane spell or SLA so I can take Arcane Strike to make them count as magic.

Be a Bard and grab a bagpipe while you are at it. As for special materials, same price as for a weapon I'd say.

Golf certainly fits some of the time periods represented in the Golarion setting. I'm not sure if there's "officially" golf in Golarion though.

This work out better in a home game with a DM who can be convinced that you should be allowed to enchant your golf clubs. You could have a bag full of them with one made of each special material and various enchantments. For PFS I recall that at higher levels a Monk of the Empty Hand can enchant improvised weapons.

Silver Crusade

I was looking at a dwarf fighter with a single level dip into empyreal sorcerer at level 2 to allow to me to take Arcane Strike and give me a few castings of magic weapon each day.

I was planning on having a cold iron wedge and an adamantine driver, and I was going to use cold iron sling bullets as golf balls.

Then I could buy some ghost salts and put it on some of the cold iron bullets to have a weapon ready for use in case of incorporeals.

For ability scores, I'm thinking:

Str: 18
Dex: 14
Con: 14 (12 +2 racial)
Int: 10
Wis: 12 (10 +2 racial)
Cha: 5 (7 -2 racial)

So basically picture John Daly as a dwarf.

Don't forget to have an alchemical silver putter as well. If anyone should have a golf bag of weapons, it's a golfer.

And this kind of shenanigan is why such things are frowned on. You want golf clubs for flavor ? fine and dandy. You want golf clubs because you want to cheat the cost of masterwork weapons ? Not so fine.

Silver Crusade

I didn't create the concept to cheat the cost of masterwork weapons, it's just a byproduct.

Heck, I'm going to be buying an adamantine, a cold iron, and an alchemical silver one.

The more I think about this, the less likely it is to be legal for PFS at all. How would I even cost any of these things? Sure, a masterwork golf club as a profession tool is 50g, and a cold iron one would be twice that, but how do pricean adamantine one? It's not a weapon or armor. I remember a thread about a chef with Rough and Ready and buying an adamantine waffle iron. I'll have to look that up.

Given that you fully expect to use them as weapons, you should probably just go ahead and pay for them as clubs, using actual weapon costs.

If you still need Rough and Ready to treat them as improvised, nothing stops you from using a regular weapon as an improvised weapon.

Silver Crusade

See, but that makes it even more difficult for PFS because nowhere on any weapon table is "golf club" listed as a weapon. So it's not legal for me to purchase one. Masterwork tool (choose profession) is legal for me to purchase.
