Avoid being a sub par healer and play a proactive cleric.

Evangelist cleric specializing in summoning with the heroism domain.

Dump channel energy for varient channel.

As for healing grab a wand of cure light wounds.

Now if your set on playing just a healer I would ho Oradin.

He didn't ask how to be a good healer, he asked how to be a good Cleric healer.

Liberty's Edge

Restoration Subdomain of Healing is a worthy look, if you can get it. Free empowered healing on every Cure spell is a great start, and the domain grants a few spells early (Remove Disease). Plus, the touch removes a number of conditions that can really hamper you early on. With a lesser metamagic reach rod you can hit folks with your cures at a distance.

Unless you plan to FOCUS your build on Channeling, I'd avoid taking too many channeling feats. Channeling should be done out of combat- if you're engaged in your roll as a support character, you should be able to prioritize your healing and value positioning.

Then, remember that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure- and try to be pro-active with buffs.

Agreed that prevention is the best cure. A simple Bless at the start of a big battle, Divine Shield on someone taking a lot of hits, or a Doom on the enemy doing most of the hitting can save you more in healing than attempting to heal during battle.

Most healing should be done after battle via wand of CLW. It is the cheapest curative available.

That said, Selective Channel can really help if your group is getting pounded. You will not be able to keep up with the damage being done, but you may be able to extend the battle long enough that everyone stays up until the end. Try to reserve some for emergencies.

Healing Skill can help save you some when it comes to disease and poison. Still want to carry antitoxin and antiplague. I know the skill points for a cleric are precious, but it can be worthwhile.

Me love Hangover Cleric build but with Envy harm variant.

Reach spell is very useful, especially since you can apply it like a sorceror (spontaneously as a full-round action) when you convert a prepared spell into a cure spell.

Silver Crusade

Here are a few things that improve Cleric healing ability: Reach spell feat; Healing (Sub)domain, Quick Channel.

Here are a few things that reduce the need for healing, which is at least as good as actual healing: Battlefield control (e.g. your Summon Monster spells), your buffs that improve your allies, your dropping foes so they stop inflicting damage.

Usually some combination of the two is most effective. It's possible to combine actions. E.g. In one round you might Quick Channel positive energy as a Move action to harm undead (or, alternately, to heal the living), cast a spell for your Standard Action, 5' step, then get an AoO during enemy movement as a result of your longspear & clever tactical positioning. In one round you were able to attack, channel energy, and cast a spell.

Figure out what you want to do, and pick some feats to make you better at it.

For example, if you plan to use the Shield Other spell much then consider getting the Toughness feat in addition to high CON.

For another example, let's say you want to be a capable healer and also whack things with a big stick. This is perfectly possible. This approach performs best if you enjoy tactical combat and are willing to work at setting up AoOs. In this case you probably want the feats Power Attack and, possibly, Combat Reflexes for your healer cleric. It all depends.

which variant channeling?

Selective channeling, extra channeling are two musts for me.

There are quite a few reasonable options. The point is that Evangelist clerics have weak channels anyway, so they don't lose as much from choosing a variant channel.

Some Offensive Variant Channels (generally requires big resource investment): Rulership, Ale/Wine, Madness, Envy

Some Defensive Variant Channels (requires no investment): Bravery (save your whole party from Fear!), Knowledge, Luck, Poison, others

Keep in mind that Variant Channeling was not thoroughly play-tested, and there are rules issues that can come up. Also, some of the options suck. Some are situationally very good.
