Creating an NPC monster - ability score modifiers?

Homebrew and House Rules

Hello Everyone!

So I'm trying to create a unique monster for my Kingmaker game -specifically Wilendithas the Eternal Hag, the Green Hag Lich Cleric of Gyronna described in Shadows of Gallowspire.

I'd like to give her more powerful stats as a baseline, rather than just taking a bog-standard Green Hag and applying templates and class levels. Is there a way to figure out a monsters racial ability scores?

Also, does the Caster Level of spell-like abilities improve with Class levels, or is it just the racial hit dice?

Hi.

Unfortunately, you've accidentally wandered into the Card Game forum, while you are probably looking for for the RPG forum. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to move your post. But in the meantime, why not try the card game? We have monsters too, though we don't have Kingmaker (yet).

Whoops! You're quite right. I simply saw Rules Questions and Gameplay...

Seeing as this topic has been moved I'll answer.
Subtract 10 from there ability score and round down any odd number to an even one.

Gotchya. So you assume that all of the base ability scores were 10 or 11?

Also, what about the ability score increases from Hit Dice?

Sovereign Court

heh you can use a standard green hag, how much stats do you actually need?

Str 19, Dex 12, Con 12, Int 15, Wis 13, Cha 14

So that's a standard green hag...remember when you add class levels to a monster it gets stat bonuses, so a witch green hag:

Str 21, Dex 14, Con 10, Int 19, Wis 13, Cha 18

Now making it a Lich:

Str 21 Dex 14 Con -- Int 21 Wis 15 Cha 20

That's without any equipment, with a headband of intellect +6:

Str 21 Dex 14 Con -- Int 27 Wis 15 Cha 20

Not enough? Add the advanced creature template for +1 cr:

Str 25 Dex 18 Con -- Int 31 Wis 19 Cha 24

-----can also make it mythic if you want more stats etc...

My question really is...how much stats do you really need?

Well I don't think we need to go quite as far as mythic... but a Green Hag Lich Cleric of Gyronna 15 should be pretty badass.

I think I've got enough information to do this. Thanks all!

The ability bonuses for monster advancement by class are +4, +4, +2,+2, +0, -2. Use it as a template over the Green Hag base statistics, then add the lich template and class levels. This is cruel, I must confess.

When building monsters, determining their ability scores is usually the last thing you do. See the monster creation guide.
