Investigator: Empiricist

Advice

I really dig this class and the archetype, as you only have to rely on Int instead of Wis for a bunch of rolls, including the ever-pervasive Perception.

My question is, for this newest campaign I wanted to play this class, but cannot decide on a race, so what would you guys recommend?

I like the idea of a mysterious, diminutive wearing a porcelain mask and carrying a cane-sword (sort of like Mr Quimper from the comics the Invisibles), and being a snarky, cold, and ever-rational near-Mentat-like savant.

I am leaning toward Tiefling or Ratfolk, as they can both be masked and hidden as to the real nature of their race.

So bottom line, how do you guys feel about this archetype, and/or the choice of Tiefling or Ratfolk as the race?

I think questions like this come down to min/max or roleplay. Anyone can wear a mask to conceal their race. If you're concerned about capitalizing on abilities and bonuses, then we can mince one race versus another.

I'm not one to Min-Max, but on the flipside I have totally floundered characters by not paying enough attention to stats... I guess I should have phrased the question as such: If you were GM'ing a Carrion Crown campaign, which race would you like to see in this role?

The question is the same. Any race can serve in the role and work with the class. I would just avoid those that take a hit to intelligence. When I read the class I actually thought humans would fit the class exceedingly well.

Wayang or Ratfolk. There is almost no loss to damage with your weapon selection, and lots of benefits to being small for the investigator. Both have the ever elusive darkvision as well, and some nice skill bumps.

Plus Tieflings are overplayed.

I kind of agree about tieflings...ratfolk it is!
