Tiefling no longer legal?

Scarab Sages

Hey everyone,

A while back I created a Tiefling PFS Character and ive played with him once so far. Yesterday i got on Hero Lab after updating it and i found that Tieflings were illegal in PFS(according to it.) Is this correct, and if it is, does that mean this character is void?

As I understand it, PFS changed it so that all new Tiefling/Aasmiar characters require you to have a boon, but all old character made before the change are fine. You should be good if you used the guy before.

Scarab Sages

Hm, alright well see.

Dark Archive

If anyone missed the non boon required tiefling time. I have such a boon, one of the first when they were introduced to the campaign up for trade. I would like a tien weapon training boon in exchange.

You should download and read the Season Six Guideline to Pathfinder Society Play. There's quite of bit of change in the air, and you should get abreast of it.

As long as the character had a chronicle, that is dated before August 14th of this year, granting 1xp to your character the character is still legal. It is just no longer legal to make a new Tiefling(or Aasimar) without a boon. Like LazarX mentioned you should download the latest guide and read up on all the changes.

Also this question should have been posted in the PFS General Discussion forums.

R2D2TS is correct. This is how I worked in a Tiefling Alchemist build. He was just a concept for a while, but once the call came down of the change, I took advantage of running him through a Scenario before the deadline so he could be grandfathered in and stay legal.

Slight necro.

If you have a non-Aasimar, non-Tiefling character with experience prior to the cutoff and it is eligible for a level 1 retrain, is it possible to retrain into either of those races without a boon?

No, you would have had done it and played the character at least prior to the start of Season 6.

Hero Lab should have an internal check with your Journal. If you have a play date of a scenario before the cutoff it shouldnt give you that alert. Also, they could just have a "grandfathered" box you could check to get rid of it. Ultimately, it doesnt matter what Hero Lab says. As long as you have a chronicle that is for that character and played before the cutoff date then you are good to go.

You are missing the important part, that chronicle received prior to the cut off part must have been as playing a Tiefling, which is not what the poster describes.

In the initial post, he stated "A while back I created a Tiefling PFS Character and ive played with him once so far." I assume from the "a while back" part that he played the guy as a tiefling before the cutoff. I read a while back as more than a couple months which would clearly put him prior to the cutoff date.

Duncan is still addressing the OP, Dragnmoon is addressing the thread necro...

Thanks Earl. My right hand wasnt communicating with my left hand. I hate it when that happens.

You can, if you so desire, get ShadowChemosh's Adjustments add-on for HL. If it is enabled, it adds a few new items to the adjustments options, including some that are PFS specific, for things like Race boons, Feat boons, etc.

With the appropriate one enabled, you stop getting the validation error. Just make sure you only apply the adjustments when you are entitled to. ;)

And that file is available from the same site as the Community Bestiary/Player Pack add-ons. (Remember not to install the Player Pack if you have installed the Bestiary, and vice versa, without uninstalling the other, as the Bestiary includes all the material in teh Player Pack.) These add-ons add various material from modules, scenarios, etc. for easy inclusion in HL, when appropriate.

Thanks Kinevon for the excellent heads-up. I'll check out the add-on. Do you know if the add-on works with the iPad version?

I'm still wondering about the reverse of that...

Taking a Tiefling PC with a chronicle received prior to the cut off date, and using the 1st level re-build rules to re-write it as a Kitsumi - (or any other race that would not have been legal when the first chronicle was earned).

Would that be legal?

if so, could you then change him back for his 3rd Chronicle (3rd XP)?

Scarab Sages

If at any point, you decide to change his race before level two, you would be unable to make it a tiefling again. There was a post about this very topic when news of the race changes came out. I'm at work or I'd do the research to link the post.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

When you retrain, you may retrain to any currently legal race.

This.

In your example nosig, the tiefling could retrain and stay a teifling, as long as he's under 2nd level. As soon as he retrains and becomes something other than that tiefling, and is played (this seems to be the locking "factor"), then he would not be able to go back to be a tiefling again without a boon, but could become any currently legal race.

yeah, that's what I figured (and sort of why I asked) but it still bothers me. It feels wrong that we can take XP earned before the date, and give it to a PC that is a race/class/whatever that was not legal when it was earned... But I think I understand it. (And have even used it, sort of. I have a PC (my #-15) who played as a Tiefling Alchemist before the date, then used the 1st level rebuild rules to become a Tiefling Investigator (race from before the date, class after...).)

Thanks guys

It does, but be careful, if you use any of the rest of it, Shadow had to do some fiddling with it, because some of the material that works on Windows won't work on iPad unless you have HL licensed for Mythic content.

Best thing to do is check the HL forums for Shadow's material.
